Rat authority
is easily the stupidest boss fight in this entire game. The least creative decision in any aspect of this game.

Mastodon Greatsword, Persuer's Ultra Greatsword, Large Club, Demon's Great Hammer, or many of the various Halberds have pretty good STR scaling. The best weapons in the end though are just those that have movesets you enjoy, and you happen to be able to kill enemies without any issues with.

For DEX, it's mainly just Katanas, Spears, Scythes and Pikes. Estoc is pretty nice if you like the Claymore. It has a similar moveset, but it's much faster (while doing less damage per hit).

One of the best PvE weapons that has no scaling though would be the Santier's Spear. It's pretty easy to get, but you need to do something particular to it to get the "real" version of the weapon. It ends up being a weapon with a moveset that's a combination of a twinblade and a halberd, with some crazy reach.

Don't overlook the plain mace! Good damage, great scaling, fast attacks and, unlike most STR weapons, light!

The lowest of INT and FAI raises dark

That's one way of looking at it. It's just like INT/FA in that for those stats, every two points you put into them raises your Fire and Magic or Lightning bonus. But with Dark it's just one point in INT and then the next in FA. So you basically want both INT and FA to be equal when trying to maximize Dark, which stops scaling well after 30/30.

Don't overlook the plain mace! Good damage, great scaling, fast attacks and, unlike most STR weapons, light!

True, but maces are so boring. :P
I can't lie though, the mace is one of the reasons the Cleric is the best starting class for a Hexer. Two-handing that at the start makes the early game extremely easy. If you upgrade it even twice, you can three-shot the Heide's knights.

Is there a limit to how many times you can be summoned to help? I'm farming some souls by beating a boss over and over again via summon.

If there is it's a large number. I've help kill the same boss 20+ times for souls and sun medals.

Seems to be the balance of having your enemies not always respawn. If you want to farm, help someone else out while you do it.

No man's wharf level design is terrible.
WTF, it's like my favourite area...

Before unlocking Ornifex, make sure to kill all the monsters in the room right before. I opened the door like an idiot and the basilisks killed her D:
Shit, that sucks. I second this advice (Brightcove Tseldora spoilers):
the last time I visited her, I sniped the mages and killed the basilisk, but I neglected some spiders lurking around and while I was merrily browsing her menu they sneaked in and attacked us both. Luckily she didn't die (just took some damage) nor did she aggro, but it gave me quite a scare (especially since they're SPIDERS ewww).

GAF, would you recommend magic or lightening for upping my claymore ?
Depends on your build. If int-based, magic or fire, if faith-based, lightning or dark. If just str/dex, just make it +10.

A lot of the bosses seem like filler,
Covetous demon
etc which I've taken down first try but this
Mytha
battle has completely scuppered me for now.

Is there a limit to how many times you can be summoned to help? I'm farming some souls by beating a boss over and over again via summon.

I've helped kill the Heide's Tower of Flame bosses maybe 25 times total. Same with a few other bosses.
Can you drain the poison in that boss fight in earthen peak?

I was loling so hard the first time I saw covetous demon lol.

yes, you have to torch the spinning windmill thing near the bonfire.

Can you drain the poison in that boss fight in earthen peak?

Yes, but the only way I found out about it was from a note left by another player while online.

You take a torch and burn the base of the windmill that's right outside from the bonfire. You just walk straight out from the bonfire and make a right, up the small ledge next to the base of the shaft.

Goddamn at that faith requirement for Sunlight Spear. 55? Shit, I've got some leveling up to do. Can anyone tell me if it's worth it? Secondly, have I reached the max rank in the Sun covenant by obtaining it?

FA doesn't raise Dark. FA is Lightning and Fire. INT + FA = Dark.

lies
i was a pure battle mage and sometimes FA did increase Dark
if you keep INT and FA equal FA does indeed affect Dark

great lightning spear wrecks everything so i assume sunlight spear would wreck everything even more so

It does 50% more damage than the previous spear. If you don't want to hit 55 FA though, you can always use Skeptic's Spices on it.

The hell are you talking about? I just said it's INT + FA. Not even a few posts back I said that you want to keep them equal. FA alone does nothing to Dark.

oh
allergies must be affecting me lol
damn pollen
edit: good lord youd probably one shot
DarkLurker
with Sunlight spear since it takes about 4 greats to kill him

So I'm not meant to do the skeleton lords after the old dragon rider? I feel like I'm skipping something like in no man's wharf or across that bridge in huntsman's corpse?

Christ, the D

just absolutely wrecked me.

Easiest boss in the game :p

Just stay at range and watch it's attacks, you can roll out of range for all of it and it's pretty wide open for a free hit or two after.

I actually think it's probably the best balanced boss fight in the game. It has no bullshit mechanics at all. There are a lot of bosses that have attack strings that seem random. They do 2 quick successive hits and are left open one time, then another they will do the same combo but throw in a third hit or get out of range then counter your whiff. Lost Sinner is a bastard for that.

yes, you have to torch the spinning windmill thing near the bonfire.

Yeah. It's in the level. Think windmills.

If you want to know exactly how:
A level down from the boss, take a torch to the windmill.

