Random question, without spoiling anything, do you at some point fight the guys with the really cool masks from the original DS2 announcement trailer back in 2012? Because I really want that mask as my armor regardless of how shitty it may be.

The headless enemies in Earthen Peak drop it. Farm them.

Ok, questions about how to get these items, because it's been a while and I still can't manage to get them.

In Lost Bastille,
how do I get the item on the corpse hanging on the wall above McDuff's workshop?

In Earthen Peak,
there's a platform with an item next to a pyromancer/sorceress gaurding it. Is it possible to jump roll over there? Because I've tried multiple times. There's also one like this at the bottom of the well in Majula, I can't seem to make the jumps.

Can you expound upon this?

I'd skimmed over the description for the
Black Pyromancy Glove
a while ago, but it didn't really click in my head when I was deciding which glove to upgrade. Consequently, I looked at the numbers and went with the greater damage output, thinking the BPG was merely a better PG, rather than an alternative
that scales with your hollowness
. Silly mistake!

You have to jump it, hug the left side as there's a little bit of extra ground you can land/jump on.

LOL was fighting
Skeleton Lords
and my controller went dead. Was frantically searching for the usb cable and almost had it connected to my controller when I got run over by
a couple of bonewheel skeles
and died. Yep think I'm done for the night after that.

Just beat the E
arthen Peak
boss
Baneful Queen Mytha
. At first I was like...holy shit, this is gonna be a tough ride. But then I rememebered about the
windmill
, and it made the boss more manageable. Still, I enjoyed this fight, and I think the music for this battle was awesome. It reminded me of the plant boss music from Super Metroid. Great track.

Now on to
Iron Keep
.

Just joined the
Pilgrims of Dark
covenant, and
holy shit it's Havel! Hahaha. Him and I think Ricard (some dude with a rapier) ganked me. :(

I like how the greatsword design is basically Guts' dragonsword from Berserk.

FROM are HUGE Berserk fans, this series is a love letter to it. So many references to the series.

Theres a sword that looks like this?

berserkdragonslayer6.jpg

Its silly to say a large greatsword with a sharp end is suddenly from Berserk becuase its a common design. In fact the only thing that makes Gut's sword differentiable is its colouring. Whats more telling is its story.

In the manga, Godo states that the sword was his greatest creation. It was created by the king's order to slay a dragon (hence its name) with one swing and though he put all his skills into making it, what he created didn't take into account the abilities of normal humans. But it was used at that time (though Godo didn't know how or who used it) to cut a dragon's head in half. Having seen Godo's prowess in sword making, his king sentenced him to hanging thus making him run away and lived in a desolate place.

Its a very similar story to DBS in Demons Souls, created to break the bones of dragons, a blacksmith working in an far away and remote place, the blade being thick and not sharp (almost blunt) is also mentioned iirc.

So, I screwed up major tonight.

I had the Smelter Demon dead to rights, one hit left. Ran in and got one hit KO'd. NOw, I'm farming for Effigy, and got killed. Lost the 22,000+ Souls that were in the room with Smelter ass-face.

:(

So I realized something after the boss at the iron keep and someone correct me if I'm wrong but I've not cut off any enemies tails for weapons once. Probably the only disappointing thing for me. I've read there is a few you can cut but it gives no rewards. Anyone confirm that?

So the numbers are false unless you are actually hollow?? It doesn't seem that way, I maxed mine.

If people are concerned about souls they really should co-op more often (that is, being summoned into someone else's game). The boss at the end of
Iron Keep
will get you 12k souls each time you kill him, and he's quick and easy. Within a fairly short time frame you can net yourself a huge amount of souls. If you drop a small soapstone you'll also get
a smooth and silky stone every time you kill a boss, which you can trade for decent stuff, including the possibility for a Twinkling Titanite.

So I've been helping people with a certain boss, and this one guy summons me, gives me the no way gesture, disconnects and then sends me a message with nothing but "n00b" in it...

Been encountering more kids now that the Souls series is getting more popular lol

Also, the forward+R2 jump attack works wonders in laggy pvp matches.

Can you tell me where I can get it?

NG item only. So you need to burn a bonfire ascetic in the Black Gulch to get the Old One soul from the Rotten.

It has that solid triangular sword design, solid/outlined black/grayish color of the Dragonslayer.
Greatsword looks better imo.

Have a look at it in your equipment screen, dude. Next to its attack rating (220 or so), I had quite a sizeable red '-180' or so. After dying a few times and staying hollow, the negative scaling decreased. So, basically, how hollow you are is proportionate to the extent it draws on its full power... I think.

Can anyone confirm this?

Wow, seriously? That's actually a little upsetting... Haha

One thing I love about the Soul series is the sense of camaraderie and eagerness to help one another. I always made it a habit to send a message and thank whoever helped me, it was great and gave me a sense of sharing the suffering with a stranger. But whatever, try to invade the bastard and smash him, thats all you can do I guess

That might just be because
the Ruin Sentinels are weak to lightning
.

Not really just that. They are also weak against
sorcery, which is why the phantom NPC is a Mage that wrecks them
. Sorcery just doesn't pick up until you're three fourths of the way through the game. In the meantime, you could have divided your points into INT/FA for Hexes that work very similarly to anything Sorcery offers, has more stock per slot and some spells that just outright demolish anything Sorcery can do. Then there's also Pyromancy for Flame Swathe, which pretty much takes bosses down to nothing quickly. Sorcery is just entirely underwhelming aside from like two spells.

