It's not a lot if you're bad at this game. Goes by quick.

Knowing the despawn will kick in also makes me want to just go ahead and farm the enemies since if I don't make it back to the boss, souls will be gone forever. It doesn't matter in practicality because souls are everywhere, but it definitely encourages farming for me.

Edit: I don't want to escalate this into something bigger than it is though. I do concede that it isn't that dramatic of a difference, and that 15 tries should be plenty to avoid it.

well, ring of life protection, collect souls. and you're golden.

It ruins nothing. Like I said, it's fun to play coop with people. The game allows you to summon 2 guys so people can enjoy it that way if they want. If people want a challenge, they can stick with playing solo or use the Bonfire Ascetic. If people want to enjoy the battles with others, that's a choice they can make. Enjoyment can be had by both sides.

I ran solo in both Demon's and Dark Souls I, but chose to summon on occasion in this one. My experience was most definitely not ruined and I had fun teaming up here and there for a few minutes at a time out of the 80 hours I put into my first play through. It's simply a part of how the game works and I am glad I decided to make some use of it.

Definitely out of Human Effigies now but finally beat the Iron Keep boss while keeping the NPC alive. I've had a pretty good rate of becoming human again after being summoned so the Effigies aren't a huge deal anymore.

Couldn't you just darksign out of the boss if the NPC dies rather than kill yourself?

I don't think it's the speed of drinking that improves, but how quick you can do an action afterwards.

I read that from the Strategy guide. Estus flask +0 until +3 need 2 second to drink, +4 and +5 need 2.5 second to drink.

With max agility you reduce the time of 0.5 second.

I don't understand how people have any difficulty with the royal rat vanguard. It's just a bunch of rats and a slightly stronger rat after a minute.

Just as easy as Sif after you lay waste to the little toxic bastards. No lock-on and just stay underneath him.

I had issue at first, but once I lit up a few Chaos Storms, it really went by easily. Same with the other boss too.

Fuck these two last optional bosses. Won't go into NG+ before beating them though, but it kind of feels like hitting my head against a wall.

As my first character was STR as fuck I think I'm gonna make a new character to 'relax' and spend more time with this amazing game without getting mad over video games. Gonna go with DEX, maybe some dual wielding stuff and perhaps throw some intelligence or faith in there as well.

Can anyone recommend a great dex weapon that's available from quite early on and has decent durability? I was thinking of going with Ricard's Rapier but the durability on that is all kinds of garbage.

I used Ricard's from when I got it and carried a Falchion as backup. Falchion is as good as it always was.

The problem is killing the little rats quickly. If you are relying on a smaller weapon that doesn't have any type of sweeping attack you are basically screwed. You don't have time to kill them all before the big one arrives and you'll probably be toxic by then anyway.

I died quite a few times on that boss using a Falchion but once I switched to an Old Knight Halberd it was easy. Ran in, aggro'd the little bastards, did one two-handed R2 (circular spinning attack) and killed them all. After that I switched back to the Falchion and it was pie.

That fight is all about the first 10 seconds, survive that and your'e golden.

EDIT: Wait... I'm thinking about the other rat boss, Royal Rat Authority. :p

80? I finished the game at twenty. But I play to not get hit.

I meant 80 weight. And I also play to not get hit (in fact many bosses I don't), but do like experimenting with various armor. It's also one of the reasons I barely raised Vigor. That's why I asked what's a good stopping point for the vitality stat.

I feel like I could tell a difference in that too. Not a lot, but a difference. 0.5 seconds is pretty huge, though I doubt either of us had close to max agility. The other part you mentioned, about crisper movement in general, is what I didn't see. I expected to have a much easier time dodge rolling, but I'm not even sure if it helped.

Hugely depends. You could be close to 35%, or as high up as around 75%. This game isn't too linear.

Well, I didn't go down the hole yet, and I didn't remedy the statue blocking the switch near the NPC with the moonlight greatsword.

My bad, still confusing vitality with vigor.

That's awesome! I have to say that I really enjoy how this game handles the NG+ differently than before. I finally beat it last night, and started Journey 2, and was surprised that
in the new Journey, there are new enemies, and many black phantom enemies in new locations. It's very similar to how the black tendency of worlds worked in Demon's Souls. I had actually laid down a summon sign before the Last Sinner and got summoned into someone's game that must have been on this second journey, as everything was much tougher, and there were new BP enemies scattered around. But I hadn't yet beat the game, and when I chose to start journey 2, it said that online was restricted to others that are in Journey 2. So, I am not sure how the system works, because I got summoned into another players just fine while I was still in Journey 1.

Alright. About half way sounds pretty right.
Those two paths are shorter than the two you've gone down
, but you still have a good chunk of game left.

Oh man, NG+ don't fuck around. I'm still on NG, but I burned an aesthetic on the scropion boss to get the +3 attunement slots ring, and even with summons we can't take her down. My soul arrows don't do any damage at all, and I have to be super careful two handing because she nearly one shots me with her normal attacks

They must of used a bonfire acetic.

So yesterday I finished the Dark covenant quests. I essentially went from having 3 bonfire ascetic to have more then 10! Have more then I know what to do with them. lol

I guess I somehow bypassed the Chariot
Boss. Was reading up on where he was.

Me too. Took me a little while to find that boss as well after I read up on it.

Pretty proud of myself, I got to the end and only looked like twice on where to go because I was stuck. I haven't beat the game yet though. There are a lot of optional bosses Ive missed and I know theres a lot of items Im still missing.

