Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

Just beat the game. It was an awesome ride. This game is huge! So many areas to explore, and I just didn't want to stop playing. I enjoyed it a lot more than the other two souls games, but that may have to do with this being my first true blind run. The ending was not that great, but souls game so yeah.

In all honesty I thought this game was harder than DeS, and DaS. I hear everyone saying it's easier, but maybe it's just me, or my build. The enemies being more aggressive, the crappy parry, more difficult backstabs, and roll being different took a while for me to get used to. I enjoyed the bosses. Have a feeling that I was over leveled for some because I missed some locations early on. Some had me screaming in anger while others had me laugh at how easy they were.

Also had a lot of fun in PvP this time around. PvP was something I never really got into in the other games because I got into them so late. Aside from a few laggy matches here and there it was overall a smoother experience for me. The servers are populated so it should stay that way for a while. Really like the new covenants, and now I can try them all out without having to dedicate fully or start a new game.

Damn, I have that same level and I have 3
old Souls
. Maybe I should stop leveling altogether.

Made some poor weapon choices that have left me terribly underpowered. I'm SL81 and it feels like early-game, though now with poisoning to deal with.

Which reminds me: so you don't get your body back from killing bosses as a summon, you don't get it back when defeating a boss yourself, wtf man? Effigy & "big" bosses only? No wonder no one's invading - everyone's fucking hollow all the time. I haven't had my human body for like five hours.

But so yeah, any advice/tips for this kind of bind? It can't be uncommon. How does one get out of these sorts of ruts?

I never got into the pvp aspects of the souls games before for several reasons but i'm really enjoying pvp in dark souls 2. Thats why the rat covenant is so damn good basically assholes come into my world to get killed, i can be a real asshole that way which is fucking great. Anything from killing fools with my lighting while they have their back turned while facing enemies to lowering their equipment durability with an item or the enviroment. Too bad it takes fucking forever to level up in the covenant, i had to kill like 10 dudes before i gained a new rank. Btw my character name is Emeric so maybe i kill one of ya i dunno lol.
Also i think my game is bugged, in pharros right after the bonfire the enemies don't aggro no matter what i do and they are also invincible so they just stand there. Its a bug right? i'm not missing anything right?

Go to things betwixt and respec using the soul vessel.

Be better at assigning your levels.

You can be summoned pretty easily outside of most boss encounters. Just fight the boss a few times as a phantom, and you will become human at some point (and gain practice for the boss). It seems random though. Sometimes I become human when we win, and sometimes I become human when the host dies.

I've found that effigies aren't all that hard to come by either. I've got around 15 stockpiled.

I'm weak, couldn't wait for the PC version, so I'm downloading the PS3 version at the moment.

I don't think I ever actually finished Demon's Souls or Dark Souls so uh, wish me luck lol

e: any starter tips? I'd rather not browse the thread too much, I want most of the game to be completely new to me

Does anyone know if the digital download on the xbox is region locked? I'm in japan and have an American account. I'd like to find out before I add money to my account only to find out I can't download it

He is the same powered up as he is when he isn't as far as i can tell. He just hits harder.

keep to his right side (Your left) and roll towards him when he swings under his arm get 2 hits in then move to the left again.

Use a magic weapon or poison and try not to use a slashing weapon if you can help it.

I did but it does bugger all damage. The poison killed him in the end.
Thanks I beat him. I just upgraded the Gyrm Greatshield (100% fire block) and it made a mockery of his attacks.

So my game is bugged 34 hours in and I'm unable to progress since the
left statue
of the main doors to the final area isn't behaving as it should.

FML. Do you guys think I should wait for a patch?

I've done that twice (lol); my levels are fine so far as I can tell; the problem is all my upgraded weapons are shit (Twinblade, Notched Whip, etc.) and have no recourse but to use un-upgraded weapons or stick with that garbage. No souls, no titanite, no effigy, cursed to fuck.

Tell me I'm not looking at a restart ...

Not a bug. If you're in the rat covenant, they don't attack you.

Yep, you need to be human to see any summon signs (human or NPC). I believe if you join the Victor's Covenant (I didn't) that it prevents summons as well.

You will need to be online for human summons. You should still be able to get NPC summons offline, though.
Ok, i see. Thanks for the info to everyone :)

Which area in specific is that?

Go into coop and get tons of souls from helping to kill bosses (go sunbro so you can help beat bosses you already beat)

With the extra money you can buy enough shards to start over with other weapons.

Once you get far enough into the game, more shards are available.

Wow, thats weird because the enemies right before the bonfire do aggro. I wonder whats the connection between pharros and the rat covenant.
Also i have been awake since 3 AM because i had a cold and a huge headache so i just played Dark souls 2 all night long, it actually helped with my headache.

Do you have the
Black Knight Halberd
? It's pretty beefy even without an upgrade. It's located near the S
haded
R
uins
bonfire if you haven't picked it up yet.

Not too hard. You'll need 2.5 playthroughs (to unlock Chancellor Wellager's upgraded wares) and a few respecs depending on your build (must meet INT/FTH requirement for some spell vendors to sell you stuff). I'm working on NG+ right now. The only trophies I need is collect all sorceries/miracles/etc and inherit
Lucatiel's
equipment, which I need one more boss for. I'll get all four spell collection trophies on NG++.

So similar to DkS1. I remember that required some PvP to level up certain covenants to unlock magic or weapons. Same sort of thing required here?

