Have they patched how homeward bones work? I have been reading up on a challenge to get through the game without resting at bonfires and just for giggles gave it a go, I thought homeward bone would take me back to
things betwixt
but it sent me back to the last bonfire I lit, but had not rested at,
forest of fallen giants.
later it did it again at
lost bastille
but I definately hadnt rested there.

I'm rolling with a Berserker Blade in one hand, Blacksteel Katana in the other, powerstanced, with the Aurous Helm, amazing Llewellyn chest armor, Llewellyn gloves, and Alonne Knight Leggings.

I look pretty fucking cool, if I do say so myself.

Nice.

I roll with the Berserker Blade, Penal Straightjacket, Imported Manchettes, and Black Leather Boots. Looks quite similar to the look of an Assassin in Fire Emblem.

Lighting a bonfire activates it as a shortcut, no need to rest at it.

You can eventually buy an unlimited quantity of them, but only when you're effectively finished with all non-optional parts of the game.

Okay, they really discourage you to try multiple weapons on your first play through, I hate it.

Choas firestorm is insanely overpowered with a +10 Pyromancer glove.
Fought the
2 dragonslayers
and killed them with one storm each.

Same with the
4 Sentinels
in basement of drangleic castle. I go in there on purpose now aggro all of em then let rip. Easy souls.

Found the abyss covenant, did the first bit need to go back to the other places to use those portals.

Gonna need some effigies though i think.

Best place to get some?

Yes but from what I have experienced and was previously documented by people doing a no bonfire run, lighting a bonfire but not resting at it, didnt change your homeward bone location. If you went through the game and lit a bonfire, yes, if you died you would start there again but if you hadnt rested, a homeward bone would take you back to the first bonfire of the game

the
black dragonrider has like no health lol

Thanks! One last thing, in Bright Co
ve Tseldora? There's this door that's locked after a sand trap and has been bugging me the whole game.. what's up with it?
you get the key to that room at the resolution of pate and creighton's sidequest

Anyone know if red phantoms you summon into your world don't count for the Way of the Blue covenant? Not the Blue Sentinel, the first one you get from the crestfallen guy in town. Want to make sure I didn't break it by killing too many before talking to him again and got stuck on rank 2.

Fuuuuuu S

. Way beyond my equipment. Lowest I can get is about 1/5th health, and that's by using pine resin and playing insanely aggressively. Otherwise it's easily one of my hardest fights in the game so far. Fire eats up my health like you wouldn't believe. Fug.

Beat a bunch of shit over today/yesterday:
Royal
Rat Authority
- Ehh. Fight was a pain until I worked out the weakness. Whole battle seemed a bit sloppy really.
Duke's
Dear Freja
- Took a few goes. Fun enough fight. Crowd control was pretty important.
M
ytha
, the B
aneful Queen
- I have no fucking idea how this would be possible without doing the trick beforehand. Also a pretty simple fight.
C
ovetous
D
emon
- Stumbled into the fight unprepared and won first go. Easy, and kinda dumb.
E
xecutioner's
C
hariot
- Neat trick, decent fight. Again crowd control before the main battle is the key. That and well timed dodges.

Currently going down the hole. I thought the ladder would help. It only just kinda does. Deeper in it's impossible to see and I have no idea where to go or what I'm doing. SWEET.

How easy was it to get the Berserker Blade and Blacksteel Katana?

Relatively easy for me. I got both of those drops within a short time.

Blacksteel Katana should be easier to get in general.

I've heard horror stories though of people farming for hours before the Berserker Blade finally dropped. It's a little different there since you
get that drop from a phantom in Belfry Luna, and he doesn't always spawn. So you have to continuously reset at the bonfire to get him to spawn (fortunately the bonfire is fairly close by), and then he has to actually drop the weapon, so for some people it may take quite a while. I think he does spawn an unlimited amount of times, however, so you shouldn't have to use an ascetic.

Nice one, chief.

Constant successive life gem consumption as soon as the effects of the previous one ends. I think I consumed over 20 killing it without knowing about the trick.

The
Belfry Gargoyles
in the champions covenant has to be the hardest thing I've done so far. The increased damage the enemies can take is a fucking killer in that fight.

I beat that fight without lifegems or the secret, and I just had to go balls out and learn how to punish every single one of her attacks. I had to heal every third attack regardless of whether I actually got hit or not. I actually wish there was no way to drain the poison because it was intense as hell. With the poison drained it just kinda becomes another Souls boss.

Well, I'm done with this playthrough... almost. Killed the last boss, killed all the optional bosses I could find (including K
ing Vendrick
but that took several tries... he's not that hard but if I mess up one roll, I'm dead), except the A
ncient
D
ragon
who still eludes me. So I have yet to move to NG+ because of this fucker. He's not even really fun to fight, but now I'm mad. This guy makes Kalameet and Manus seem like total pushovers. I have to say he's the hardest boss I've ever encountered in all the Souls games, personally. Maybe he's cake using sorcery or hexes, but on dex melee, goddamn. I beat Kalameet and Manus at level 1, but at level 134 I really struggle with this bastard.