Also, holy shit, chaos firestorm is OP as all hell. Was doing a lesser boss and he was at half health, I shot off 1 firestorm and it kills him. I just see like 6-7 900 damage ticks and my jaw dropped as the dude just melted. It was awesome.

fucking finally managed lost sinner @ NG++ difficulty. Total cunt. Needed 2 phantoms to help, and phatoms are rare there at lv 160.

He had probably used a Bonfire Ascetic.

pretty sure soul memory doesn't matter at NG+, but it seems heavily restrictive for your first playthrough

It's dumb. I basically can't play co-op anymore in NG because I have a huge soul memory count from... playing a lot of co-op.

And it may be more feasible to be summoned in NG+ since soul memory is discounted, but the player pool there is undoubtedly much smaller.

I guess I somehow bypassed the Chariot
Boss. Was reading up on where he was.

I missed him too. Fought him late game and killed him easily, then used a bonfire ascetic (so that I could get
the Chloranthy Ring +2
) and he frankly wasn't much more difficult. It has a memorable visual look but it's mostly a gimmick fight. Once
you pull the lever and knock the chariot on its ass, there isn't much to it.

Was a little too eager to move onto NG+ with my main character - lots of optional stuff I didn't do, felt like I should have upgraded more items - bought all the spells/etc, but meh.

Starting to play around with a HEX caster, although feels like I'm spreading my stats around too much at the start, almost feels like I should have focused on either INT or FAITH until a higher level, then start bumping up the other one.

Have managed to clear our
Iron Keep, Lost Sinner
so far - I just haven't had that "uNF damn - thats powerful" feeling yet. Can summon another caster and shit just explodes, where it feels like I'm pushing out 100dmg a pop on bosses.

Have the hexers set, sun staff - so wearing hexers helm + mage lion (yay cast speed) + sun staff. Still find myself falling back to my morning start and/or mace for some melee thought just so I'm not chewing up all of my spell uses on my way to a boss.

Not sure if I want to keep pushing on with my caster, or just play around in NG+ on my other character.

I just to make sure that I can leave and join any covenant I want without consequences right?

Thinking of joining the bell bros -- that's where the most action is from what I gather.

Kinda spoilerish question regarding the reveal trailer:

Has anyone seen those masked dudes in the game? Or did they just change their design for Majikin assassins in Earthen Keep?

It's
the latter. They're the Mannikin assassins. I wear their mask for its good defense to weight ratio, but it looked way better in the trailer.

Where is the sun staff? I got the archdrake staff and now I feel like upgrading that was just a waste of titanite.

For some reason this game isn't grabbing me as much as Dark Souls or Demon's Souls did.

I find that I absolutely *hate* the "no respawns after X kills" mechanic.

I found that it wasn't until mid/late game that DKSII really got it's hooks into me.
Earthen Temple, Iron Keep, Drangelic Castle, Shine of Amana, Undead Crypt, etc

The first few areas are OK, but not 'wow' worthy --- but the last part of the game really impressed me. For me, it was so well done that I didn't mind that it was more of a 'linear path, and not the inter-locking short-cut world of DKSI' -- more Demon's Souls in that way.

Heck I love this game and apparently I haven't even gotten to the best parts... Booyakasha

Need to have 20int/20faith
and talk to the guy near the start of Huntmans Copse that's facing the wall, he will give you the hexer set + staff

Damn, that's where I got the archdrake staff too. Seems like it's like the first game where some staffs just aren't worth using.

Soo, kind of over it now. After fighting my way through the
Abyss Covenant
stuff in NG+, I thought I had all my miracles, hexes, etc sorted. I went onto NG++ with the knowledge that the
Chancellor
will sell the remaining abilities I didnt have from Covenants... I was wrong.

Now I'm facing the prospect of grinding Bell Cov rep on NG++ and I'm not thinking its practical.

I dont know what to do, I'm literally two spells off my platinum, but it seems so far away =\

I need to get to
Shrine of Amana
for my last Pyromancy, and
looking glass knight
is kicking my ass.

I'm SL221 with nearly 10m SM, if anyone could help me at least kill
looking glass
knight I'd be so appreciative!

I missed that completely the first time too.

I think this may be my situation too. I JUST found huntmans copse after all this time, and I still haven't found this crazy chariot area everyone is talking about

Glad I'm not the only one. He was featured in the early trailers so much that I didn't expect him to be an optional boss.

Yep, join or leave at any time. No issues.

Bell Covenant is fun. Though slightly annoying at times when people literally sit on top of you when you spawn.

I heard someone say that you need to be NG+++ for that.

Holy shit i have get this white ring and troll invade people when they summon thinking i'm their buddy!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ne2UlBxs6Y
I'm always amazed how some people genuinely feel the need to add nasty-ass dubstep to just about anything. That audio track was repulsive.

Oh my God, I thought it was just my controller. I died a handful of times because I was holding down Circle, but my character was just walking along like he wasn't about to get consumed by flames.
I think some in here mentioned that there's an intentional delay for sprinting when you completely deplete your stamina bar. Game could've been more clear about that though, like graying the bar out until your ability to run 'recovers' so to speak.

As a sorcerer I had a Lizard Staff drop off a Necro, I think I might keep it around just for the novelty of waving a lizard on a stick at gigantic monsters.

Had an interesting bug last night, assisting with a difficult boss. Guy who summoned me entered the mist, and I got a message "World master has left the area, returning to your world".

Poor bastard probably got pasted.

He may have already beaten the boss. You can still summon after you've beaten the boss, but you send any of your phantoms home if you go through the fog again.

I've always get ganked by two bros at once. Try to do fair fights, but have given up lol. I've noticed many times one guy would run away from me until another invades.