The main doors to Drangleic Castle
There's probably more guys straggling around to the side of the castle, I thought it glitched on me too but you have to kill them all. Also that is not even remotely close to the final area yet

Still at the start of the game , my question is should I wait to upragde my weapons ?
I upgraded 2 time my
fire sword
and was wondering if I should wait before upgrading anything else ?

Not sure where I have to go. I've collected the
four giant souls and killed the boss in the throne of want... Do I have to kill Vendrick?

The main doors to Drangleic Castle
I see. As perorist mentioned, maybe you havnt killed off all soldiers yet? Try searching on both sides. On the left side, there is a small "hallway", its a dead end, but maybe some soldiers are down there.

Go to
the forrest where the Shrine of Winter is located. There is a path there that leads to a King's Symbol door. No, you dont have to kill Vendrick.

Can I get a weapon recommendation? Currently got
two of the main souls
and i'm working my way trough the
Doors of Pharros
now. I'm using a Mace +7 right now and as far as damage goes it's great. My big issue with it is reach. I gotta get right up in someone face to hit them. Is their another weapon that I should be keeping an eye out for?

So at some point (I think while I was in
Drangleic Castle
the
bonfire travel menu
started showing
greyed out placeholders for the bonfires I haven't found yet.
Is there a particular reason/trigger for that? Doesn't matter, just curious.

I think Halberd is pretty good when upgraded. That is what i use at least, Halberd +10.

I think it just shows that there is one or several of bonfires that you have missed. I missed a few myself.

Smelter Demon:

I fucking almost had him, the first time I tried out the Dark Pine Resin. He went down twice as fast. Then he did his explosion thing and I was just one step too close. Bah!

Second time, I thought, "okay, I know I can handle him, let's turn human" and I noticed a summon sign. I thought, "why not." Fucking summons are messing with my strategy. I find that this happens more often; I prefer soloing bosses after a time, so I can roll any way I want to. Damnit now I'm out of Dark Pine Resins and back to getting obliterated :(.

Any where I can get more Dark Pine Resins?

ALso, I've killed all the Alonne Knights, and no blacksteel Katana so far :(

Is the SilverCat Ring essential to get
to those platforms in the gutter? Or can you survive the drop with higher HP?

Really want to find the key which will give me access to loads of the areas of
Cardinal Tower

Messed around with the Halberd a little. Don't like the move set. Was thinking of trying the Dragonslayer's Crescent Axe

I miss the fact that you can't easily upgrade multiple weapons now, Chuncks are annoying to get, and twinkeling titanite seems extremly rare ass well. I want to try more weapons, but it's annoying i can't get them past +6, and forget about weapons needing twinkelsprinkel. I already spent the ones i got.
Maybe i should hunt down some crystal lizzards.

Is there a good place to restock on torches, either farming or buying from an NPC? (Spoilers if necessary).

I know there are mobs that drop them in H
untsman's copse
, but there's not enough of them to effeciently farm.

And the lizards drop aren't all that great in the early areas. They definitely toned down the upgrade stones drops which sucks.

Man that sucks, I just beat him yesterday. My first time I got pretty close and thought, "hey that's not so bad", then he proceeded to mop the floor with me over and over again. I actually used gold pine resin and got him down to about a pixel of life and him stunned. I accidentally pressed item use (complete brain fart) instead of attack and started drinking a flask, when he came to and did his
diving sword attack, followed by fire AOE
. Died many times after that until I finally beat him using nothing but well timed rolls to avoid his attacks. I didn't have the
Gyrm Shield to block his fire attacks
, so I preferred to not really use a shield for most of the fight unless I wasn't able to roll away fast enough.

Do note, there's a
bonfire right after you beat him. If you go back down after sitting at the bonfire, a Pursuer clone materializes, who is pretty hard. Had to be super patient with him, but he gives you a Ring of Blades + 1 if you beat him.

Dude not a bug.
You need to lure and kill one of the endlessly respawning enemies so he dies RIGHT NEXT to the other statue (the one that isn't holding the vase), it will absorb the enemies soul and activate the door.

Had to summon two guys to help me beat the
Ruin Sentinels
. Cuz fuck them and their stupid ass spinning attacks. First time I summoned people in a Souls game. It was fun.

I summoned a LOT in this game, after having never summoned a human player before in the previous games.

I'm going to try and not summon for new game + though... But we'll see how I go. I've only beaten D
ragonrider
and D
ragonslayer
so far and they weren't too bad. I'm really enjoying the additional
phantoms
that are scattered around the place, really keeps me on my toes.

Whoa didnt know that. Gonna try it tonight

There is a relatively easy way to stay human most/all of the time if you want to use it. Get the
Ring of Life Protection in No Mans Warf it is behind a bookcase there you need to smash early in the level on the left hand side buildings off the main stairs going up. It will break when you die but you will stay human and keep your souls. It can then be repaired by the blacksmith in town for 3k souls. Just coop a few times to get yourself a pool of souls and you can stay human for as long as you want. Just make sure you always have enough to repair the ring.

I found a path leading to
Belfry Luna
in
Lost Bastille
with a midget from
Bell Covenant
. Does this guy attack me if I venture deeper in without joining?

I've done all of this. Yes, I killed them RIGHT NEXT to the statue and it still won't work (even though it worked for the other statue). I've seen videos of people doing the exact same thing and it works for them. =/