Tried several things,
including blocking with a two-handed Gyrm greatshield or just running towards the tail, but I always make one small mistake and die. I can now survive the fire in some circumstances, but then I often get OHKOed by his body smash OR, worse, he fucking lands on me after I recover from the fire. GAH. I wonder how much damage that thing does. I never survived it once, even with stacked HP in body form and the strongest armour I have to still remain below 70%.

Flash sweat DOES work by the way. Cuts the fire damage about in half, which is really not bad (if that happens I heal with one estus and one lifegem to go back at 100% health). Of course it only lasts 90 seconds but hey, if it can save me just once it'll be worth it... I also stacked fire resistant armour and high HP and can sometimes survive the fire even when Flash Sweat has expired, if I'm human or not too hollowed. I have about 42 VIG, the 3rd dragon ring and the Life Ring +2, for about 2095 HP IIRC (my other rings are blade +1 and cloranthy+1, any suggestions for alternatives?). Wearing Argayne's set (highest fire def I found in light armour at least) it appears I can sometimes survive it.

I know, I should just focus on avoiding that stupid fire... and I do try, obviously, but the fight is so long that I invariably make a mistake at some point. :(

I'll fucking get you yet, you beast!

The Fire Creatures in Forest of the Giants are just to fcking overpowerd.
My sword doesnt do damage..........
Try poison

We posting our characters now?

I fucking love this (chest) armour. Maybe because
it felt so good finding it after beating that boss, but I think it genuinely looks awesome. I think I'll start maining it now. When I'm done with the Ancient Dragon, that is.

Ugh really? The only way to get chuncks reliably is trough a covenant is trough a covenant? That's some bulshit. And I'm already at sl110, probably to high for that place.
Nah, there's another way, but you need to be finished with the game, basically;
kill the last boss but don't go in NG+, and Chloanne sells unlimited supplies.

SL 190.

Ancient dragon
takes off about 95 percent of my hp, which is at 1900.
Ouch. Which attack is that? The fire or the stomp? See above for how to survive the fire attack. I'm level 134 and I have more HP than that, so either you use different rings or your VIG is much lower.

Speaking of HP... is there any way to see your current HP in the status menu? It's really annoying, sometimes I wonder if wearing the Life+2 ring is better than the Cling ring or not, and if I have taken damage I'd like to know how much exact HP I have left. At this moment there is no way to know how much damage specific attacks actually do on your character. The other souls games did have this, so why not now? I hope this gets patched.

Weird, isn't that the guy I keep meeting - I saw him last before teh fog room. He made the statement that the fellow lived in the area I mentioned, but I sure haven't seen him anywhere. I even went back to look. Tips? Thanks!

Just picked this up today on 360. Never played a souls game in my life however have watched shit loads on the net.

Where do I begin here? Is there like a default good / noob class?

... I'm scared.

did you find pate in earthen peak?

I thought I found him hanging out right before the fog area, right up the stairs by the bonfire. Was that not him? I can't remember, unless I'm mistaking him for someone else, I thought I met him several times.

Also, the "trade" items you can get from
Straid, the magic, is that the only way to acquire the four or five spells you trade big souls for in the game?
. I keep coming across little things that have bothered me the whole game!

I'm soul level 130, soul memory 2 million (does that effect coop?), what would be a good place to help people out? I'm putting my sign down at the bonfires/boss doors of I
ron
K
eep
, but with little succes.

Have you done
Shrine of Amana
yet? Boss at the end of that is a good summoning spot.

Anyone? Want to get that one out of the way and not sure if it accepts npcs invaders or ones you summoned with a red sign.

The wait for this game was bearable when it was so far away I no longer cared. The DAY it got put on steam my obsessions started and it's become unbearable. God damn PC version. Still a month away!

Just got to
Dragon Aerie
and holy fuck. This is the greatest game ever made.

Time to put it down till Monday though. Wanna play a little Infamous before I go for my Friday, Saturday, Sunday work week.

As a side question, anyone sell Poison Bolts and Poison trowing knives?

The R
oyal Rat Authority
must be one of the worst bosses I've fought in the whole series. Really lazy design and moveset, and those bullshit
toxic rats
that help him at the start just makes things worse.

At least it's a surprisingly good spot for farming
Pharros Stones and Rat Tails. Just have to live long enough to pick them up.

Nope. Actually, now I think about it, I'm kinda stuck. I've got
four special boss souls (The Rotten, Lost Sinner, Old Iron King and Duke's Dear Freja)
. Any hint as were to go next? I think I need to figure out how
to open the 'symbol of the king' doors
, but I can't think of an area I haven't explored yet.

What level did you guys have, when you beat the game?
Am at level 114. Pure quality build.
40 str, 34 dex.
And vig, end, vit. Adp at 20.

