Unfortunately they made poise nearly worthless this time around.
Yeah, poise was shockingly good in DS1 but here it just feels like you're better off finding a compromise or going light.

And it IS frustrating how relatively little higher defense seems to help. Kind of crazy how frequently you can nearly get one shot even with heavy, high protection armor.

any pvp vets already made up their ring coice?

I'm going for broken Old Sun Ring, 3rd Dragon, Ring of Blades and Ring of Chloranthy. Without Soldier I either need to level up vit up more or I can't wear full Havel (minus the helmet) this time around. :(

Or I replace any of the other rings, but the first two are locked and the other offer nice benefits.

Third dragon ring is my baby. Also, Ring of blades, Chloranthy, +1 Royal soldier.

yes i beat smelder demon i had to summon some dudes but still! I alo made it to drangleic castle guys, welp those
sentinels
are back and they no pushover :(

Is it not worth being a Blue Sentinel? No one is ever calling for my help :( What covenant should I just for the most nonstop action?

Just completed the game! The final battles weren't too difficult, of course after the end game ordeals I put myself through I guess I expected my character to plow through it. Also got enough souls to pay off my sin! :D Now time to pay D
arklurker a visit...

Ya defense seems pretty weird, I could never tell the difference between taking a hit with heavy armor versus light.

No, the cracked blue eye orb lets you invade sinners. You get summoned for help from the covenant ring. Token of Fidelity is for dueling other members of the covenant to earn more orbs.

Yes, you have to be human to invade.

question: is there something I'm missing about these items / chests
on those scorching pieces of rock? No matter how much fire resistance I stack up I die incredibly fast due to the burn damage and there seemingly isn't any kind of ring like the Centipede Demon's in Dark Souls 1 that significantly reduces environmental fire damage. Fire RES armor + ring + Flash Sweat barely made a difference, and despite all of this I don't even get through half of the chest-opening animation before succumbing to the heat. Water from the Pharros Stone contraption doesn't seem to help me for this either, so I'm a bit stumped here as to what I'm supposed to do. I've explored all of the environment too, to my knowledge (both bosses killed, rang the bell in Belfry Sol, pulled the flame statue switch).
Have regen running from a lifestone or miracle before you get on the flame beds. Also chug before overly long animations like opening chests.

I'm running a pure caster build, so I just ended up coming back when I had more HP

I don't know any other way than to wear the most fire resistant armor, fire resistance ring +2, flash sweat, healing water, and perhaps a ring of life regen as well as popping some lifegems before going in the fire. Small orange burrs also increases fire defense.

Very high health would also help. I'm not sure how much is necessary, I haven't got the items myself.

Are you rolling after getting water on your feet/body? I'm pretty sure it makes the effect go away if you roll (not 100% certain on this). On one of the chests, even with water on feet + ring + flash sweat, I had to pop an Estus right before opening the chest, then again afterwards.

Yes, you have to be human to invade.

That's the thing, the ring never summons me to help me. I'd like to help people that are invaded. Are there prerequisites I'm not aware of for the ring to function?

I think you have to be human for that too. Don't feel bad, I dont think many people are getting that to work either. :(

I got summoned once in 40 hours.

move on to ng+, I heard that doesn't factor in soul memory anymore. otherwise the game needs to find an invader AND someone being invaded that match your sl AND sm AND you have to be the one that gets the call (imagine there are quite a few waiting to help). just not happening all that often.

What are fellow melee folks using near the end of the game? What kind of damage do you do?

old sun only for trolling....I hate it :/

the other 2 are right tho

.........I killed it..... on my first try.... ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I have to pay 147,000 souls for sinning to gain some Human Effigies when I ended up only needing 1 of them!? *sigh* Well I finished everything I wanted to do in the main game, guess I need a break before heading to NG+.

that boss will teach you how to use the roll and you will love it. really, there are two ways to beat the boss. Suck it up and learn to dodge or farm the great shield that absorbs 100% physical and fire. (
wyrm great shield @ door of pharros
). Pyromancy that gives fire resi also works as back up, if you screw up your dodge.

