Not really you had to do it already.....you should know the mechanic.

The funny thing is, I got stuck later in
Drangleic Castle
because I didn't know the mechanic either. I spent like 20 minutes fighting enemies outside and then suddenly the gate opened letting me in. I had absolutely no clue what triggered it, so I assumed it was just killing a certain number of enemies. xD I had to come on here and ask how to progress in that room with the little statue guys and the 6 doors.

Quicker movement? Dark Souls 2? Does not compute(Unless you keep yourself above 50%).

Edit:

Seems to happen so randomly that it seems like one, however I have heard that it could be a random chance to become human every time you're summoned, with the large white soapstone giving you better chances.

Hmm feels like my guy runs faster but perhaps I'm mistake.

I understand that you don't mean it as an insult, I just can't see or understand the pokemon similarities in terms of progression. DS2 is far less linear than pokemon. You can't fight the 3rd gym before the 1st gym in pokemon. In DS2, we don't technically know what the "first" Old One is.

Are you only talking about the physical layout of each distinct area? Or actual game progression?

I think the pacing is similar, even if you make a fair point about badge progression. The way levels are separated and the way you often go off-track to do side shit is similar IMO.

Ok Neogaf I admit. I fucking suck at killing bosses at this game. Already stuck for an hour on
The Rotten One
. Any tips?

Poise is useless in Pvp in 90% of cases. Its like Demons Souls in that regard where everything would stagger you. However there was nowhere near as much stun locking. Thats where ADP and rings like Old Sun ring come in to counteract this. Just watching streams and hardly anyone fishes for back stabs let alone successfully lands one. I think DS2 PvP looks to be better than DkS PvP in that regard. Some nerfs may be needed like some magic spells.
For the first time ever, i love PvP in a souls game. I say that after a lot of PvP in both of the first games also.

I love that melee isn't the only option any more, lots of spells are for PvP like Dark Hail which fans out, or the spells with better tracking, but they require deep stat investments and multiple attunement slots. It really adds to the diversity of opponents you find.

The guard break leading to a counter is great also, really changes how you have to turtle. Shield up to bait a guard break leaves the attacker open, but if timed wrong you can get skewered.

The poise changes are great. They just aren't fully understood yet. It's a combo of weapon and str stats now. High strength can break poise with even small weapons, giving players more options instead of the massive weapons. If you see a guy tossing spells and lightning its a safe bet that is straight swords can't break your poise if you have medium armor. Full heavy armor can still stand toe to toe with big weapons, but its an arms race between the poise and strength.
My dex and str character can break some poise with a long sword. I can always break it with an ultra great sword, unless they are wearing Havel or something as big.

The change to roll distance is awesome. You can out roll spears and halberds if you stat adaptability and keep light armor, but those weapons do far less poise damage, so you can take a hit or two without getting stunned. The long rolls and short rolls at the same speed really changes things up more than the fat roll ever did.

Those are my thoughts after a lot of PvP so far. Lots of new variety in ways to attack and defend.

... Don't get pushed into the fire and back off when he's obviously going to blow up? That's a really slow boss so there's not much I can say other than don't get hit.

The view leading up to and after the G
uardian
D
ragon
fight really is beautiful.

I wish they would have actually done more with landscapes in this game

Beat the game the other day, just have a few questions about stuff other people are doing.
Why are people killing the ancient dragon?
What is the significance of the map in the basement in majula and how do i activate it? I'd rather not know what happens and experience it myself, but i need to know how to activate it too.
I'm returning the game tomorrow (i redbox'd it), what other cool side stuff after you beat the game is cool to experience? Again, no big spoilers please, I'd like to not know what I'm running into but i would like to know how to trigger it.

I think the shield knock is a bit too much. More chip dmg and higher stamina drain would be more fair as now many tanks builds aren't really viable. Crits also do way too much dmg 1.5k-3k and I don't like the backroll at all.

Apart from downgraded animations I would say DS2 PvP is a lot more balanced and fun than DS1. If only the speed was higher it may even be on par with DeS.

Man... helped around ~30-35 dudes fight (mostly win) against Lost Sinner in NG+. Then when I go human I only saw 1 summon sign in 15 minutes of waiting (and I failed to summon him...)

Gave it a try solo, got my ass kicked, thanks to the pyro's. Went to Belfry Luna to get the key so I can light the Lost Sinner boss room up, make it a bit easier... Gargoyles are a bitch in NG+! Again, zero summon signs around and if I wait for a bit I get invaded.

Pain in the butt for me as well. Figure out the rolling for his side sweep attack is the toughest. Roll to the sides on his down attack. Limit your attacks to two swings, dont get greedy and be patient. If you are doing crap damage you can try his arms and they will fall off eventually, but it takes awhile. Good luck and happy rolling.

