Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

How do you mean? I've yet to play the game, pretty goddamn excited for the PC version

I don't really give a fuck about the lore though, so if it's just all lore-related I don't think it matters to me

Don't let me dissuade you from buying the game. By all accounts, it's quite well-crafted.

It's just, you know, after spending 7 years on NeoGAF... I find it very difficult to NOT talk in hyperbole.

The X1 is completely undesirable compared next to the PS4. Like shockingly undesirable as a 360 gamer, I can't believe how much I don't care about it.

From reading this forum, I think one of mine is I was not a fan of FFXII and I really don't think it was that great of a game (at best it was ok). And it had nothing to do with being an open world game or sidequests like I saw some one claim was the reason he thought people disliked it (it was the gameplay and a very boring villain that I was annoyed the game seemed to expect I'd take for granted he was evil as it really only showed him acting evil once. As well as not being a fan of the style of the level design for the game designer, didn't like Vagrant Story's level design either).

Not sure if I have any others that are totally controversial. Most others I can think of I am sure i can find people who agree (and also people who strongly disagree, for example really think Bioshock Infinite was highly over rated, but I know I'm not alone in that).

Metacritic is a useful and remarkably accurate resource. Obviously certain prejudices creep in from time to time and distort scores, but those variances are very much of the "exception that proves the rule" variety.

I refuse to play Bravely Default on the fact that the art direction took them into chibi art forms. It really bothers me because some of them are sexualized. :\ It doesn't even matter what age the game gives them.

I wish they stuck with the original design with appropriate proportions.

I feel as if Metroid Prime did everything it could in the 1st hour and a half to drive newcomers away.

I mean I got pissed after getting taught all these cool mechanics and then boom you can't do them anymore.

The WiiU is the best console f this generation

The Last of Us wasn't that great

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 was best game last generation

3DS games kind of get boring really fast

Mario Kart Wii was best in the series so far

Halo series is terrible and basically started the 'lets say something is cool, force it on people and everyone will be cool for playing something cool' thing (Gears of War followed and was equally as bad)

Final Fantasy 9 was more enjoyable than 7 or 8.

NBA Live 14 has better gameplay than NBA 2K14

I won't play a game if a female is the protagonist. Not sexist I just want to play as a guy cause I am a guy.

For me it´s almost the complete opposite - I really prefer playing as attractive females.

I bought DOA5 mainly because I love the design of Mila so much:

On the other hand, the moment I realized what a terrible douchebag design the main character in Killzone for the Vita was I almost instantly lost interest in the game:

This being said, I still love games with sleek male designs like Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden Black, but I tried God Of War recently and man, I just don´t like playing as a roid rage dickhead.

Wut.

"Food isn't very tasty"

Elaborate

Playing Mario kart 7, I get bored of it after about one Grand Prix. Meanwhile, I can play Wii for hours on end. Same with Animal crossing. Got bored after an hour of play time, while I used to play City Folk for hours. Played Sticker Star in about 30 min. play times because I got bored of it fast, while I played 64 and Super for hours. Dillion's Rolling Western is another one, but Super Mario 3D Land and Zelda: OoT were the only ones I could play for hours.

I think I just don't like the "handheld" style of gaming.

-I think Tomb Raider (2013) is better than any of the Uncharted games.

-The Last of Us had a good story, mo-cap, and voice acting, and that's about it. While the story did personally resonate with me, I feel like there is way too much praise for the game and not enough talk about its flaws. Combat in that game was terrible and a chore. I also feel like it's a disservice that it won so many GoTY awards. It's a disservice to games that were more well-realized in all areas, not just story. Maybe give the TLoU Best Story awards, or Best Characters, but GoTY is pushing it for me.

The modern Battlefield games are terrible, with awkward, dull gunplay that is totally ruined by snipers. Most people who play BF these days don't really enjoy the games, they just play them as some sort of a sad protest against CoD or because can't play Titanfall.

As a hardcore starfox fanboy, I greatly enjoyed starfox adventures and starfox assault, I also think assault is the building blocks for all future starfox games, I initially enjoyed starfox command, but my opinion of it has gone down over the years.