And the room after the first bonfire in drangleic castle is kicking my ASS!!

I just got through that section with almost the same build, what weapon are you using?

Reading your comments makes me realise just how insanely massive to game is (and not just pretend Skyrim style massive, actual content).

I've only just beat the Earthen Peak boss at 25 hours in, so much more to do. Exciting!

Seriously, I can't believe it's so far away. Not even a month after console release... a month AND A HALF. IT'S STILL MARCH SOMEHOW.

Well, wrapped up NG+. Didn't take long. Some random thoughts:

Most of the additions in NG+ ended up being black phantom enemies, of both regular enemies and one-time, non-respawning NPCs. They didn't pose much threat - these certainly weren't the dangerous foes that lurked in Demon's Souls. Many of them just felt like they were there to fluff up an otherwise same game, and I felt somewhat let down by it. It's nice that there's new stuff here and there, but I'd expected more for whatever reason, and not getting it - well, whatever. There's some neat additions (like
Freja attacking the player as he explores the Cove
) but it's still distinctly the same game. There's just more of it, as in, more stuff to kill.

Still, enjoyed this run more than the last. Perhaps it has to do with the weird pacing behind caster power progression, where the first half is a slog and the last half is like shooting fish in a barrel. My cleric turned into a lighning slinging, sunlight-blade-buffing god and it was just fun, in a loot whore kinda way, to swag myself out in the best looking armor and just hack through everything in sight with my lightning sword.

Challenge wise, easier with the exception of two encounters. They're both simple in that a single, melee-focused boss is now accompanied by two mobs, but being simple doesn't make them any less of a pain in the ass. One in particular -
Flexile Sentry
- stood out to me due to being backed up by an enemy type that I'd never seen before, and never saw again in the game. Just like the
falconers
that assault you as you start NG+, it struck me as wasteful in a way, especially in a game where one enemy type (Hollow Soldiers) is used over and over through its run. Game could have used some more interesting encounters instead of the usual mob rush by two or three different melee enemies.

I was invaded a few times early on in this run, which was a pleasant change of pace. That quickly stopped, though, and as I went through the game, it was hard to find summons (or be summoned) at all outside of the usual hotspots, like
Iron Keep
. This will change as more people arrive in NG+, I suppose. I stayed at Soul Level 150 all throughout.

My feelings about the game hasn't changed. It's worse than Dark, it's worse than Demon's, the things it does well are almost always offset by the things it messes up in, the world itself is neither inwardly intricate (ala Demon's) or interconnected (Dark), there's never a sense of cohesion behind its art design, the boss encounters are lackluster for the most part both visually and mechanically, and that the last few levels are somewhat of a saving grace, but not quite, in how drab and colorless the world can be.

Also, despite how wordy it is compared to Dark Souls 1, it's never effective in conveying a sense of direction or purpose behind its narrative, and after seeing the ending twice I still have no sense of actually having done anything. I also wasn't a fan of how the lore behind the game seemed to be there more to justify recycled content than anything else. At one point it just stopped being neat as I pondered the implications of a unique
ages-old
rapier being dropped twice by a random pack of giant spiders.

But I enjoyed it enough to play through it twice, so either I'm just obsessed or it's a testament to how solid the foundational stuff is for the series. I mean, I had fun, especially when I was doing MP stuff. I like the variety of options that are almost always available to the player. The new upgrade system is great; I love the addition of dual wielding, even if it isn't really practical save for a few weapon combos; blah blah blah. This is getting too long.

Still fucking annoyed by how I can't melee crystal lizards. Goddamn wonky hitboxes.

Love the Alva armor set so much, especially with the Heide Knight Helm, damn!

Also, (iron keep boss) O

down in round 3. Such an amazing boss design, man. Reminds me of Diablo. :)

Just saw the credits roll...
Even though I truly enjoyed my time with the game now that the main quest is over my feelings about it are a bit mixed. I felt no sense of accomplishment from beeting the final boss (which I did solo) and I don't think Dark Souls 2 will have a lasting impression on me.

Considering how much I adore the previous games, I would love to be much more enthusiastic about this one but I feel like it's missing something. It's very well executed for the most part but it doesn't have that spark of creativity that made the other games feel special...

Anyway, I have a couple of questions regarding the ending and new game plus :

- Are there multiple endings ? The trophies seem to support that there is only one but that seems strange...

- How do you start New Game Plus ? I still have a few optional bosses to kill before I do that but I'd like to know anyway...

Somewhere around the Shrine of Amana, I realised I wasn't actually having fun anymore. :(

I'm through to what must be the last level, based on the bonfire list, and these last few areas have really been a slog.

Estoc +10, claymore +8 and lost sinner sword +3.

Even 2 of the little statue guys kick my ass.

3 hits with a claymore r2 single hand attack should sort them out if your strength is high enough. Claymore is a beast
Line em up and take em all out at once.

Found this area quite straightforward, Beat the
mirror knight and twin dragonslayers
first time.
