Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

You can see every part of the world you should be able to see in Dark Souls, the world is connected and makes sense. In Dark Souls 2 there are a few vistas like these but generally you just go into a tight tunnel and end up somewhere completely different. The example given above is one of the best, I would love to hear someone try explaining how it makes sense.
Cant that be said about Dark Souls 2 as well, that you can see every area that should be able to see?

Just wondering, what exactly doesnt make sense about that part? I agree that they could maybe had
illuminated the sky a bit red around the windmill
, but besides that?
Iron Keep is a castle that was built using iron that was mined in the mountains around there. But the castle was too heavy, so it sank into the ground, causing lava erruption. You can definitelly see mountains when you're in Harvest Valley.

Wow, some of the areas in the final-ish act are really gorgeous. In particular the top of
Aldias Keep
and then
Dragon Aerie
. I just stood there for a minute or so looking around.

I think
Dragon Aerie
and
dragons
in general are heavily underused. Especially if you consider the promo shots with the
dragon/bridge
.

Near end game spoiler

I just got the key from the ancient dragon, and went to Forest of The Fallen Giants to interact with one of the tree giants. The thing is, i can't seem to be able to get down there, near the second bonfire.

I'm not sure what you are asking? There are
3 trees you can activate. One next to the first turtle you encounter. A second after the pursuer. The third after the Kings door. Which one do you have problems getting to?

Can't get the goddamn dual-wielding phantom to spawn in Belfry Sol. Is there a trick to get him to be there?
I think you need to be in the bell covenant. Playing offline would probably be a good idea too. I just kept resting at the bonfire and checking to see if he was there. Never got any drops before I got bored though.

Which one progress the story?

Man the Gutter just fucking sucks. It really does. It's so poorly designed, it looks like shit too.

Hey sorry, but you have to stop playing recklessly. I'm not the only one giving you tips about the Gutter. Read Teasing_Pink's post. The poison statues only fuck you up if you run straight into them. Take your time and kill them one by one.

Which one progress the story?

Kings door

Has anyone solo'd the gargoyles as a melee character? I don't see how its possible because as soon as you have one of em lined up for an attack you got 3 more that beat the shit out of you from behind and sideways. My poor summoned ally died within seconds after stepping out the mist door :(

I beat them solo with a straight sword and greatshield combo on the first try. Its just being aggressive when you have the chance and turtling like crazy when you're cornered. Use your foot work to make sure you're never getting attacked from two sides.

Wait til you reach the next area after it.

Those exploding guys at sinners rise make me want to throw my damn controller

lol if you raging with those fuckers now tell me how ya feel when you encounter their
upgraded version that can one shot ya
, i think they show up in only one part tough i maybe wrong tough and they show up soemwhere else.

The black gulch is fucking great for farming short and easy, i got 50000 souls in half an hour, thinking of using the ascetic but i'm curious once ya use the ascetic do enemies still have a respawn counter?

Honestly, I would say the same thing about that area aswell. It's not hard at all if you take your time and kill every
statue and worm one by one. The game has way worse enemies that gang on you imho. In here you can atleast controll the spawn rate.

I can't seem to find it in FoTFG, or is it somewhere else?

Second bonfire, down the ladder, cross the bridge

I did it with a Halberd +10 and using a strong shield
(I dont remember the name right now, sorry, but its a bigger shield that has a picture of a sun on it. I upgraded it to +5 or something).
I had a fairly Soul Level when i beat them though, maybe Soul Level 140 or something. It was one of the last bosses that i found. I missed that place completely when i found the bonfire near that area for the first time.

Approach it carefully, use your torch and light all the torches you see. The Gutter is actually my favorite area so far in terms of ambiance. Everything in there is slow, too, so just take your time and all the enemies are pretty easy. My first attempt at that place I made it to the fog-door at the top of the tower no problem.

I helped out a few people in there and noticed most of their torches weren't lit. In that area that just seems crazy.

going through some stuff I still haven't figured out how you open the door
down the well/majula
or the one in
shrine of amana
. do you need a specific key, ring, gender to do that or something?

Well: you need to get a key in Black Gulch. Second bonfire, hug the left cliff. After about 5-10 seconds you can drop down - you should see some signs. Drop down again and kill those 2 giants and get the key.

Shrine is actually pretty cool and sucks to get spoiled ;p. You need to be hollow and have no humanity in your inv. Behind it is a shrine to make you human. You can figure it out by reading the key iirc.

