Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

So did I. This thread is still the sixth, and it's not yet full.

I fail at my life! I don't know why I kept thinking this thread is being OT6, so I guess I was thinking of those OT6 suggestions.

My bad!

I'm not getting too excited that Phospora has a new model for the Trophy, since she's one of Sakurai's creations I wouldn't be surprised if Kid Icarus gets better treatment in that regard.

Kirby had "new models" for its trophies in Brawl, possibly, although perhaps they may have been left-over from the canceled GCN game.

Kirby also had a lot of extra elbow grease thrown into its remastered music compared to some of the other franchises. In Brawl, anyway.

Yeah, it does seem to be what Sakurai's saying. I must admit, the game does seem to be coming together pretty quickly, given it was only publicly revealed about 9-10 months ago.

It happens. I must apologize too, I think I was harping on that a little too hard :V

Interesting, nice find. Ryce knows Japanese maybe he can take a look at it?

My friend who can read Japanese mentioned that he said it's going smoothly.

I'm glad that it went smoothly for him so far, so I guess they are on the schedule, hopefully they are way ahead of their schedule so no one would get cut.

Not like Sakurai personally composed the music though. Implying he puts more effort into SSB content of his own games than into content representing other franchises doesn't really seem justified IMO.

Are you recording these by chance?

OH thanks Heath! Good to hear.

Poor college student, no capture card.

Best I can do is save the replays and share them or something or have people spectate matches.

If someone's willing to record it that would be helpful.

That would be fantastic for Official Topic or Daily Image OT after they announce Palutena or Dixie. I will add it to the list for future reference.

Edited:

Super Smash Bros. For Wii U & 3DS Thread 6: No Yeah for you today, Mr Sakurai is more likely to happens. Also I already tested and it fit.

When palutena is announced when can ask a mod to change it to super bash sisters

If we get anything hinting at a Palutena confirmation or a new female, I think that thread should get "Super Bash Sisters" as the OT subtitle.

Wasn't this game announced 2 years ago? If this game does comes out this year isn't 2 years of development kinda quick?

Iwata announced the game premature in order in order to get people to applying to work for Smash Team, but it ended up that they are teaming up with Namco-Bandai.

I would assume that they probably started somewhen during April/May 2012.

was announced like 3 years ago, started development 2 years ago, right after kid icarus was done with development infact, 2 to 3 years is average game development.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did preliminary work before Sakurai actually got on the project.

That said considering they have a good chunk of Namco and Nintendo's studios behind it 2 years sounds par for the course. It's kind of funny comparing it to Brawl's insane development timeline.

But the development is going fast due to the fact they have more people with Namco-Bandai on board right?

I just wish... Sakurai would give us tracks like in the Dojo ): the music from Brawl is amazing.

Depends on what you mean by announced. It was announced in 2011 alongside the Wii U. Sakurai had said the announcement was to attract a team to work on it and that it was only kind of in his mind/notebooks at the time.

Then at a Nintendo Direct in...I want to say it was April last year, Bill Trinen announced that Namco was the developing partner on the game, specifically stating that using their resources was the way to get the game out as quickly as they could. The E3 trailer, which was the first footage for the game, came out the following June.

So assuming Sakurai was not just twiddling his thumbs from 2011 to 2013, it's probably safe to say production started in early to mid-2012. As for whether that's enough time, it probably depends on how many people they have working on it and how much content it will have. No SSE mode will cut down on development time a lot. Namco tends to get games out on time. Network testing is probably going to be what takes up most of the last six months.

I wouldn't worry about it being rushed. If Nintendo wanted to rush the game, it'd be out when they needed it, i.e. now or last Christmas.

That trophy background is so much better than the one we got for Big Mac.

Yeah, I'm fond of hues of dark blue/black to light blue and back again.

*Insert handle quote here*

I knew the development of this game was going to be much faster due to Sakurai not running into "holy shit, we need more people" syndrome like what happened when Game Arts had to be called in with Brawl, but I never really thought of how much more work got done in a similar amount of time before Alberto reminded me of how SSE isn't a thing anymore.

I'd say the Namco Bandai team up was the best thing that could have happened for development.