Yikes I dont think I can accomplish that right now. Thank you.

FINALLY BEAT THE BASTARD.

22k is pocket change, don't worry too much.

Lol, I hear ya. I'm just like, "...Ahhh!!" over here.

Oooh, ok. I'm about to try and beat him myself. Then I'll be all over that.

So close to the Platinum. Just have to
inherit items. It shouldn't be too bad, just have to hope Benhart can survive one more fight. It's pretty dumb and difficult to get these on NG++, as the AI just stands in front of the boss getting wailed on.

Well I found a fun build to PvP with. I have the Spotted Whip in one hand and the Darkdrift (invisible Katana) in the other. The whip is for laughs but it does build up poison and when they least expect it, I use the charging lung from the Katana and get a sweet poke.

No one takes me seriously cuz of the whip and then BAM secret katana in your face!

Okay, I'm stuck with +7 weapons since I'm offline and there's no way I can farm titanite chunks at Bell Tower. Has anyone met some enemies so I can farm, or a few more chests/pharros stones that drop some chunks? (The last few at
Iron Keep and Earth Peak were fake ones)

I actually died to a whip user the other day. I see him with a whip, he hits me with it ...does no damage. So I laugh and just stand there letting him hit me, and I'm not noticing the poison bar slowly climb. Once I realized i was poisoned it was too late.

Think I had some drop off the dwarf guys in pharros.. but I wear full merchant gear too...

How many of you beat the Sinners Rise boss as soon as you got there? I'm SL60 and feel like this is somewhere I should maybe come back to later, after clearing out Harvest Valley etc.

I got a ton of hate mail in Demons and Dark souls but I have not received a single message yet in dark souls 2 even though I am probably pissing a lot of people off. Maybe if I do more of the belfry luna invading I will get some messages.

Wow didnt realise there was a boss in Pharros.
Will have to go back there tonight then.

I killed one ugly rat along with a red phantom with dual crossbows and a mastadon all in a big watery area. but completely forgot to carry on advancing that way and wentstraight up the stairs.

Yay for more bosses.

yeah it took me a while but I beat him. Tried summoning but that really just messed with my flow. Just be patient, have a 100% shield up and roll like there's free sex coupons down the hill.

I think I'm about halfway, if the total boss count is to be believed. So far there's a lot I like more than Dark Souls, and I'm really super happy with a lot of the changes they've made.

I'm a bit torn on the general aimlessness and more abstract open world this time around though. Much more so than Dark Souls your objective is whimsical, undefined, and the game as a whole more relaxed on where you go and what you do. Delving into the unknown and straying off the path, wondering if you're going the right way, is essential for these kinds of games. But I felt Dark Souls most of the time did a pretty fantastic job of gently guiding you in the "right" direction either by having overly powerful bosses and enemies imply you're in a later game area, the main quest separated into three "acts" of objectives so you had an idea of what you should be doing, and some doors/paths blocked off until you got the right key/trinket/person to open the way. You had plenty of breathing room and were encouraged to explore, but always found yourself naturally on the right path getting shit done.

Comparatively Dark Souls II seems as aimless as you can get. "Get big souls", that's it, and this objective lasts through a major chunk of the game as you eat through boss after boss wondering where you should be going or if you're heading in the right direction. Or if there even is a "right" direction, which there doesn't appear to be. While this seems to be the intention, almost totally disregarding narrative or objectives in favour of a sandbox-like open world of boss hunting with the freedom to kill in any order you want, I'm finding this aimlessness to result in weird difficulty skewering. Like it's super easy to feel the game is following a natural difficulty curve as you eat up bosses in one area, then you realise you missed another area and most of the stuff there is super weak, bosses in particular not all that challenging. Or then a super hard boss is thrown in the mix, and you're not sure if it's necessary to move forward or option or what.

I guess this is maybe the point, the bonfire teleporting encouraging you to do a lot of jumping around, but structurally I'm not sure I like the difficult curve and world pacing as much as Dark Souls, even if I might be enjoying the game as a whole more.

There's something you can get later that you can use to change something in that fight and make it easier.

I hope sorceries pick up, because I feel pretty underwhelmed compared to other characters I've co-oped with. I just helped a guy out with
Ruin Sentinels
and his lightning spear was doing triple the damage of my bolts (INT 25, base staff+4).

Soceries got pretty nerfed in DS2. You can still be really powerful but you only really feel it later in the game. You get the best staff like somewhat near the end of the game and some spells (like soul spear and homing soulmass) have been pretty nerfed. Still spells like Vortex (one of my favorite sorceries) and maybe Soul greatsword are pretty cool. Once you get the best staff for int users though, you'll start kicking more ass with magic.

You mean the
Bastille Key to open up where the torches are?

Already done that, still seems too hard. Maybe I just need to man up. Killed Artorias at SL1 in DS1 after all. Probably just going soft.

Yeh, I felt that this boss was quite a bit easier than Artorias. All you need is a good shield and medium rolling. You can roll past most of her hits pretty easily.

EDIT: Dang, I keep calling it a he, when it's a she, ha ha.

Quit rolling away from the attacks like a pussy and roll into that shit and punish!!!!
