i got invaded earlier while afk and hollow. the invader was waiting until i got back, that was pretty cool. can you be invaded while hollow with a covenant or item or something?

what's a good weapon for a high faith character?

Could give Mace of the Insolent a try.

Found in Undead Crypt, you can cast miracles using the strong attack. Need 15 STR/10 DEX/10 Faith to wield, has an E scaling in lightning.

or Dragonslayer's Crecent Axe, or Dragonslayer's spear if you have the high dex needed to wield it.

Any lightning infused weapon should work though.

I can't see the Ring of Life Protection being allowed to stay in its current form for much longer, it's incredibly overpowered. As of now it prevents you from becoming hollow, saves all your souls when you die, is found very early on in the Wharf and and only costs 3000 souls to repair.

I don't think it's that OP - for me, needing to head back to the black smith after every death would get annoying very, very fast. Maybe once I had 3 or 4 rings or something - I know of at least two rings that do that in NG, so maybe in NG+ once I had like, 4 of them - but even then.

Giving up a ring slot + the inconvenience factor of going back /every time/ is enough to keep it as a once in a blue moon ring for me. Sort of 'I'm far into a level, a huge pile of souls on me - not sure where the next bonfire is, and not wanting to back track/homeward bone to spend it'.

Meh, only problem I have with character creation is that it's so slow. It's very easy to make a goodlooking character.

I don't know, the default skeleton is pretty inhuman especially for female characters and I don't think they give you that many tools to change it? I could be wrong though.

Dammit, my brother and my friend got me back into Diablo 3 in prep for the expansion. I really need to get back to this, but Diablo couldn't be further from the playstyle I need to do DS2. The transition back and forth is rough >_>

Ehhhhh.

Honestly most of the time I'd rather use the ring of binding. I'll only use life protection if I'm at the boss door and if I'm holding onto a good number of souls.

Honestly unless you intend to summon a lot 75% health is really that big of a nerf. Most of the time it just means that you can take one less hit from a boss.

creating a normal looking human in character creation

I gave my guy a grey beard in the character creation screen but when he hollowed it turns orange! It looks so bad against the ugly green skin, haha. Thankfully I'm wearing a full helm on this build.

FINISHED NG

WOW! It didn't start out strong compared to OG Dark Souls IMO, but the late game level design/artwork and bosses were the most memorable out of both games for me

I just made it to the bell tower last night. Had to peel myself away from all the fun invasions in order to advance. The rate at which you get sent to another person's world is amazing. I love playing this game so soon after launch.

I'm approaching mid/late game (just finished
Shrine of Amana
) between
Iron Keep, Drangelic Castle, Shrine of Amana
) my opinion of the game has shot up through the roof.

Initially I was like : ok - the game is good, really good - better than other games for sure, but feels like it's lacking a bit of "soul".... then you sort of hit those levels - and it's kind of amazing.

Initial impressions would be 'good, but not as good as DKSI - but close' .... now I'm starting to think 'maybe ... maybe this is going to be better than DKSI'.

I also like
The Black Gulch
- even though it's not a place I look forward to revisiting on NG+ and other playthroughs, it is one of those levels that gets sort of this base guttural reaction out of you. Going through that moment of 'what the fuck?! this is impossible' .... to figuring out how to best approach it, then realizing that it's actually not that bad once you figure out the 'tricks' of the level.

I ended my session last night after just entering the
Undead Crypt
and can't wait until I'm off work to get back at it.

How hard is
beheaded snake lady? I fought her once but didn't really try to win after I saw there was poison everywhere. I read on here that you burn the windmill to get rid of it, and I did that. She looks solo-able. The fat worm thing was, anyway.

Also, the
black katana is a rare drop from those black gnome things in Belfry luna?
If so, I'm going back there.

Uuuh you sure about this? Seems like the most difficult class to me from the way it looks, hahaha.

I am a total beginner for Souls games.

Doesn't matter, tbh. Just go with whatever is your playstyle. I guess most noobs can just build a tank and absorb the hits.

Curse? No, Hollowed (when your max HP is capped) yes.

Hmm. Well, getting cursed as a human allowed me to use an Effigy again instantly, which is obviously not possible when you're human (greyed out and whatnot); it more or less had the effect of dying without actually dying.

Is that an accurate take on things?

Late game SPOILERS
Anyone know where to go after the dragon shrine? Already been to the memories of those giants.

Curse seems to work differently in this game. I was cursed fully from a pot, and it said 'you are cursed' but there was a very quick timer that dropped and then it went away. In Dark Souls when you get cursed, you die and the start again with half health. I'm assuming that curse just turns you hollow?

Yeah, each time you get cursed you just become more hollow.

Yep I went through pretty much the exact same thing.
Iron Keep
is where the game turned around for me, every area after that was spectacular except maybe
shaded woods
. But that's a just a drop in the bucket compared to how awesome everything else was

Yeah some reason didn't notice straid stood outside his cell :/

Think today going be one those days, I think this is first time in a souls game I'm using a great shield normally

I've got a few Phallanx, Phallon, I keep forgetting, but I;ve got a few of them stones you can place in walls and it opens secrets. What are good places to place them in for loot? \

And also, Havest Valley question: my ass keeps getting
poisoned,
any good way to deal with this?

You can repair that ring after using it? I thought it would just vanish like in DS1 (?)
Well, I'll probably use it if I am in front of a boss gate with a lot of souls but otherwise running back to the blacksmith after every death sounds really annoying.

Is it just me, or is the needed souls for leveling up in Dark Souls II a lesser progression than the first one? Like, I'm in the 90s for SL right now and I'm just now hitting the 'need 10k+ souls to level up' barrier. I felt like I was spending more souls to level up earlier in Dark Souls. Perhaps it's because the game world is larger. Or feels larger at least.

Anyone else think that bosses generally hit a lot harder in this game. Almost all of them have been able to 2 shot me it feels, and some have one shottted me when I've been going in with 75% health.

Larger game, and with the addition of new stats, some builds needing a large investment in many stats, and not as easy to 'grind for souls' (outside of co-op) due to limited respawn - I think the souls per level curve has been adjusted to account for it.

Pop a lifegem the moment it happens and then another when the first one stops working, if you time it right you'll have hardly lost any HP.

Was I the only one who would routinely buy dozens of lifegems at a time from the merchant at Majula every time I went back there? They're so handy to have.

I keep stocked up on them, after doing my leveling up / upgrading / errands - tend to spend any remaining souls on life gems.
