Is there any point to
Pharros' contraption in No Man's Wharf?

How many points do you need in Attunement to get 1 slot?

Still haven't been invaded yet in about 15 hours of play, barely been human either

It creates a
giant light in the Wharf which is helpful because those weird looking black enemies are afraid of the light. So they hide in buildings instead of bothering you.

I've only been invaded in the 4 "PVP-centric" areas in the game. Did they take out normal invasions or something?

One of these days, I'm gonna try a Souls games and go full on heavy-ish armor with a big heavy weapon. In all 3 games, I have been a very light character focused with magic. I might change it up when I replay some of the games. I'm so used to his playstyle, though. lol

I did that with DS1 literally just before starting DS2. Went all heavy using the Demon's Greataxe. SO much fun, especially to be summoned in co-op and wreck the bosses for people.

Hello guys! After years of lurking this is my first post here on GAF and it feels ohhh so good, and which better place than in the DS2 thread with you bros? Dark Souls is my GOAT so it's only fitting.

Now question for anyone in here...
I think I'm pretty far in the game now, I'm at Drangleic Castle and everything has been smooth sailing up until now where I'm officially stuck for the first time. I've just beaten the twin Dragonriders and have fully explored (I think) the two branching pathways following the next bonfire by the moon sword bro. I've backtracked, checked for illusionary walls and even shot at the queen to see if she was an illusion or something? Any help would be appreciated, looking to make some more progress tonight.

It sounds like you need to
activate the elevator. There's a room up a ladder near the post-Dragonriders bonfire with a bunch of the spear-wielding statues and one of the big statues that turns a mechanism like at the entrance to the castle. You need to kill an enemy near the big guy to wake him up and get him to turn the wheel and activate the elevator. That'll get you what you need to proceed.

It probably made more sense before they lit up all the dark areas for the final game (presumably) but it's still useful for
the fire fearing mobs.

And I think it's 8 or 10 points. Honestly I just didn't bother until I respecced, that addition's pretty good since it's a lot easier to rationalize it that way than when you can only do one or two (maybe three) at a time and want it to matter.

Welcome!

Iirc in the room underneath the snipers there's a level which brings the elevator in front of the locked door down. There a lever somewhere around there anyway
. edit: beaten and I think I was wrong anyway!

Yeah, sometimes I equip a giant weapon I find just to see what it looks like and check out the move set (even if I can't use it properly with my stats). Looks like it'd be fun to play around with. In all the Souls games, I have typically just used a 1-handed sword while focusing on magic/pyromancy, lol. I like being light so my rolls are fast. But I want to try something new next time, I think.

Was farming for the Blacksteel Katana and ended up getting the Alonne set with the katana at last. Leveled the katana up to +6 without thinking about it. Did I mess up by doing this? Gonna rock the full Alonne set for now since I've been wearing the bandit armor since I started the game unless there's something better coming up soon

Blacksteel is awesome! Dat R2 draw is very cool. If you're gonna use a katana, I'd suggest a lighter armor set. Alonne Knight armor is heavy. Try Black Leather or the Alva set. The latter can be gotten from the armor merchant in Majula. Spend 16k and then it'll be available for sale.

Yeah, if you're at ground level, look at the clifftop all the way over at the part that's nearly even (except way higher) with the pier. That's where the switch is, on a wooden deck. You have to go through a few buildings to get to it.

Yeah i just got closed the area out.

Huh... That's strange, I had tried that yesterday and got no response out of the big fella? Maybe a glitch or something. I remember there was a short period of time in
Doors of Pharros
when no enemies were attacking me or reacting after I would hit them. Any other reported issues of that I may have missed?

Thanks bruh bruh!

I'm not done yet, but so much more.
Phew cool thanks. I don't want this game to end. Especially since my dorms internet has been spotty and I've played parts without messages and all that stuff. Glad to know I have a ways to go. Probably going to hold off till spring break&better internet to continue though. I want to get the most out of this. Just bought demon souls. I'll play that during my free time till then.

This game is amazing though. Imo better than DaS1 by quite a bit. Probably because I actually got it at launch. Put in close to 30 hours so far. Easily going to be my game of the year. And definitely one of my favorite games of all time next to new vegas and halo 3(multiplayer). The scale is just so epic and everything just feels right.