Man, every time this thread starts to talk about development time and a potential release time table I have so many mixed emotions. On the one hand I am REALLY trying to hold out hope that this will release late summer or early fall but my hope is failing me. I mean on one hand it does seem like the new information has been coming at a much more steady and rapid pace than before (with this week being an exception) on the other hand, Nintendo is seriously pissing me off by not announcing a release date or even release time frame. I JUST WANT TO KNOW! Ugh, sorry for my rant, I love Nintendo; I really do, But i'm just really starting to get fed up with their crap. (and I really feel like i've given them the benefit of the doubt longer than most). I'm hoping April Direct can restore some faith in me but I fear it will only push me further away.

Kind of sad how people in the beginning were against Namco Bandai helping Sakurai make SSB4.

I understand your pain man. But hopefully by the time E3 comes around we'll have a date. Heck maybe the next Direct in April will have a date. At least Mario Kart 8 will make the wait easier.

Dont get fed up just because a game doesnt have a release date or not, this is the video game industry afterall. you should be use to this

You know, it's funny. I explicitly remember this being a thing but can't remember specific posts about it. You got any helpful links?

On another note, this reminds me of a more recent declaration I saw on another forum. Someone was using Street Fighter x Tekken as an example of Namco's involvement leading to a sub par final product because he was upset at everyone being excited over the prospect of Namco actually bringing anything decent to the mix.

Mind you most people were excited because of Namco potentially working on Smash4's netcode.

Edit: Viridi is Sakurai's favorite? Neat.

I much rather them, not worrying about making a release date and try to rush. Let then take their time and when they are confident, they'll give us date. Hell if I had my way games wouldn't have release date till a month before lol

I have a Capture Card, but it only outputs HDMI so I want to run a test or 2 to ensure there's no difference between broken and completely broken ;)

Nintendo heard the people's cries about how they lied about Tropical Freeze's release date, and went with a release date announcement tactic that is guaranteed to be completely accurate.

Yep, they're back to their old withhold all information on release date until a week before it comes out tactic again. Here's hoping Smash and the next Zelda don't end up in development delay hell again like their predecessors.

I doubt it, unless nintendo waits till a games done to announce the release date. Its hard to guarantee a release date before a games done.

Really? I wanna see quotes

is Namco Bandai even a good company? or are they in that mediocre group?

i dont think nintendo would want characters that have nothing to do with nintendo in their game. why would they pay another company to advertise for them

NO. This is not good for the future of Super Smash Bros. Because really, do we want Solid Snake AND Sonic removed just to put Pac-Man in their place?? FREAKING PAC-MAN??

Namco Bandai is developing Smash Bros 4?....Oh Dear God were in trouble

You do know Namco Bandai is really picky on their RPGs to be released outside of Japan right? With their kind of practices we might not get Project X Zone and possibly Smash Bros 4

I don't get it....how exactly does Namdai's work on Tekken make them a good choice for Super Smash Brothers? 3D fighting games are quite different, so experience with making those isn't going to matter all that much while making a 2D brawler.

Capcom or SNK would have been a more appropriate choice.

I can't be the only one concerned, surely? Two words: Starfox Assault.

Should have gone with Capcom, now they know fighters.......

this. This doesnt bring me much confidence if namco bandai has a hand in it. Though if sakurai is still in charge then i cant complain that much...i wonder why the co development? Maybe they want to speed development up? Maybe nintendo studios need their hands held to the jump for HD... i dunno

This.

If it takes on some of the better qualities of Soul Calibur it could be great. If it takes on any of the bad qualities of Namco Bandai it could be garbage.

hmm... This one doesn't like it when Nintendo's franchise games aren't done by Nintendo. Edit: I realize that Capcom made The Minish Cap, and that F-Zero GX exists, but that doesn't really change my opinion. I never liked The Minish Cap/Sages, nor F-Zero in general. So my statement remains, unchanged.

Will this affect the quality of the games? Hopefully not.

This is bad, namco bandai is involve with the super smash bro, there a chance that this game will be Japan only, since Namco bandai has a record of not releasing games world wide like the tales of games.

Then you have Sakurai saying this: here
"Knock off looking down on them with narrow-minded thinking."

There was a point where Harada had to clarify that Sakurai was in charge of everything: here.
