You guys talking about grey phantoms? Cause I just closed the door and stayed on the bridge until my invader left, haha

Another question: I see a lot of people rocking non-elemental weapons (lots of Bastard Sword +10's and Longsword +5's etc.). Is there any reason one would not prefer having an element added to their weapon?

I don't have any INT or FAITH so elemental is useless because it lowers my scaling from DEX and STR.
And i'm used to doing pure physical damage only from DS1.

Played like 6 hours yesterday after I got home from work. Really liking my new setup up stats as a pure Sorcerer with lot of Int/Faith stat. I do so much damage via lightning now. I one-shot those armor guys in Iron Keep. Getting a good bit of souls from that area. Might try to reset the area with a bonfire ascetic after I beat that first boss to get more souls. though might just do co-op in the area instead.

Feels kinda weird to literally dump my extra armor protection for more light weight (and skimpy :P ) armor set. Currently going after Desert Sorceress set (the female pyromancers that don't wear much). Good thing I have the hood & top already, the hood gives me +3 int or so apparently. Still using old cuflings and pants that weigh a lot. So I plan to eventually dump those for something light so I'm much faster in my rolls.

Arch, NO one seems to be doing that on any summon I get. Almost instantly poisoned on boss and we all die.

LOL, I never found this on my first playthrough either. Hard to fault people for not finding this, as there is nothing else in the game you can burn like this. I beat her solo in the poison anyway. The worst part isn't the poison, its that she also constantly heals every second.

Started a new sorcerer and I'm having a fairly tough time. 3 or 4 bosses down. Using my dagger on some mobs to save casts; what's a good early dex weapon? Might go INT/FAI or INT/DEX. I'm not sure. I never do pure casters in these games.

I still have so much more I haven't done on my first character but I kinda want to bring him into NG+.

I found it after dying a ton of times and convincing myself that there must be a way to
do something about the poison

Messed around with the Halberd a little. Don't like the move set. Was thinking of trying the Dragonslayer's Crescent Axe
Yeah, the Halberd is maybe a bit slow, but at least it gives good damage and fairly good range :) I'm not that familiar with the axes in the games, so i dont know, sorry. Maybe a spear will be good too for some range, but its also a bit of a slower weapon.

Harvest Valley ambush with all those hookmen was fucking shit. Really bad design imo. You have almost no space and they just mob you to death.

I've already been through that area and don't remember that ambush. Then again I went through it with the help of jolly co-op so maybe that's why it was easier? Or is it a side area? If it is, this game man. So big and so awesome.

After helping a ton of people with Sinner and noone at all had the room light up I wasn't about to try to get summoned for that boss knowing it would be the same.

Grey phantoms can open that door, so don't know why he would leave.

I think he just didn't know where I was, since the door appeared to never be opened.

Adding an element generally wrecks the stat scaling and lowers the base damage a bit too, trading for the elemental scaling (faith, int, etc).

Ah, good to know. I just raised my Heide Sword to +2 and it was doing less damage than a Longsword, so maybe I'll just sacrifice the element.

I've done all of this. Yes, I killed them RIGHT NEXT to the statue and it still won't work (even though it worked for the other statue). I've seen videos of people doing the exact same thing and it works for them. =/
Then i dont know, sorry :\ The only advice i can think of is to keep on trying and maybe beat the enemies quicker. Hopefully its not a bug, that would suck big time.

I've done
Aldias Keep. I've done the memories I have all four great souls and all four giant souls... Where do I go?
Back to
Drangleic Castle's first bonfire. Near that, there is a door that's unlocked with the King's Ring.
I think.
That is correct, go to that place :)

Its growing on me. The AOE it can pull off is useful for crowding. Just about to make mine lighting based on my Cleric.

Has decent stamnia blocking or poise staggering. Not sure what you call it when you stagger an enemy. Guess staggering will do lol.

NO one seems to be doing that on any summon I get. Almost instantly poisoned on boss and we all die.

I got summoned once there and it took me five minutes straight of
lighting my torch and putting it out
and pointing at the host and
running to the windmill
over and over before he got it.

To be fair, it is a bit cryptic. I missed it the first time too. Someone showed it to me when I summoned at the central bonfire.

I prob would have missed it too if I didn't see someone here say it the other day. So I was prepared. I'm sure the two I summoned (Praise The Sun) were pleased as well.

Whoop whoop! Got the game as a gift! :D

Won't have to wait until I have money to play it! PRAISE THE SUN!

Is there any agreement on which of the starting gifts is the best choice?

I'm still using the fire longsword, I haven't wanted to put any further stats into STR/DEX so I think I'm at 10/9 which is what is needed for that sword iirc and I begrudgingly put those few points into STR/DEX because the dagger just wasn't cutting it. Still using the leather shield too, don't have the stats for anything with 100% physical block. I want a better weapon but can't find one without pumping STR/DEX and can't make a magic weapon yet, so just making do.

On the warp screen
what's the area between Huntsman Copse and Harvest Valley and how do I get there?

Sad to see that I have only four areas left. I guess it's been a really huge and diverse set of locations already though.

Why would one even use the small soapstone? The timer is so short and it cuts down even more after each kill. You barely even get 5 minutes of time using it and the reward is almost pointless. The only place to use one would be near a boss fog gate and even then there's no telling whether the summoned shade would disappear in the middle of the battle so people would probably choose to summon phantoms using the full soapstone instead.

Yep. I'm still rocking that fire longsword as well. Though I think I am now able to make a element weapon. So I will likely go back and farm some longswords and make a lightning longsword or so.

Almost every boss I've faced recently (Smelter, Iron King, etc) has been so annoying that I just can't be bothered to put my sign down anymore. Host dies and it's just a waste of everyone's time. Really itching for another good co-op boss so I can grind some sunlight medals.