It's always nice to see this piece of shit thread come swinging back everyone once in a while.
More than two years it's been kicking!

Im with ya on the female character.

Doesnt even need to be attractive. At this point I won't bother with a new IP unless they allow me to play as a woman.

My GF is like that. We are complete opposites I had to get her to play Team Fortress 2 so I did some reskin mods for all the classes to make them female. So fun playing side by side.

I'm kinda like that aswell, not a extreme version tho, if the main character is a guy then I'll still gladly play it but if I am given the option to play a girl I jump at the chance.

Don't ever, ever, ever, ever, EVER EVER EVER EVER ask the opinion of someone who unilaterally hates a feature their opinion of that feature of a game you the developer are working on, or you the player revere. It will ALWAYS be "it sucks and should not exist" and therefore isn't a good gauge of its quality or even its worthiness of remaining. It is always only of worth as part of a whole amongst many.

Don't ask me about cheevos or QTEs, for instance.

I'm a big Rare fan, but I don't get Conker's Bad Fur Day and don't see why it is praised so highly. IMO it's a big step down from Banjo and DK 64. Painfully linear, nauseating camera, unsatisfying platforming, and weak combat. It seems to alternate between two modes: 1.) Mandatory action sequences with new controls thrown at you that are never used again (i.e. the bull and prune juice thing) or 2.) platforming up to ridiculously high apexes using very narrow footholds. I get the impression that they thought of funny scenarios first and gameplay second, shoehorning in the controls to fit the set pieces. In that way it reminds me of modern cinematic action games like Uncharted. That's not a compliment.

I can see why it made a big impact at time of release. Take the popular 3D platformer and throw in South Park style crude humor. And it is really funny with a lot of personality. But gameplay wise it's just a decent but frustrating 3D platformer. Not even close to Mario 64, Banjo, Jak, etc. Am I missing something here? If so, Conker fans, fill me in!

The big reason for me was the multiplayer to be honest. Granted it helped i grew up with 3 brothers (which made the n64 perfect for us at the time), but i have fond memories of playing split screen multiplayer in that game (also the caveman vs dinosaur game mode which also falls into the multiplayer category). I think in general the game just had a lot of charm as well. More of an experience than a representation of masterful mechanics.

To be fair, those are some bad examples. 7 isn't the best MK game, and I also liked it a lot less than prior instalments. Animal Crossing is a funny one, since you have to really make your own goals and it's a very open playstyle. Lots don't like it, which is fair enough. But I have to say, if you played Wild World, City Folk was one of the laziest instalments of any Nintendo series ever. New Leaf is a vast improvement. Sticker Star... well, I'm sure you know the general consensus on that one. Dillon is probably one of the worst Nintendo-made eShop titles to come out on the 3DS.

Try;
Pushmo
Kid Icarus: Uprising
Link Between Worlds

I mean, do you just wish it was on a bigger screen? Sounded like problems with the games themselves.

- Both the Playstation 4 and the Xbox One are very underwhelming systems. They literally are just souped up Playstation 3s and Xbox 360s.

- The Nintendo 64 was a horrible console saved by six games: Super Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie/Tooie, Conker's Bad Fur Day, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarine of Time/Majora's Mask. That is it. Every other game on the system wasn't really exceptional compared to that generation's offerings. Yes these seven games are incredible, but outside of them the library falls pitifully flat. The American Sega Saturn had more "must own games" than the Nintendo 64 did (Nights, Guardian Heroes, Burning Rangers, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Virtua On, House of the Dead, Virtual Fighter 2) and that's just from the top of my head. Yet that system is considered a "failure" while the Nintendo 64 is considered a "classic"?

- Microsoft just sucks. Not to sound like a fanboy but I never understood why people like this company. Charging people for online play, pushing for pay for DLC as much as possible, and then that gaming cloud bullshit. And all their systems exclusives are just terrible, not because of gameplay but because they perform these practices in spades, just look at Forza and Killer Instinct. I never understood why people support this company, especially when 95% of the system's games are available on its competing platform (though to be fair its nearly vice versa).

