. Dude with the torch is following me. Like I"m cool to be his friend and all but...will the npc go crazy if he walks in the dark behind me?

While I'm pretty forgiving of the odd technical issue in the Souls series, S
hrine

was fucking stupid with its enemy pop-in. To me this is objectively bad level design: built stages larger than the engine optimisation can safely handle enemy distance rendering, and then making a notable portion of those enemies projectile based. You can see and script with walk-back/walk-forward the enemy pop-in. Lazy, sloppy design in my opinion, one that encourages technicality breaking play over actual skill.

Liking the whole dual-wielding mechanic a hell of a lot actually. I appreciate that you can seemingly duel-wield every combination of weapon in the game, even if they can't be powerstanced together. It really can be quite useful simply to have two different 1H movesets available instantly - especially one with say, an R2 thrust vs one with an R2 swipe - and they can each be switched to 2H quickly as well.

I love the fact that 2H weapons can now parry, and certain normal weapons can still parry while dual-wielding if they're in your left hand (like a Falchion). I love that you get three equipment slots in each hand to experiment with and try out different combinations, along with four ring slots (and boo to the people who feel the need to keep a Ring of Life Protection in a slot at all times - live a little!)

The dual-wielding powerstance in general is a great addition. The main combo I go with - Berserker Blade and Blacksteel Katana - does a very nice amount of damage with its powerstance attacks (especially L1, which is hugely effective). The katana L1 powerstance attack is a straight horizontal slash with both swords simultaneously, and it's fast, has quick recovery, reasonable stamina consumption, and does impressive damage. It's one of those moves that really conveys the usefulness of a dual-wielding build, given its speed and burst damage.

At some point I was messing around with the Channeler's Trident in co-op and was surprised to find I could actually powerstance it with the Berserker Blade. I originally thought the weapons had to be in the same class to go into powerstance - that is two katanas, two axes, two curved swords, etc, but that isn't the case. The Trident's attack type is thrust, and the Berserker's is thrust/slash, and they ended up combo'ing together for simultaneous thrust attacks. Very cool.

So I'm interested and curious about the possibilities dual-wielding has. Depending on the weapons you're using, what you give up in defense you really can make up in sheer offensive prowess. I've decimated bosses and PvP opponents alike with dual attacks combined with effective dodging. As someone who predominantly plays the Souls series as a sort of melee glass cannon - able to inflict good damage but not able to take much if I actually get hit, and always trying to dodge instead of block - dual-wielding is just the thing I've been waiting for.

I had some severe criticisms about the game in earlier posts, regarding level and enemy (especially boss) design. And those do still hold. But I'm also a huge fan of some of the core mechanical changes and additions they've made, and if I could retroactively fit them into the previous Souls games I'd do so in a heartbeat. That also includes the bonfire ascetic, which is just phenomenal. The risk/reward element there is quite attractive and well-conceived.

Hmm. Cool. When it hits PC I might make my first run dual wielding, see how it works out in the long turn. That or go mage.

Dang what item are you trying to find lol

Witches Domino Mask. Only magic boosting headpiece in the game. It should be a 10% drop or so with all the bonuses and you get two shots (two mobs) before using the aesthetics. Fucking hateful bullshit.

What's interesting is that I've learned the enemy strenth increases really hit diminishing returns after the 8th cycle. At least as far as HPs go.

Gonna give it a rest and do me up some superhero craziness in inFamous. Playing that game reminds me of how good DS2 SHOULD look if it was on next-gen platforms. PC better not be a sloppy port.

Seriously, f**** the
Iron keep
boss. My weapons do no damage, I cooped it like 20 times, never been able to beat the fuck*r.

All of the other bosses were a cakewalk. I don't get it.

For every person you add in coop its defense increases. Try soloing it until you can roll through all its attacks, and then use a resin on your weapon (poison/dark work well).

Pretty awesome to get invaded by a red phantom that is glowing with what I assume is "I'm high rank" aura, have them dodge all of my magic and then kill them by landing three jump attacks in a row with my magic mace+10.

I lost all my magic and dark resins while cooping. Seriously. And when it's in "fury" mode, I miss one time and I get bazingaa'd :(

I hate the
Giant Lord
boss :( Not able to beat him...

Bait his foot stomp, dodge it, then whack once or twice. Rinse and repeat. Dodge pre-emptively, because if he does the backwards shuffle, you'll eat a lot of shit. If he sweeps his sword, stand directly under him.

he gets tired easily I would just take easy pop shots at him and hid behind the one corner, unless he does "that charging up his hand beam shot thing", that WILL hit you through walls

So this NPC Phantom with a greatsword in front of the fog door
Huntsman's Copse
is decimating me even though I've handled most everything else in the area just fine. Is the game telling me to come back here later or do I just suck?