That's the only way. Take off your armor if you haven't allready. Run to him, hit his back leg 3 times. Now he either stomps or flies up. Rinse repeat. ALLWAYS stay close to his leg/tail to provoke a stomp. As far as the AOE goes, you just have to get better at dodging it. This might sound cocky, but it's the only way to kill him as a meele imho.

You can block his AOE with the Gyrm greatshield so you don't need to dodge anything.

Definitely agree. Based on that promo, I had assumed
the dragons would have played a bigger role in the game. I'm not sure about their story implications yet. I think the Maiden has something to do with them, but I'm not quite sure what just yet.
In any case, I've only stepped two feet into
Dragon Aerie
, but I love it. :)

Finally beat the game. Another
:S
ending but it's probably because
I don't know about the lore as much yet.

Now to learn all spells for dat platinum!

Can't get the goddamn dual-wielding phantom to spawn in Belfry Sol. Is there a trick to get him to be there?

He popped up for me pretty often, though I never got the Berserker Blade from him (may have to use an Ascetic). I don't think there's any trick, but just go back to the bonfire and try again if you don't see him.

Only problem is that the AoE does 2 ticks followed by the dragon landing on your head. So unless you respecc into a shitload of stamina you'll still die. And even then I would rather use Havel's shield because it draws less stamina.

Trying to tank the fire is just set up to fail imho. At some point you slightly look into the wrong way and die.

Just my experience. Everybody plays different but I couldn't get it to work this way.

Question about the dude
who wants you to kill the ladder guy

I bought the ladder replica to give to him but he said he had sights on a new target. I didn't want to take the risk so i killed him then and there. What happens with that guy if you leave him alive?

spoiler]Second bonfire, down the ladder, cross the bridge[/spoiler]

Bear with me here, still pretty confused.
Down the ladder next to the second bonfire, or is it outside the castle. Which i need to fall down and fight a bunch of undead. Also, which bridge?

Sorry, my idiocity is reaching it's max today. >.>

edit:forget that part. Mixxed something up, sorry :).

Nothing. He asks you to kill other people(which you don't have to, you can buy their items aswell) and then get a reward.

Hey, might be me aswell. ;) The bonfire where you meet the merchant for the first time. Take the ladder in that room as if you go to the pursuer. Instead you cross the small bridge in that room to the other side. From there you can't miss it.

Hahahhaahaha. Sorry. I had to. You'll understand. Trust me.

Nothing. He asks you to kill other people(which you don't have to, you can buy their items aswell) and then get a reward.

Whaaaaat.
Should i totally regret this decision? Or would it have gotten me some totally rad stuff

In something of a reversal, I managed to miss the first bonfire in
The Gutter
with my second character, whereas I managed to miss the second bonfire with my first character. So I've technically been to both bonfires in there at some point, but hell if I could tell you where they are in relation to one another.

For the next game I'm hoping From decides they don't need to
revisit the Valley of Defilement again.
I'm pretty thoroughly ready for them to retire that level archetype.

I was okay with
The Gutter
. Quite liked it actually, at least on my first playthrough, since navigation benefited greatly from
keeping a torch in one hand. There wasn't enough of that in the game. I have 2:30 hours left on my torch with nothing to really use it on.

Black Gulch
, on the other hand, is absolutely abysmal level design. Makes Lost Izalith seem like Tower of Latria.

Dumb question: are there any Dark Souls 2 spoiler podcasts around at the moment?

I would have regretted it. :P

You get some rewards from him for each person you "kill". Note: you don't have to kill any of them to get the items he wants.

Oh yeah I get that. It worked perfectly for me and I beat him on my second try (my shield wasn't upgraded enough on my first try to resist the 2 ticks). I always made sure to be in front of him when he attacked to be on the safe side. It made the fight incredibly simple.

At least TBG is short as hell and had a boss-adjacent bonfire.

Am I seriously the only person to have this much trouble with the Gutter? I feel like I'm doing something wrong. The dogs are just so stupidly overpowered...

I hear ya dude....I got through the area a couple times now, even killed the huge ant queen and made it through one fog door...but died and now I hardly recall how to get back. I inched forward like the advice says, but it takes me a long time, then one wrong move and its back to the drawing board. They purposely made the area difficult to find a path in....I'll do it...later.

As for dogs, they can be poisoned with darts or arrows, they can be kited and they move slow, so keep throwing knives, bombs whatever. I think a shied a spear would work well. Hide behind shield r1 with spear or rapier. Any halberd type weapon with an overhead tomahawk swing like the Old Knight Pike has good reach and will prevent him from hitting you with his swings. I did the first dog near the bonfire so many times he disappeared now! That's another strategy!