Who would have thought that it is not the BoB, but the Blue Sentinels that gets annoying with continuous (95% magic wielding(yay)) invasions? If only sin would get cleared on starting ng+...

Sounds like someone should stop being a dirty sinner.

thanks. that's a bit cryptic. i was running around in empty hallways searching for levers the whole time. i wonder what'll happen if you kill them and they don't respawn.

The
spear statues in the rooms in Drangleic Castle with soul-powered mechanisms
never stop respawning. Every time you rest at a bonfire they'll return.

Forever.

The shield knock is the only thing that keeps tank builds balanced. You just have to use more strategy, instead of taking the hits and plowing everyone over. If you take your attack when they try a guard break, they are going to take a few hits and you poise through the shield attack.

I would like to see some chunk damage lowered. I think its lower than the previous games though. I haven't been one shotted with any criticals yet, which was pretty common in the other games, so im pretty happy so far.

So Faith users, what are some good Chimes to go after? I currently only have the original Cleric's Sacred Chime, wondering if there is anything much better to get...

Also, what other spells aside from lightning spear should I go for?

Anyone?

Also, where does Straid go after I unpetrify him?

right in front of his cell. whenever you port to the bonfire you'll aggro the whole room of those suicide bombers... I just run outside, to the end of the bridge where they'll reset and kill most of them with a bow on their way to me and back. then I clean up the rest in melee. 15 times so they won't annoy me (and for a bit of exp). those archers on top of the bridge as well.

I used a Priest's Chime (the name was something like that, A scaling in FAI) once I could access it, and it carried me through the game until I got the Dragon Chime way late in the game.

Worst enemies in the game... I called them "Bellyflops"

Haha, good to see someone else come up with their own names for enemy types. I named the long armed black monsters at the Wharf "Grendels" and the dogs "Chimera"
even though it doesn't breathe fire or have a lion/goat head

Ok, nm.
spider boss
beaten. Pretty funny. I had a NPC summon with a player summon. They were at opposites sides of it so it kept turning around over and over and stamping it's legs so we were able to just wail on it until it died. Love confused AI.
That is the key to that fight. People on opposite sites.

Just beat it after roughly 52 hours. Beat every boss except for
Vendrick and the Ancient Dragon
. I might go back at some point but I've had inFamous for 3 days and haven't touched it due to being addicted to this game. This may very well be my PS3s swan song and will be hard to beat for my GOTY.

So I got a message on my PSN account from someone just saying
"ascetic used." I had used a bonfire ascetic on the cardinal tower fire recently to respawn. How would a player know I did this? Or is it a dev sending me an automated message? More importantly why would such a thing even warrant a message?

I can get behind that I suppose. And now that I think about it, there's a decent comparison to be made between bonfires and pokecenters.

And pokemon can be weirdly mean to its players at times. (I remember in Ruby/Sapphire, I had to navigate every cave in the dark because I missed the NPC that gave you flash. If I remember correctly, he was in a cave, so I thought he was a trainer. So I avoided his line of sight and didn't speak to him. Haha.)

Is it good? Thought about making it but would have to respec for that str req.

I'm mainly a dex build.. just put 20 in str to two hand it. It shoots projectiles very far on it's heavy attack, and causes knockdown. I feel very cheap when I use that..... Overall the curved greatsword category is my favorite, used the murakuma exclusively before that. Now my dragon greatsword does like 700+ damage with magic weapon on it. (I used spice to get greater magic weapon requirements down to 10 int).

Which enemies?

We have similiar builds. I also have a fully upgraded Murakuno but I fucking hate it since for some reason it always decides to spin my character 180 degrees when attacking with it. Screwed me over many duels.

I've been having this problem today too. I've helped probably 20 people each defeat Freja and Flexile Sentry in NG+, and I get summoned almost instantly every time. But when I look for assistance on those same bosses? Not a sign to be found.

I do enjoy people using the prostration gesture in front of me as I'm wearing my full King's Armor set. Bow before me!

Ya it's tracking is a bit wonky... but everything else about it is awesome. Especially the backstep attack. Did you put an element on it? I had lightning on mine, seems to outscale regular unless you have some insane amount of dex.

How do you find faith? Can you do it purely or do you have to support it with Str/Dex and a weapon early on?

Pretty damn powerful once you get a good chime, the dragon chime with the 50 faith requirement is a beast once upgraded to +5 lightning.

Sunlight Spear/Great lightning spear wreck things.

You can pretty much do it purely, maybe a few points in STR/Dex. The starter mace of the cleric is actually OP as hell. 1 point in STR to 1hand it, upgrade to +10 lightning and you don't really need to spend another point on STR or Dex.

I went 20STR/13Dex for the Claymore <3 Currently trying 25/15 to wield the Avelyn +10 lightning, but a little unimpressed by it.