A few questions guys:

I destroyed a chest behind an illusionary wall after I defeated the
Ruin Sentinels.
Was there anything important in it?

I also found a shortcut to
Belfry(?) But there's a midget that says leave or die or something? Bell Covenant guy? Is it okay to push forward in this area or are all these midgets going to attack?

Finally, I was invaded by a "Grey Phantom," but can't find him or use black separation crystal - what's the deal with grey phantoms?

Just picked it up on a whim.

At first I wasn't sure if it was for me (too slow and such) but I got to the early (??) area with all the Knight dudes and it kinda began to click. Just got to be patient, see the enemy attack patterns and such.

Still not fully sure if its for me but staring to feel something

The greys are like the Forest Covenant in Dark Souls. If you're on their turf, they get summoned in to kick your ass. If a covenant member is in the area, he can also get invaded by his own covenant.

Got invaded by someone when I was dealing with the Gutter and
talking to the covenant leader there.
I swear if I was with that person in real life I'd probably punch them in the face right now, that somehow pisses me off more than other types of invading.

EDIT: Didn't help the guy used the thumb pointing emote afterwards. And this highlights part of the problem with making hollow invadeable, sometimes we just want the fuckers to go away and let us do something like talk to NPCs or figure stuff out.

So I'm trying to remember the locations of the doors I've seen over the course of the game that required the K
ing's ring
.

So far I recall:

The Forest of Fallen Giants
Drangleic Castle
and the middle path of the fork in Shaded Woods

Am I missing any? It feels like there were more but that may have been me returning in desperation to areas when I was stumped about where to go earlier and seeing the same ones.

Heh, the only time I ever even threw my controller was over that specific invasion, and it wasn't that serious. I was kind of insanely unlucky too given that he actually saw me drop down right after invading rather than being lost as to where I went.

Ah thanks! Any insight on other questions?

I went through there yesterday, there were at least 5 illusionary walls I found. I think one chest had a Parrying Dagger, but that could have been in the open. I also found some consumables like a Rusted Coin, but nothing really amazing. There's also a Twinblade, but I think it's in a chest in the open.

Edit- just punch chests once withyour bare fist (no weapon equipped). If you hit a chest multiple times you will break it, but you only need hit it once to check for Mimics.

Is there anywhere I can procure a large amount of arrows better than Iron? I am sure people who have made it to late game know why I am asking...

He literally destroyed it with something else. I think it was a bat or something.

This dude just smashed his DS controller on twitch. That [REDACTED] is pissing him off.

Another boss spoiled. Thanks for that. Is it so hard to use
spoiler
tags?

I'm out, which sucks because playing through the game along with GAFers in this thread is a lot of fun.

Bye.

One thing I'm noticing is that I am really far into this game (49 hours and a ton of bosses down) and I'm still no where near as powerful as I was at the end game in DkS or DeS which suggests to me I'm not actually close to the end yet.

Is there anything great that I missed out in in the mist part if the shaded woods? I got the vengarl helm, cholorhpy ring +1, and another ring. Any thing else that I should go back for?

-The Pharros stone
lights up the entire wharf making it easier to see and light torches along the way.

I haven't been invaded at 33 hours of play.

Yeah I've only been invaded once or twice. I do get pulled in as a grey phantom in the rat area and bell area though.

I think most people are just trying to beat the game right now. I'm pretty sure in a few weeks after more people have beaten the game everyone will do NG+ and/or roll a new char and go invading like crazy.

I think most of the invading is in the endgame, I rarely ever saw invasions (excluding the bell tower anyway) but then you have places like the Black Gulch where it's not all that uncommon, which is REALLY frustrating because that shithole has dozens of poison shooting statues in a tight space so if you're carefully disarming the place it'll be reset if some prick comes in and kills you. Even worse because hidden there is
a covenant that would require getting through some of the bullshit from EITHER bonfire.

Decided on the Gyrm Axe to level. It's fun to use and I like the move set :)

Although I have to admit there's a learning curve involved. I've walked into Iron Keep and those guys at the beginning are not forgiving on a missed swing.