I very recently just put on the
Vengarl
set of armor and the Greatsword put my equip load waaaaay up, which has been tripping me up I think. It's extremely hard to dodge with my current standings so it's probably down to going in basically naked, or I'll look into that shield. I do have
Havel's Greatshield
which is a massive fire defense boost for me but that fucker is really heavy and would shoot me into the 100%+ range.

It's one of the most obvious tells ever, too. People need to pay more attention.

It got me probably 30 times before i figured it out. The confusing thing is that he only does the explosion sometimes. So i could never figure out what the tell was, because sometimes he exploded and sometimes he didn't. Finally i realized you just have to get away ANY time he plunges his sword down.

The final stretch of terrain to the last boss relative to the nearest bonfire is the dumbest shit.

Maybe I'll just switch covenants since there is no penalty now.

Hmm, well I'm not done with the game yet, but will keep that in mind. Interesting soul memory is gone from NG+

Hmm, okay. Might've rolled after dipping into the pool of water / cracking those vases, with one of the chests
(towards the room with the lever + Turtle Knights + archers)
being far removed from either source. I'll give it another try later.

2handed I do around 670 or so with a swing of my Blackknight Halberd.

Mace+10. I do pretty good damage, and i like that it swings very fast. Will switch it for the Curved Dragon Greatsword when i get it. I use a Large Club+8 when i need a slow heavy hitter. 50str and 40dex

I wish they made low level invading still pretty accessible. I feel Soul Memory is the correct solution to stopping "twink" builds for invading. Maybe it's simply the vast number of people playing, but having more invaders early in the game would have added a bit more spice to the game rather than the smaller dedicated PvP zones.

The final stretch of terrain to the last boss relative to the nearest bonfire is the dumbest shit.

I dunno. I thought it was fine (and it's a shorter walk than Dark Souls 1's walk to Gwyn). Although waiting for the door to open every time is a bit silly.

Btw: The Sunlight Spear is very much worth it if you can level up to it (or level down that spell). Does so much damage. Killed the optional boss D
arklurker
with like 5 or 6 hits.

I think you have to be human for that too. Don't feel bad, I dont think many people are getting that to work either. :(

I wonder if one of the requirements for stuff like that is location. Specifically where you are currently. So if you are in location X and blue guy in location Y, it may not summon you. Just a theory of course. Perhaps there could be a Soul Memory limit there as well? I hope not.

I did however do a cracked blue orb guilty invasion once where I was summoned from Iron Keep to the No-Mans Wharf place twice. I actually don't think I got anything for winning one of them actually.

What Gorillaz said. I get that they're trying to make it all atmospheric and haunting, but it's mechanically dumb to the point where it almost seems like an oversight. It's not like it's hard or offensive, just a stupidly inefficient time sink. The door being the main culprit. It's like...whyyyyy.

I echo your sentiment, was a tedious exercise every time to have to run through there. Of course, it is nothing compared to the trek to he who shall not be named.

I beat it! Took 71 hours 15 minutes. I enjoyed this much more than Dark Souls 1. The mechanics between different play styles felt a lot more balanced, multiplayer actually works reliably, and the story was almost comprehensible without having to read a wiki. I do think that the first game had overall more memorable boss encounters though.

9/10 - would buy again!

You will never be as cute as my dragon acolyte baby.

lol i tried to poison a guy behind the door to belfry luna and ended up poisoning the covenant NPC! I hope i find the guy who absolves sins soon. Also a couple of asshole from that covenant of justice tried to invade me, guess i had been invading a little too much. Anyway i fucking destroyed them of course, even the guy who invaded me twice in a row when i had 50000 souls on the line. Fucking dicks.

This timed dragon memory shit is awful. You have only a few minutes before you are taken back and hordes of guys are blocking the way.

if you speak about the boss memory
, just run through. they can't cross the bombed off head of the statue anyway.

How often do you invade people? I'm near 80 hours and barely get invaded. Only 3 times, killed them all, esp the last guy was easy. lol. From the sounds of it, really sounds like the invaders are such a small community currently. I wonder if there will be more invaders in NG+

They did this to white gates to up your chances of getting hit when dashing to a boss.

One of the dumbest changes in the game is extending the door opening/white gate animations.

Its really markedly different when you go back to dark souls 1.In areas full of enemies you will 99% get killed in that animation in dark souls 2.
