Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

As a sorcerer I had a Lizard Staff drop off a Necro, I think I might keep it around just for the novelty of waving a lizard on a stick at gigantic monsters.

Had an interesting bug last night, assisting with a difficult boss. Guy who summoned me entered the mist, and I got a message "World master has left the area, returning to your world".

Poor bastard probably got pasted.

Actually, that happens when the world master already has beaten the boss. There is mist before the boss area, and if you try to enter it your phantoms are sent home.

I've been rocking this too on an alt character, and my only quibble about the build is the lack of range... even when I'm close to the enemy punches will sometimes whiff.

yep, the hit detection with caestus' is really spotty, but coupled with the stone ring it works pretty well, provided the enemy can be flinched/staggered

It's dumb. I basically can't play co-op anymore in NG because I have a huge soul memory count from... playing a lot of co-op.

And it may be more feasible to be summoned in NG+ since soul memory is discounted, but the player pool there is undoubtedly much smaller.[/spoiler]

at least NG+ will improve over time, NG will probably just get worse and worse

For people doing NG+[+[+..]], do you end up putting stats past 40 at that point, or does the soft cap still apply? I think this will be my first Souls doing NG+ in and I don't want to mess up my leveling. Is melee still viable the whole way through?

I've always get ganked by two bros at once. Try to do fair fights, but have given up lol. I've noticed many times one guy would run away from me until another invades.

At one time, there was a Blue Apostle in there for some reason. I got killed shortly after.
Another time a guy set up firebombs around me. I didn't last long.
Few times a guy actually use the illusion spell to hide himself in corner of room and then took half of my health when I tried going down the stairs. I'll give him credit, as certainly wasn't expecting that.
Someone else actually did same thing, but was doing it on 1st floor. Unfortunately for him, I saw him transform as well as saw the effects as I went downstairs. So I just let him up with a few Flame Swaths.
Another guy, a warrior, tried to take my out while standing on top of me. Unfortunately for him, I was still spawning, so he was a little early and I was still protected. I lit him up.
A couple used the very top floor as a playground. Little tougher up there when they can draw you out. Though one of my experiences did seem fairly strong/good at PvP. Then again, I do kinda suck at PvP.

What kind of stats do you dump into? What's your general playstyle? While I won't be able to answer your question one way or another, nobody will be able to answer your question without any information of your playstyle.

I'm putting my points into both Strength and Dexterity. I'm using hte Drangleic sword, which scales with both. I'm also using a shield. I do not use any magic at all. I also have 29 of Vitality, so I can equip some medium to heavy stuff. I barely have any points into Endurance and Vigor.

Essentially, I like to mow shit down with swords, is my playstyle.

man i have to get the white ring that makes you look as a white phantom AND the ring that disables invasions notifications, i bet i can troll a lot of people like that.

Pretty proud of myself, I got to the end and only looked like twice on where to go because I was stuck. I haven't beat the game yet though. There are a lot of optional bosses Ive missed and I know theres a lot of items Im still missing.

Also, holy shit, chaos firestorm is OP as all hell. Was doing a lesser boss and he was at half health, I shot off 1 firestorm and it kills him. I just see like 6-7 900 damage ticks and my jaw dropped as the dude just melted. It was awesome.

Soul Geyser spam is worse, as some enemies are quite strong to fire. You can farm the spell too with bonfire aesthetics and even on Ancient Dragon (most HP in the game) it takes like 4 with an Unleash Magic (or Domino Mask) to kill the thing. Literally 4-5 to the back leg and its dead in like 1m. I laughed my ass off when it went down so fast, I was having a bitch of a time with phantoms who just ran around and rolled off the edge of the arena or died in the flames.

Wait, do you mean Grey Phantoms... or white as in the ghosts of other people playing their game ? Because if it's the latter... holy shit. Those From motherfuckers.

He means white as in you look like a normal co-op summon, until they try to kill the host.

aka: Always check your summons! :P

I need those! Sounds like so much fun.

Sounds like some crazy fun lol. I need that since, the ring for the blue apostles is not working for me.

Epic fight. Guy was camping on the top of the bell tower and killed anyone who got on the ladder. My buddy baited him and got killed. While he was distracted I went in and had a duel. The duel lasted almost an hour,I was dodging al his moves, but, he finally got me with a backstab.

Do lightning weapons scale with faith always?

I have a few weapons of each attack type that I like to use, and I was thinking of trying to infuse them all with different properties.

Is the consensus that bleeding is kind of lame? All it does is reduce enemy stamnia right?

I got invaded by two guys at the same time in Belfry Sol and I managed to take out one but the other was turtling on the roof after I got him to very low health. The fucker tried to shoot me with a bow until I tried doing the same thing back to him. I knew he was waiting for me to go up the ladder but I didn't. He eventually left. What a pussy. The guy I beat sent me a nice PSN msg.

Soo, kind of over it now. After fighting my way through the
Abyss Covenant
stuff in NG+, I thought I had all my miracles, hexes, etc sorted. I went onto NG++ with the knowledge that the
Chancellor
will sell the remaining abilities I didnt have from Covenants... I was wrong.

Now I'm facing the prospect of grinding Bell Cov rep on NG++ and I'm not thinking its practical.

I dont know what to do, I'm literally two spells off my platinum, but it seems so far away =\

I need to get to
Shrine of Amana
for my last Pyromancy, and
looking glass knight
is kicking my ass.

I'm SL221 with nearly 10m SM, if anyone could help me at least kill
looking glass
knight I'd be so appreciative!