He's a big bastard. My roommate got him first try, I died to him like 20 times lol. If you're really having trouble try going human and nabbing a summon sign while you attempt to not die.

I just made it to the
castle
and there haven't been any bosses that were harder than orstein and smough from Dark Souls 1. Took me so many trys to win. I had to go search the world in pursuit of more power and go back.

Is V
endrick
worth killing? Like, is there a cheevo or anything?
Yes, its tied to an achievement/trophy. You also get
a Soul of a Giant (which you have to pick up in Shrine of Amana after you'd beaten Vendrick)
. Speaking of that, what is the point of getting a
Soul of a Giant after you have beaten Vendrick? Isnt those pretty much only useful when you're actually fighting Vendrick? Why do you need to get one after you have beaten him?

EDIT: Seems that you get
Soul of the King
, not what i first said, sorry :)

Forget anything good I said about Sh
hrine of Amana. Friggin tired of falling down pits I cant even see while dodging lasers

Pretty sure
you get the Soul of Vendrick in the Shrine of Amana

Two problems: (1) I have Benhart with me and want to keep him alive, and (2) I can't seem to consistently bait his stomp attack. As you say, the shuffle is the attack I can't seem to ever dodge. :(

And my character ain't a caster, so that feels out of the question.

Use the area they give you to your advantage and he's a big pushover.

Start by sprinting to the alcove on the right. Stay there and be sure to move from the beam that goes through the wall until he submerges. As soon as he does, sprint to the far end (near the entrance), which forces him to pop out right there, and when he does, run back to the other side. If he does his fire attack, move behind the wall (alcove mentioned above) and move back out in the open after. Then, when he does his beam, roll out of the way (forward-left roll is best) and pound on his hand/arm for 2-3 attacks. Rinse and repeat. If you don't hide behind the wall very often, he won't submerge much...so, just use the wall for the fire attack when needed. If he submerges again, redo the above process. It takes very little time.

Also, do not lock on him. It will fuck you up. The key is to get him to that far (entrance) side. Once you do, you can do it this way without taking damage at all...it's a very simple fight.

Hope that makes sense...

I repeatedly lured him out onto the bridge and just shot arrows at him until he went back to his original position. Rinse, repeat until his HP is low enough for you to risk melee.

Guys, hows the framerate on the PS3?
My thirst for this game is reaching "real" levels, I don't think I can wait for the PC version.

What the fuck From. It's like they sat down and decided to make the most annoying area ever. Praise the Sun that this area is short.

Smelter Demon
or
Old Iron King
?

To be honest, both were pretty easy.
Smelter Demons
charge up attack was the only way to catch me off guard and the Lava hole in
Old Iron Kings
arena got me once. Other than that they aren't exactly hard.

so red tearstone ring is the only option for hypermoding and they even nerfed it?

in dark souls 1 you got +50% damage at <20% health.

now it ist +20% damage when HP is below 30%.

wtf?

Second time me and a boss killed each other at the same time. First
Old Iron King
, then
Velstadt
. And of course it doesn't count. And human phantoms seem to be rather hard to come by in the crypt.

Is it just me or does this game actively try to get you to erase your messages? Like you put a message down, then five seconds later three more appear and they all say the same thing as yours, rated 50 times. What exactly is this supposed to make me feel? My message is wholly useless and unnecessary? Or "Good job, these other messages that say the same thing have been upvoted 50 times." Starting to get on my nerves either way.

Grats! Please share what made
Smith for Life
pop for you. Thanks!

Thanks, I actually got that trophy without trying. From what it seems, you need to spend a bunch of money on him, think people were saying around 15k souls. Also make sure to get the ember, infuse/upgrade a weapon etc. Then when you talk to him he should give you his hammer. Also light the torch in the room, not sure it that matters, but doesn't hurt to do that as well.

so, when I am at 50% health, the dark pyro hand has max scaling?
I'm curious about this as well. Is there any reason to use the regular pyro hand? I'm pretty much always fully hollowed. Does the normal one get a lot better as you upgrade it?

You know, Door of Pharos is kinda a BS area due to the constant summoning.. I wouldn't mind it if it didn't summoned you in the exact same place every time. A few times the host was just standing over me to kill me. Kinda shitty how that is laid out. I hope they fix that so you spawn randomly in the area, not the exact damn same area.. Esp as most hosts are on that nearby mount where they can move freely.

On the plus side: Is a nice way to get souls with no consequences to dieing. Do even though I still think it's BD, still nice to teach the world host a lesson.

I just got to that too

i'm not sure either...

I got him down to about 50% on my second attempt. Doesn't seem like you can summon for it. He's not bad really, it's just dark as fuck in that room and if he gets up against the wall dodging is awkward. On the opposite side from the direction he sweeps his sword seems to be a pretty safe spot.
