Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

Where can I find out what elements scale with what? I'm looking to buff my weapon with an elemental or something of the like and am not sure what I should best choose based on my stat layout.

Gwyrm shield, the enemies in Pharros drop them, takes 32 strenght to use though, but it was a life saver against smelter demon. And yep, 100% physical as well.

Smelter is just as easy as the early bosses once you realise he cant hit you if you roll under his arm as he swings, all his attacks are easily telegraphed, hug his right side and just roll towards him under his arm when he swings. Just dont forget to roll away when he launches in the air. Poison weapons mess him up too.
He takes naff all damage coop. If you're a heavy build then you'll prob have trouble.

Respecced to dex. Upgraded richard's rapier to +7 poison.. and I regret it. This thing does NO DAMAGE, even with S scaling....

My fist weapons did way more than this.
Well, there is an ultra greatsword with S scaling on DEX, but it still needs 30 STR. It's
the Curved Dragon Greatsword.

I'm kind of curious how it'll all shake out, I've got a balanced physical oriented build and am using the Drangelic Sword, but I feel I could probably do better.

Finally got manslayer. This thing beats blacksteel or uchi when its upgraded. Plus that poison dmg makes other players panic and run.

OT2 already you beasts??! My version isn't even out yet!

Since it feels like in DS 2 it's even more up to the player in which order to tackle the areas I wondered how you guys are doing it.

Beat the Last One, the Pursuer and the Lost Sinner. unpetrified the woman to get into the other forest area where I had a huge NOPE moment when I got to the first huge curse frog. Now I'm more thinking of going to Heides Tower. My main goal is to get a better weapon for my strenght'ish build as I'm still rocking my Knights Broadswoard (+4). Found the Crescent Axe in the forest but need twinkling titanite to upgrade before it's usable.

Question: There's supposed to be a
sleeping maiden that drops her staff when you kill her, right? I tried killing her, but she fell to her death before I got the last hit off. Am I screwed out of the item for the rest of this run, or will she respawn if I rest at a bonfire? Quitting and reloading didn't do anything as it might've in Dark Souls 1.
Hmm is that the one
chillin' before the boss area? I saw I could lock on to her but let her be for now... I'm wondering if I should kill her or not. :P

Can you drop a hint (tagged) as to how to get it? I gave up on the Berserker Blade, too boring to farm.

I just spent a couple of tries fighting
Scorpion Najka
. It was a good fight, challenging, and I died a few times but I managed to whittle the boss' HP down. After trying twice, I went and used a human effigy, and then a summon sign appeared and we beat it. Co op does make it a bit easier but it was still fun. The whole Shaded Forest/Ruins was a great place I think, pretty cool. Reminded me a bit of Dark Souls.

Scorpion Najka was definitely this game's version of Quelaag.

curious how long it took everyone to beat
the rotten
.

it took me 4 fuckin hours but I did it to myself by going to an over leveled area so early on. T_T

Did not have a hard time with this boss at all. Got it on my first try solo.

Instead of diving into new game + I started a new character focusing on quality. (Early game spoilers, just in case) Beat the
Pursuer
, the
Last Giant
, the
Dragonrider
, and the
Dragon Slayer
using the
Elite Knight
set and longsword.

On my first run the game felt so slow to me but starting over after having finished it once feels super easy. The only thing I have really noticed is that due to the lack of adaptability the i-frames are definitely not where I expect them to be.

Yea, I never really felt rapiers got the right balancing in these games. Even with the bonus damage for counter/riposte strikes, they always feel way behind the curve. Always hate how the description states rapiers work well for penetrating heavy armor with it's thrust damage, yet a base scimitar dominates them in damage even against the most tank-plated foes(and that description straight up tells you not to use curved swords against armored foes).

Shame, as I do appreciate the high dex scaling rapiers have, but they still blow.

She
jumps up and attacks you if you get close enough
.

Also, the Manslayer is
in a chest in that area, behind the Death Door or whatever
.

Anyone banged out the math on upgrading ADP and its diminishing returns? I need more movement speed but don't feel like dumping too much into it.