I was reading the wiki and it said those items appear AFTER you kill the last boss. I have not beat the game yet, so I don't know if killing the last boss ends the game right away or not.

After beating the game, decided to bust open the guide book to see what I've missed. One interesting thing I noticed - there is a summon in the game that doesn't appear in the guide book (unless I am missing something?)

Mytha, the Baneful Queen - can summon Jester Thomas, who will bust out some Pyromancy on her and is kind of hilarious to summon
.. maybe my eyes were deceiving me, but could of swore he moon-walked out of view when the fight was over and de-summoned.

It is pain to even put down a soapstone in the bell tower. You have to sprint through the boss fog gate taking hits from the dwarves, run back in to clear the dwarves, then run down to place your soapstone, and run out of the zone before it locks you in again which will happen at anytime during all that to where you have to run to boss fog again...

Why not coming from Lost Bastille after the first boss, go down the ladder, put the sign on the little bridge go back into lost bastille just shy away from the entrance to the bridge while waiting getting called. No risk to be invaded if you use this method and you are still counted as in the tower domain. (And don't forget to kill the dog first :)). Executes well because I did so with a friend yesterday.

He may have already beaten the boss. You can still summon after you've beaten the boss, but you send any of your phantoms home if you go through the fog again.
Actually, that happens when the world master already has beaten the boss. There is mist before the boss area, and if you try to enter it your phantoms are sent home.
Ah, thanks for the clarfication. So essentially he just wasted my time. Wonderful.

If you are placing down a soapstone, why are you clearing out the bell tower? Unless you mean you are waiting for a soapstone to appear and just clearing out a route.

I didn't think you could place it there, but will definitely try tonight. I usually come from that direction, but oftentimes the fog appears the moment I pass the threshold, then it is a mad dash to the boss fog.

What boss was it for? I've only had that happen to me when dropping my sign in front of the U

boss, but I'm not sure it was necessarily trolling as much as people trying to summon for
Vendrick
.

Because the only way to stop invaders once it has started is to go through the fog gate at the end. Doing that agros the dwarves.

Yeah he was pretty awesome
dual wielding pyro gloves haha

Yes, lightning scales with Faith.

Bleeding does some damage to health too, haven't determined how much yet.

...An hour? With one dude? Either was a sight to behold or like watching a couple dudes circle eachother just taunting. Though I guess that itself could be something in its own right.

You have to put your sign after half way on the bridge. Just put your soapstone into one of your item slots and you will see the point the soapstone is allowed to be set on the ground (grayed: not able to, full color: able to). Then go/run back into the room in lost bastille. Very important you need to see the message on the screen that you are in belfry tower before setting the sign (to be sure to be counted in that area).

Bunch o' Questions:

1. What are the good Faith spells for a STR/FTH user? All I have so far is Lightning Spear

2. Where can I find better chimes? All I have is the starting one you can find in Majula

3. Boss weapons that are good for STR/FTH?

4. For the Bell Covenant/getting Chunks, is it an easy process to go through? All I really want is a bunch of chunks but I haven't even gone through the area yet to get to the covenant. Is it worth the effort?

5. If I'm using lightning weapons, am I better pumping STR or FTH? Also, any general stat advice on where to go from here:

VIG 15
END 20
VIT 20
ATN 13 (? I think, I know I have two slots)
STR 30
DEX 13
ADP 20
INT 3
FTH 26ish?

I sent a phantom home accidentally once. I wasn't sure why the signs were showing up and why the fog gate was back, so I wanted to see what happened.

Some areas have multiple bosses, but you can still summon in the ones that don't, so I guess it's just because you can still be invaded if the boss is dead. It winds up being nearly pointless with how infrequently classic invasions seem to happen in NG

It was for everybody's favorite good time friend the S
melter Demon
.
Maybe he wanted help through the next part and accidentally entered the fog?

Yup, I have yet to be "classically invaded" in DS2 - I messed around with the Bellbros once or twice and trolled the Ratbros/Brodents by running like hell towards the exit.

BROS BROS BROS

Ok, long post of stuff I built up over the weekend.

Question about KV:

I just defeated Velstadt this morning and walk down the hallway to find a very sad looking King Vendrick. I didn't have much time before work, and I have read many times accidentally that KV is an optional boss, so I'm assuming he won't aggro if I walk in since I need to get the king's ring. I see the item on the corpse behind him and wonder if that's it? I was in human form and sitting on 80K souls so I didn't want to just rush into a situation that I didn't properly have time for.

So basically, will he aggro?

Trophy Questions for those who have finished the game or are interested in trophies

I want to try and get as many trophies as possible on my PS3 playthru, but plan on switching to PC permanently once that version comes out, so I know it's not realistic for me to get all of the trophies. I know that hexes, pyromancy and miracles are out of the question, but I want to get as many as I can.

Is it possible to learn all gestures on the first play thru? I have almost 2 rows of them.

I need to discover the covenants of the bloodthirsty and the ancient. I'm assuming I just haven't made it there yet.

Light all the fires on the map in majula. I think it's just killing all the bosses or is it lighting all the bonfires?

Inheriting equipment:

I think I read somewhere that Benahrt and Lucatiel just require themselves to be summoned for 3 successful boss fights, and that using a bonfire ascetic for the same boss counts towards this. Is that correct?

How does it work for the laddersmith, Captain Drummond, and Blacksmith mcduff?

Last question, I have a lot of people in majula now but haven't got the trophy for increasing the population. How many people do you need?
