Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U Thread 5: Yarning for Yoshi

Ah, thanks. Having never been a portable gamer, I feel a bit detached from the content that originated on portables. For instance, I could play Radiant Dawn on a console, so I could relate to Ike, but it's like I can't get to know those characters without buying a whole new console.

I drew my top SSB4 desires today.

I'm confused, wheres reggie.

Am I the only one who thinks we won't get Dixie or Ridley?

I personally wouldn't bet against anything, since anything could happen when it comes to first party characters, but I am of this opinion.

I don't think either character will happen in regards to playable characters.

I would agree if default Villager weren't already in the game.
The big difference is that the Villager is the protagonist of the entire Animal Crossing series, so in order to properly represent that IP the Villager needs to be included. There's no real urgency to include Robin since he/she only appears in Awakening -- and even then, Chrom is the "main" character (he appears on the cover and in promotional materials, and he's even featured in Monster Hunter).

That's recognizable as the villager, though. The differences from Villager to Villager are minute and, more to the point, aren't consciously decided by the player (without looking up a face guide). That picture of Robin is only recognizable as Robin to me form the robe. I have no such compunction about labeling the Villager as Villager.

I think it has do with the fact that animal crossing has a distinct artstyle while fire emblem is your standard anime fair.

Mine had red hair, though.

Robin shouldn't be in just because he/she likely wouldn't look like most people's character.

Awakening's animated OP has Robin with his/her hood over their face. Easy solution right there.
Or if you have the 3DS game, let the player be able to sync their character's appearance into Smash 4.
that will never happen

Or just have different costumes resemble the different options...

I think Chrom is more likely but I do think Robin is a possibility - Sakurai DID say he was looking for unique characters this time around (or something along those lines). Chrom ranks pretty damn low on the "original character" meter and, as far as Fire Emblem reps go, Robin is near the top.

I think having the hair color (and maybe even style?) change with each outfit would be a fair compromise for adapting the character edits, with the default "average" faces.

I think Chrom will be a clone of Ike...

In game, they are very different types of characters. Ike is a heavy hitter with a strong sword, and while Chrom is strong as well, I see him more being a Roy type clone based on his sword and fighting style in Awakening

He'll be a faster clone of Ike, IMO.

And Ike will not be cut.

If there's going to be a completely original Fire Emblem character in this game, I think it will be someone other than a Lord.

I will be really disappointed if Sakurai chooses Chrom over Robin. Robin just has so much more potential, and represents the essence of Fire Emblem much better. In fact, Robin could represent the essence of Fire Emblem probably better than any other Fire Emblem character; they wouldn't just be representing Awakening, they'd be representing the series as a whole.

Villagers are similar still, aren't they?

Meanwhile, my Robin was a middle-aged redhead with low shave.

I would really rather not have a character who isn't my Robin as Robin in the game. I think that would be irksome. I also sincerely doubt it will happen, so no worries.
