I think Jay making art a focal point of his career is definitely corny and faux cultured, but Jay has been making references to art ownership his entire career; there are references to picasso, rembrandt etc on his earlier projects Vol 1 and Vol 2 for example.

As far as being the guy who raps about shitting on other dudes for not having what he has, that's the essence of Jay's career; Imaginary Player, Show You How to Do This, etc etc. He's a hustler and that's the centerpoint of his career.
