I can't believe I live in a world where there are big budget movies about the Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America's Winter Soldier arc coming out in the same year.
the best thing about Marvel is the creative freedom they're allowing in these films.
different writers (in some cases) and directors, yet, they are still forming a cohesive universe.

I was totally apathetic to this until I saw that review calling it more a spy thriller than a comic book movie, that actually sounds like it has a lot of promise.

It's very similar to what they've got going on in their comics now, with stuff like Moon Knight (Ellis), Secret Avengers (Kott), Thor (Aaron), Hawkeye (Fraction), and others. Very different styles but all in a coherent universe.
I've been looking forward to this the most ever since they announced it and now that it's so close, it seems like it's taking forever for April 4th to get here. The great reviews aren't helping my anticipation but I can't stop reading them.
I still think they're better off when directors are coming to them rather than the other way around. I think that's how Shane Black and Edgar Wright came into the mix
Good job on the cap 2 directors though from the looks of it . I certainly didn't think they'd have it in them

Everything they are doing should be thoroughly commended. Despite what you think about the quality (I've only been UNentertained a few times personally) it's fucking amazing that we are witnessing this. It's insane.
They're making a goddamn Guardians of the Galaxy movie. I didn't even know that franchise existed until a few months ago.
The thing about the Marvel production line is that they don't really need people with years and years of feature filmmaking and tech-heavy experience under their belts; they already have all the people and resources in place for that. Which is why they can make seemingly off-beat choices for their directors, because all that's really required of them is their storytelling sensibilities and whether or not they're a good mesh for the characters.
I seriously cannot wait for him and Winter to throw down. Gonna be gloooooorious.
Phase 2 is gonna be golden. If they keep this kind of momentum and roll directly into Avengers2 i'm gonna be in MCU heaven... Ultron is going to be straight up amazing.
I'm curious tho... what is the reasoning behind say - Iron Man or even more directly (because SHIELD) Hawkeye not being in this film? If they can maneuver some of the shared universe pitfalls properly i'm gonna just stop hoping and wondering about their plans/directions for this universe and just jump in deep with trust. Feige is god tier at this point... So fucking proud of Marvel for coming in and just showing everyone how to do this right. Really wish FOX and all the rest of the c-class wannabe studios would quit holding their properties hostage. I know there is no respect or honor in hollywood and it's all just a green machine but still... the goodwill they would garner by either slashing a buyout price would be monumental. Won't happen but ... no one is going to do this like Marvel can. This whole one universe concept will live and die on Marvel's back.
I haven't been bothered by the lack of other Avengers appearing in phase 2 films, but the absence of Hawkeye in this film makes no sense, he isn't even mentioned

Well, it happened during Avengers as well. Hell, Marvel even had a comic made to explain War Machine's absence in New York:
I guess people can't handle the idea that a character might be off doing something else. Yes, Hawkeye would have fit into this movie, but his presence might have cluttered things up a bit. Instead, we can assume he's either off on another mission, or busy taking pizza dog for walksies.
... it's a fucking shared universe man... entirely relevant to wonder where everyone is while SHIELD - the organization that brought them all together in the first place is doin stuff
But you know whatever it's bullshit just ignore it /eyeroll
Forgot about the house party thing from IM3. That actually makes total sense. Banner and Thor as well.. i get their absence.. so really the biggest "wut" here is Hawkeye.
He really should have been in here somewhere. Especially with how they goofed him up hard in Avengers. He has some redemption screen time coming.

is falling apart at the seams and HUNTING DOWN THEIR DE-FACTO LEADER.

As I said before, it hasn't bothered me at all but you have to admit that for a film that heavily deals with the ins and outs of SHIELD, the complete lack of Hawkeye is a little odd. I'm sure they will retroactively mention what he was up to in Avengers 2 or a One-Shot, though.
The plot point was clear enough for anyone to put the pieces together, but it's still one of the big reveals in the movie. Thanks for the edit.
And, yeah, Hawkeye would have worked in the story, but at the same time, Pizza Dog takes precedence. That, or he might be currently in therapy dealing with what happened in the Avengers. And would you really want to call in the one guy who just got through a "betray SHIELD" stint to help with this?
It's not necessarily a bullshit question, since these movies make direct references to the others. At the same time, each movie separates itself easily while keeping within the same universe, like comic books.
The only time I think an Avengers/SHIELD intervention may have been warranted was Malakith's appearance in London trying to unleash the Aether. It ended up being a contained incident in that small area of London (plus the other realms) vs. the entire city like New York in The Avengers. The Dark Elves didn't really pose as big a threat as the Chitauri to require a response team.
