Lightning voted best character in Dengeki's otaku-driven poll

After seeing Lumina, I can't help but wanting a FF game starring her character. I like her personality (well, her Japanese VA was enjoyable).
Yeah, yeah, I know the twist.

Yeah, you know what? Lumina in English was actually pretty decent and I wish she got more characterization (
I know the twist, too, but...
). I remember dreading that character when she was first revealed, but she ended up being okay, and being one of the better characters in the game from an entertainment standpoint.

Eh what...
I deleted the 4gig Japanese file because Lightning sounded even worst....Well, the whole casts were awful in Japanese surprisingly...
This was not Maaya Sakamoto's shining hour, really. Even if Lightning is not her best character, she was better in FF13.

So have interesting tidbits... Her competition...

http://2chyflabcom.blog.jp/archives/1000644434.html

2nd place was Hatsune Miku

3rd place was Monokuma

BWAHAHAHAHAH. Oh lord. XD

Further amusement,

4th place was Zero from Drag-on Dragoon 3

5th place was Neptune/Purple Heart

6th place was God Eater's Alisa

7th place was Yuna and Raiden for a tie.

9th was Rorona

and 10th is Rean from Sen no Kiseki

SO THERE YOU HAVE IT FOLKS

Japan, you are the worst.

When was the last Final Fantasy (or SE in general) character that people referred to as an actual goddess outside of the game? When was the last time a dominant reason for liking a character (at least express on GAF) was explicitly "I want to fuck them"? Don't push your insecurities on me. If you're not an otaku, don't explain to me why you aren't, i never called you one. But to deny that the face of the current FF fanbase isn't pandering to otaku, is crazy.

Except that she really doesn't become a goddess or is one, she is a servant of a god at the most, you are speaking from ignorance, if you knew anything about her story/background you wouldnt be spouting that bandwagon nonsense.
People also seem to forget that X-2 exists and it's much more offensive than any fan service that ever came out of XIII.

It's not that I think. That cat costume + pose + "redesign" (check the paragraph regarding the bust size and costumes) seems to imply that they are catering to the fanbase you are mentioning.

Q1: I think that one of Lightning`s most attractive features is her armpit. Is there a costume that will show off this part of her when she does her victory pose?

A1: Something that shows off her armpit..? Well, there are some revealing sets of costumes. I’m sure you’ll enjoy those.
Bwahahahah, holy shit

On the flip side it seems that's what you have to obtain dependable sales these days. Especially now that Japan's AAA market has tanked.

I don't think that's the case at all, I think Japanese developers are being far too lazy these days. Notice the artwork of Korean MMORPGs is full of naked people everwhere? Well, most Korean MMOs die within one year, despite whatever sexualized artwork they're using.

People are still people, they'll buy what's good if it's advertised well enough and is a solid experience they'll become a fan of the series. Japanese games and media turning into this sex crap is stupid.

I thought you were cool Toxi :/
I can't help it, they legitimately scare me.

Yuna, Riku, Fran, Aerith, Tifa, Yuffie, and Rydia are the big ones but really, all FF female party members get that treatment.

[ F U M E ] at her impact. The most iconic girl of the generation. FASHION ICON CLAIRE FARRON continues to snatch wigs left, right and centre. #getmad

....Did you even read my comment, or were you too busy being defensive? There are people, in this very thread, who refer to Lightning as "the goddess". My comment explicitly said outside of the game. As in, people when talking about the game, or Lightning in general, call her a goddess. It has nothing to do with the game's story.

Sorry, I read it and I missinterpreted it.

None of them had a following this devote, though. Yuna got dangerously close to this level of fandom. I recall people calling her "Queen Yuna", but this new level of devotion is something else. I guess it's been a gradual change in the fandom over time.

Well, sorry for being harsh. I just felt like I was being attacked. No offense.

2013 must have been a bad year for videogames.
No it wasn't.

"Year of Luigi"

Jorji Costava.

Really? Haven't played Lightning Returns nor have watched videos of the game in Japanese so I assumed Sakamoto did a good job.
Yeah, when I was playing the Japanese version before I played/platinumed the English version, I felt like she did a better job in FF13. I didn't play 13-2 in Japanese, so I don't know how that was (Kagari would probably have a better idea). There was something a bit off about her voice this time around by comparison.

I feel like both dubs in their entirety have their points, though. I *really* liked English Lumina a lot better than the Japanese version's.

Hello paycheck! More than likely phoning it in at this point. Who knows. But Maaya tends to be awesome generally though. Seeing her sift thru different personalities in 3rd Birthday was a treat.

Yeah, I actually did like Lumina. Every time she was in a cutscene, I paid attention a bit more and got interested in the story. She was somewhat entertaining and actually had a personality.
Yes, I know the twist.
The English VA did a great job for that type of character, too.

As far as Lightning goes... ugh, is this for real? I mean, I don't hate Lightning like some on here do, but she's not terribly exciting. Rather boring. She's not as offensive as some other JRPG characters, but she's certainly not the best at anything.

Actually....it does. I mean, I joke around about it here but the game actually addresses that point.

As much as I like Lightning, she is not even top 3 on that list, joking aside.
The hate, the meltdown and the backlash this is getting is so amusing and sad at the same time.

Again, I never said it was. I guess people are just stigma-ed from the term "otaku".

I think the change is due to the higher fidelity in graphics, to be honest. Before characters were sprites or so blocky that they didn't really elicit a physical attraction. Now that everything's HD, people are really caught on looks.

Bleh, sorry. I had a feeling that line would cause confusion. I don't mean that the story doesn't give a reason as to why she might be called a goddess. I meant that my point was not about the story, but her treatment as a character externally.

Don try the guilt trip. You renounced to you high horse rights when you come here to celebrate a "edick" contest.

I didn't know it was a she, but I'm totally for another game staring her.