- Games in general are best with "A" or "AA" budgets. I feel that both Western and Japanese (especially) create much better games with smaller more focused budgets.

- The FPS Source Engine is one of the most fluid FPS engines around. Overall, it's probably one of the best FPS engines in gaming.
I never got the hate. The engine is amazing. I also never got the graphical complaints. Portal 2 looked up to par with everything else at the time. And yes the "feel" of these games are amazing. Not sure how much it has to do with Source but every game on it feels smooth, even mod games like NeoTokyo.

I would cancel every FPS title for a year if it meant we could get a single great 3D platformer on a console other than Nintendo's.

I love my Xbox one and value voice controls. In mass effect you could order your characters cast spells and heal without pausing.on X1 I really like snap and the fluidity.

I also think Xbox one current exclusives destroy knack and kill zone and resogun.noe infamous may change that.

Ryse was beautiful and a fun story to see through and good voice acting. Fights got old though.

Titanfall destroys anything out now on either system and imo will be better then infamous in sales etc. Very fun game and I got tired f shooters. Hell I have BF4 since launch and barely played its MP

Every single person who purchases MGSV: Ground Zeroes is a sucker. They have lost the right to complain about anything this industry does to take their money. They just continue to prove that this industry is right in their efforts to squeeze every single penny out of us. Online paywalls, breaking up games to sell DLC and now selling demos.

Disgusting.

Dark Souls is praised because of its brutal difficulty, but that difficulty only comes as a result of its poor design. There are many games out there that are just as difficult, but on purpose.

It's not uncommon. I never play MMOs as a "human" character anymore cause I'm already one irl, but a lot of people will only play human characters that are the same gender as themselves.

Then some ask me on my female characters why I'm playing as a female (after they hit on me and I tell them that I'm a guy irl). Yeah I dunno.

I don't believe Metal Gear Solid, God of War or Halo (as examples) are significantly more intellectual than Bejeweled or Angry Birds. I think the difference in taste between "core" gamers and casual ones more closely resembles the difference between boys who liked G.I. Joe and girls who like Care Bears than it does adults who enjoy No Country for Old Men and manchildren who enjoy 300.

Titanfall is worthy of the hype and deserves as much, if not more, success than COD.
MS made a smart play blocking it's appearance on Sony systems and I hope people buy X1s to play the game because the game itself deserves as much success as possible.

I could, but I don't care to. Doesn't really seem like the point of this thread!

It's not called "say stupid things without explaining yourself", is it?

Shame it's not on the Sony systems too then, it'd be even more successful

Dark Souls' difficulty is highly exaggerated by both fanatical fans, and detractors who think it's a mean game that's stupid.

It's probably one of the most deliberately calculated games you can find; there's nothing clunky about it in almost any way. It is essentially a game about comprehension and situational awareness. That doesn't mean everyone has to love what it offers.

It's not. However stuff like that can easily be done in the OT for games that still have a following.

This thread already gets derailed away from opinions and people attacking/telling other people their opinions are wrong.

Dont know if these are really controversial, but ill try:

-Skyrim is mediocre: bad gameplay mechanics and atrocious AI. Only good thing about it are the side quests

-KotoR is the best wrpg ... EVER.

-Dragon age origins was the last real good wrpg

-Most mmorpgs are just bad, either trying too hard to be different from wow (guild wars, elder scrolls) or as similar as possible (tor, lotr)

-titanfall is overhyped

-bioshock infinites gameplay was boring, story good though

-AC series is in a stalemate since brotherhood

The only one that you could say is really fits the thread are the last three.

AC3 and 4 had amazing sells, so the majority of people don't agree. I actually agree on the Shock one though.

TF is to early to call yet.

I feel like Pokemon is the laziest game series ever. The game should have advanced a ton since being on the original gameboy, but the release essentially the same game every time and people lap it up, so they never change the formula. I really dislike Pokemon.

True enough. I just think saying DS is poorly designed is blatantly wrong, I've heard others say the same, but I've yet to see a convincing argument as to why it's poorly designed.

And I don't think it's good because it's so hard. In fact, I wouldn't mind if it was a tiny bit easier.
This here's a controversial opinion I'd wager
