Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

All this irrational anti-Snake fanboy salt is hilarious. I didn't even care very much one way or the other if he came back for Smash 4, but now I hope he does just to piss off all the anti-Snake whiners and quiet all the braying. My god, you people.

Can't the people who really want him in go play MGS3 in a corner instead or something though

I agree with I'm Finished... y'all "LOL it's cool to see Snake fightin Mario" people are just two steps away from the Goku Miiverse plebites. I'll none of it. Snake cut 2k14.

Some more appropriate newcomers;

I said it before, but Rayman makes perfect sense to be in Smash.

From Ubisoft's relationship with Nintendo (appears to be the only third party that still love the WiiU =P) to the fact that Rayman is keeping the 2D platformer torch alive with the Legends/Origins games ....to the fact that he is a character that goes way back in the 16 bit games and STILL is around.

... oh, you haven't heard... Rayman would be okay, he's just not nearly iconic enough. I wouldn't mind Rayman though.

Yeah they should just play that ever popular party fighting game, MGS3

I of course joke :) I've said multiple times, it wouldn't irk me if I was in... I just don't personally think he really belongs. From everything e.g. Sakurai saying something to the effect of "Snake's usual arsenal doesn't really fit in a game like Smash..." to MGS4's song being used in the stage, it just seems odd on a level that Sonic and Megaman really aren't. I won't get mad and rant if he gets reconfirmed, I'll just be baffled as Ground Zeroes gets released for other major platforms and Nintendo advertises it for free.

Whatever though, if I can troll my brothers with mortars and homing missiles again I don't really mind.

That's not even the same Snake, which kind of makes me feel like you're not that informed about the whole situation. Unless you were trying to be ironic and are actually pro-Snake, then my bad.

I'm well aware there's about 15 different versions of the same guy who have accelerated ages and different code names and aliases and motivations and allegiances and tactics.

With some rumors out there of a global release for this game, do you guys think it's likely?

The pokemon global release at least shows Nintendo is moving towards having their major hitters to impact the market at the same time. There is also the fact that Sakurai seems to have an issue with spoilers, so a global release would work against that. Thoughts?

The only way a Snake cut would be fine would be if his moveset was placed on someone else. Because really, why would you take out that moveset?

LOL Simon Belmont. Konami must have a rep lul. *laughing immorally*

So the other night I had this dream where Yoshi was announced, but he was downgraded to an assist trophy, and he would run around the stage attempting to eat the other players and trap them in eggs. Thought I'd share.

I dont really care much for bajo and kazooie but I always was sad they never got their chance to appear smash bros, if rare was still apart of nintendo there would sitll be so many characters to add to the smash roster, ugh whose smart idea was to separate from nintendo

Stamper Bros. And no great loss really, I always found Rare character design a little... samey.

To be fair, what the Pokemon company does with Pokemon and what Sakurai does with Smash are probably the furthest you can get with what "Nintendo" does as a whole. I mean, you couldn't pick two Nintendo dev teams that have more autonomy other than like... Monolith Soft, maybe.

In other words, don't read too much into Pokemon's global release as some sort of new standard.

A lack of global release, or near global would be pretty pathetic. The excuse last time was, what, trophy text? If Pokemon can be out, there's no excuse. I'm just saying this of course because Europe got utterly and royally boned last time. I mean wow, so much salt personally for that fiasco still.

Probably was a smart idea, their output kinda dropped after the N64.

I wager that Nintendo's short sightedness on Rare has cost them more than 200 million dollars. If Nintendo would have bought the studio outright I am sure they could have whipped them back into shape.

Not irrelevant to Nintendo's history. There may be some franchises that aren't currently active, but they all represent Nintendo's robust portfolio as a developer, and console manufacturer. Metal Gear represents Nintendo's poor relations with third parties. The series first came to Nintendo platforms in the form of a downgraded NES port, and continued with handheld spin-offs, and came back with a gen late port that Nintendo had to pay for. Metal Gear is a good example of Nintendo struggling to get third party content. So excuse me if I don't think that fits in well with Smash.

i like the cut of your jib!

They should do that. But the important thing is that he's gone.

We would have had Donkey Kong Racing (Cutesy Jungle GTA3), and a couple new Banjo, Perfect Dark and possibly Killer Instinct games. I'd wager Smash wouldn't be so hard on finding new characters if Nintendo bought Rare. This list alone I'd be willing to bet would have already been in Smash if Rare had stayed.

-Banjo (possibly with or without Kazooie, depends on how they wanted to portray the characters)
-Mumbo
-Joanna Dark
-A Killer Instinct character
-Definitely more DK reps. K. Rool probably wouldn't be as big of a long shot as he is now.
-Possible Diddy Kong Racing character. All depends on what direction Rare would have taken these guys.
-Not Conker. He's from an M rated game, but unlike Snake his game isn't exactly "mature" and you can't really tone down Conker to work in Smash. Nintendo wouldn't have Mario alongside Conker.

If Nintendo had the rights to Rare's characters, only Banjo (with Kazooie) would be playable in Smash Bros. At best, the others would be Assist Trophies.

That depends on how far the Banjo series would have went after the possible third game. Which no one can really say. I'd be willing to guess the series would have at least gotten two characters. That's just my opinion.

Oh, and if Kameo stayed on the Gamecube we probably would have gotten her as well.

I really love the idea of what james bond would have played like if he had made it in. He was atleast considered at one point in smash 64's development.

Joanna Dark would have a good shot I think.

Assuming they would've made another PD game under Nintendo.

Who knows, that would have been really neat to see Bond in the game! The original proximity mine in Smash is from Goldeneye. I'm just guessing but I would assume they would have just given us Joanna Dark and the PD mine would have stayed the one in Smash.

Shame Nintendo isn't more of a unified company or else this philosophy could be spread across all of their development teams.

Forget that, Pokemon company and Sakurai are also opposites of each other

James Bond could be a cool compromise that gives fans Snake-like gameplay while also remaining a bit more relevant to Nintendo's history.