DARK SOULS CO-OP WITH FRIENDS

Maybe this could even be it's own thread but I'll start from here. I had some success with co-oping with friends in Dark Souls and they have said they want to try again.

So I want to ask for your tips if you have done this in the past. So far I know this...

- you have to be close in Soul Level, the closer the better.
- if you are apart of the same covenant it is more likely.
- you obviously have to coordinate and be at the same spot in the game.
- I believe there is a ring you find early on that improves your chances

Is an out of the way spot better to see a familiar summon sign than near a bonfire? Any other techniques people know or have learned through play?

So what are the reasons that the White Soapstone is randomly unusable? I'm most recently seeing it like this at the Door of Pharros bonfire right before
Royal Rat Authority
. Does it have something to do with the area being a PVP summon area or something like that?

You can't summon there on account of it being a PvP arena.
If you could summon allies there it'd be pretty hopeless for the poor bastards getting ratted. Three opponents and having all the enemies in the level hostile would be like being trapped in a circle of hell.

Been answered before but:

-small soapstone summons you as a shade
-longer range of movement, can help with some of the enemies in the area
-get smooth and silky stones as reward
-short timer and you despawn after a few kills

-large summons you as a phantom
-get tokens of fidelity as a reward
-can generally only place outside boss doors I think?

Spent whole day doing boss co-op for
the dukes dear freja
only failed once due to host been one shotted by laser.

Every time win keep doing the welcome

Co-op range is a function of Soul Memory now (a number you can see in the upper right corner of the player menu), not your level:

http://support.namcobandaigames.com...---im-having-trouble-with-summoningsinvasions

But I think people have tested it and found it to be more lenient than that.

Not sure if that's right. I've summoned white phantoms at the beginning of some areas. I went through Hunstmans Copse with two white phantoms and they disappeared as usual after the boss fight.

Shades can also be summoned even when the boss of the area is already dead. Since invasions can now occur when the boss is dead small summon signs and the Blue Sentinels are the only way for someone who gets invaded while backtracking for items or something to bring in allies.

And you can place large signs anywhere, same as the small sign.

If you are too far apart concerning the Soul Memeory, it's not going to work. I think about 50k +-.

Can I just say I love this series and game? It always seems to start out a little slow, then about two hours in, it sinks it's teeth in you and doesn't let go. It's also like an abusive relationship. "Fuck you, stupid game! *turns it off* then turning it back on 30 minutes later for more abuse.

I'm almost halfway through the game and I'm still using the Fire Longsword I picked up at the start. It's also pretty easy upgrading it +10 early on in the game getting your chunks from Bell Fry invasions and using the slab from the hidden room in the Forest of The Fallen Giants..

It's like a much beter equivalent of the Drake Sword in DS1 lol

Ok, I wasn't sure about that last point. It must have been that you can't summon phantoms after the boss is dead.

what do you mean by longer range of movement? And you can place large soapstone sign anywhere. What good are silky stones? I know you can exchange them for effigies sometimes in that nest in things betwixt

I haven't messed about much with being summoned, so my answers are paraphrased from elsewhere in the thread. Also yeah, the bit about placement was wrong. But it's my understanding that you can only go so far from where you were summoned or something like that? And you just answered your own question as to what they're good for.

I'll probably go with this to start. I want to pump INT/FAI/ATT and get lots of pyro, too... I think I'll go mostly caster with elemental weapons over INT/DEX. I hope it's viable, there seems to be a lot of magic resistant enemies already.

Wasn't a fan of its moveset in DS, haven't tried it in this game yet though.

Well, finished the game. 66 hours, SL139, 466 deaths. Went with a pure dex build, curved swords, katanas, bows and occasionally the black knight halberd when the situation called for it.

Totally loved it, it exceeded my expectations by a long way. It's hard for me to say if I like it more than the first game since that was the first souls game I played and you don't get to have that experience again, but I think game is better in many respects. I thought the changes to the combat are mostly improvements, the level design is better, I enjoyed the story more and this game is just bigger. I'd say it's a little uneven in terms of areas and boss designs but the only time I ever felt really annoyed with the game was one optional boss at the end. Oh, and I absolutely love the armour designs.

Excited for NG+, I can already tell there are some surprises in store from the first few seconds :P

IIn the little hallway where you pull a cord to open a shortcut door.

this is surprisingly easy to miss D:

thanks for responses everyone.

the boss was a total push over, I feel I'm waaay overleveld at 60 something for this level. upgraded Heide sword is stupidly good too.

All right, let's just check out NG+. Yup starting back here... I guess I'll go kill the hippo thing... wait who are those guys? oh god falcon to the face!

Backstabbing seems so much more difficult in this game.

Had zero problems pulling it off in Demons and Dark, but this time around I can only reliably pull it off when I sneak up behind a dude.

Is that intentional?

Also spoilers for bell covenant later game:
If you're a part of the covenant and wear the ring and have both Belfries unlocked, can you be summoned to either? Or so you have to hang out near one or the other?

I think your proximity to a certain tower will dictate which one you are most likely to invade. I hung out in Luna and got summoned there heaps, then went and unlocked Sol and got summoned there a lot while waiting at that Iron Keep bonfire near the bridge. However, just today I did get summoned into Luna from Iron Keep, so I guess you can go anywhere.

yup, the window is way smaller. Parrying is also harder too.

I stumbled across
Drangleic Castle
perhaps too early? I only had two of the large boss souls... Should I go in, or wait until I get all four
I also thought that you could only open the Winter's Shrine once you got all four boss souls, but it was just open for me! What's up with that?

Yep. Players abused it to no end in the previous games. This is actually one of my favorite changes to the combat.