Yes.
From the 2nd bonfire, take your torch and burn the windmill just outside that room on the ledge.
Thanks. That boss kicked my ass the first time I got in there. I've lit up the windmill after that because the message said it but didn't go back to the fog gate as I didn't know what it's effects gonna be. That medusa is dead to me. I got Half health right now but I don't give a fuuccccckkkk lol.

You can do whatever as you find it. If it feels too hard, come back to it.

There's another area you can go to, either from No Man's Wharf or from Forest of the Lost Giants.
Either take the ship from No Man's, or after the Pursuer boss in Forest there's a little nest. Activate it and a bird will take you to that area.

Where can that be obtained? I just got to Drangleic Castle and I've been using the same Lightning Spear since the beginning.

It does 50% more damage than the previous spear. If you don't want to hit 55 FA though, you can always use Skeptic's Spices on it.
Ahhh...I forgot I had that, thanks for reminding me.

Yeah, just beat it on my third try, I had to wrap my head about it's
invincibility mechanic
. It's one of my favorite bosses of the game so far.

EDIT: pun not intended

How viable are bows as a primary weapon? Bows only is ridiculous to think of, but how about using it as your main with a dex offhand for close encounters? Only downside I see is that you're limited to wood arrows early game for your infinite resource. Are there any vendors that have unlimited amounts of the better arrows?

Man, the game is trivially easy with a mace and a greatshield. Strike damage is way too effective.

Definitely. I remember going to Heide's Tower for the first time on my sorc. Doing like 60 damage a soul arrow. Switched to a sword I picked up. 70 damage. Switched to a club. 280 damage a hit. lol

Just had a PvP match, how the hell do I get around a tower shield's guard if I'm playing as a melee only character?! Kick? They just kept backing away and the kick was too slow. I killed them only taking one hit, but that's because he kept trying to walk around me and occasionally rotated on the spot, giving me two easy backstabs!

I know all about lost Bastille I went exploring after I found it and got to the ruin sentinels.

I've just been farming so I can use the old knight greatsword or the drangelic one at some point. So I'm thinking of no man's wharf as I've pretty much one shot everything in the huntsman's corspe with a +3 bastard sword. Other than the guy in the pool or the duel wielding scythe guys.

Can anyone tell me when you generally will get your first Katana? I ran Uchi/Iaito in DS1 and want to do it again here, but I feel like I'm pretty far in (about 35 hours or so) and still haven't seen one. Currently using a Longsword +5 for lack of anything else. Also have a Firesword+3 as a backup, but I've got like no points in Int/Faith so it's not to great with that scaling.

Still waiting.... PC version....

THE HYPE TRAIN NEVER STOPS!!! NOW DANCE!

Wow...Forbidden Sun killed
Darklurker
in .01 second.
Easiest optional boss ever if you have a lvl 10 pyro hand.
Took less than 2mins, and less than 5 humanities to try him out.
Flame Swivelx2+Firestorm+Forbidden Sun=GG

at
Iron Keep
, one as a random drop off the enemies there, and one
sold by a merchant that you unlock with a item found there

I'm also planning of building a ADP/DEX character. But I don't know how significant can ADP make bow draw speed must quicker. If it's really quick to a point you can fire like 3 arrows per second then I might build one.

After a short hiatus I beat the game. Another shitty ending...
Take the throne and do what!? And I still don't know who the Herald even was.

you will get access to two katanas.

You missed
a blacksmith
who sells a katana.

I got my first katanas both around 30 hours in.

Item/Location Spoilers:
Got the blacksteel katana (which is essentially an improved Iiato) as a drop from the alonne knights in the iron keep and then the Uchi shortly after from the Blacksmith in Bastille after giving him the dull ember (also found in the iron keep)

That's odd, because they don't disappear just because they died. She should have had her summon sign back up when you went to rest, yea. I guess travel from one area and back, make sure you didn't lose humanity, you didn't mistakenly go to the wrong area to summon as that area is kinda long and winding...yada yada. Because otherwise that wouldn't have permakilled her. Hope it was just a temp glitch or something!

Yeah it's really odd am human and I know it's the spot cause the handle to raise the gate is there and the gate is raised. I tried dying and fighting my way back and she's not there any more. I don't know if I found some kinda strange bug

Man, I'm loving PvP now that I've obtained Homing Soul Mass and Soul Shower. It was real difficult to control spacing when I just had a bunch of arrows before, but now I feel like I'm in the dominant position most of the time.

Had a PvP a few minutes ago where warrior guy was running away from me for literally 10-15 minutes while I tried to snipe him with magic using my binoculars, throwing daggers at me if I just stood still too long and using an Estus Flask if he took too much damage. Guess he was waiting for me to exhaust my magic (which isn't a great strategy 'cause I've got a ton of casts). Ended up killing him anyways with a Soul Spear when he got too confident while aiming to throw a dagger. Felt good.

YOU DEFEATED! Had a blast the whole way through, only 1 or 2 aggravating areas and I can't really say I was stuck for long on anything. 2-handed from start to finish was very entertaining, I may never touch a shield in a souls game again.