Ah okay. I'll go murder her then I guess. :D

Damn I thought I explored everywhere in that place... don't know what the Death Door is. Anyway, I quit at the 4th bonfire (shortly after the boss), so I'll take a look around tomorrow. Thanks.

Berserker is not worth it, neither is Chaos Blade. Blacksteel +10 does more damage but has a worse moveset. I still prefer manslayer and darkdrift. They are both way better in my opinion, but I think darkdrift is still the coolest and has the best utility ( r2 goes through shield).

Man the only katanas I have are the uchi and the blacksteel so far. Both are at +10, I switch between the two depending on durability or whether I want the uchi's r2 thrust in narrow corridors or just the higher damage output of the blacksteel. They have served me well, but I could always use an upgrade. ;)

Manslayer and Darkdrift sound badass. Any vague hint about where to find Darkdrift? I'm at
Shrine of Amala, just beat the boss and found the next bonfire
. Did I miss it in an earlier area, or will I find it later?

So, I thought I was pretty underleveled... and then I got to
Smelter Demon
. I was doing absolutely farts for damage on that guy. Do you have to use a piercing weapon or something?

It's after the boss. There's 2 paths. Go right(left goes to the crypt) and up to find another milfino and stairs going down. At the bottom(careful of the edge) there are alcoves on the right and left each with a chest/item. It's one of those IIRC.

Black knight halberd would like a word.

I mean, it's not too great from a pvp perspective because the opponent can just hug your face and take 20% of the damage you can do.

The very next area, from an npc after you clear it. Or you can murder the old lady merchant for it if you're a monster.

Do i need to play the first one in order to understand the second one?

I played the first one a lot, and i have no clue what's happening now story wise. There's a lot of throwbacks for the first game, but i'd say gameplay wise it's really newcomer friendly, i feel the first areas in this game are a lot more forgiving then in the first game.

Get it in
shrine of amana
. BTW, I also gave up on Berserker blade, that red phantom stopped spawning after killing him number of times. Now he's completely no show, possibly because I farmed him too much? Just like how certain enemies disappear after killing them number of times.

I'm having a hard time killing him, didn't even know about this shield. Thanks for the tip, this will help a lot.

What does
pulling the lever at the begging of aida's keep do? I assume unlock the guy I found after on the other side but he only says one line about travelling for his next target. A side quest I take it?

I'm a scumbag pvp mage. I like to kill people with poison clouds as mobs whale on them. It just feels so natural.

But on another topic: I would really like to make a pure huge weapon character and I'm not sure how to do it. In the end I'd like to be able to use a big shield and something like ultra greatsword as a combo, as much metal on me as possible. What kind of stat spread should I go for this time? Anyone have a similar one? Also the weapon choice should work for pvp purposes.

better than a greatsword-wielding manhood compensating str player :D

The first one's really vague and you'd just miss references, but perhaps given how many of those references are "but the knowledge was lost to time" it might actually be more interesting in a way to go back to DS after DSII. So do whatever, if you like the game enough you will want to go back anyway, even for Dark Souls I felt this way and went back to Demon's Souls.

I dunno. I stacked all my item discovery (merchant headgear, prisoner rag, ring+1) and killed him about 6 times, he never dropped anything, not even armour. Not to mention he spawns only rarely, so I decided it was not worth it. Gonna try to get those other kats instead.

Speaking of the Shrine of
Amana
, I remember a lot of people bitching about it.
I didn't think it was that bad, but I am a dex build with a good bow. I imagine that helped tremendously, haha. Took my time and sniped all those mage fuckers. Also, the torch is immensely useful when exploring in this place, you can clearly see where the falls are.
I really liked that area, artistically. It was very pretty and cool-looking.

.....my Internet is not the greatest so I sincerely hope it is possible to finish the game all offline.

Just finish the game, not beating super-hard-optional-super-bosses or anything. Simply finish the game.

Is it possible, guys?

yeah definitely.

and maybe consider going full offline if you don't want to deal with terrible lag when invaders happen.

You know what the biggest scumbag thing I do, chaos storm in peoples face, then when they get knocked down, chaos storm again. The RNG gods are usually in my favor. ;3

Oh and I start every match with two pryomancy flames equiped. People love trying to heal in front of me, then bam, whip out a great sword and whack em in the face, feels good.
