I was worried about Royal Rat Authority after reading so many people here having trouble with him and I hated the Sif fight in DS1, but I beat him first time no problem with my Fire Longsword just staying underneath him and slashing at the legs.

Build stops at 150. 1 more point will be put into Vitality for one last ring upgrade I'll get in NG+. Remaining 7 points thereafter go into Vigor.

Right Weapon: Uchigatana+10
Left Weapon: Manslayer + 10

Head:Alonne Knight Helm+9
Chest: Alva Armor+9
Hands: Alonne Knight Gauntlets+9
Legs: Alonne Knight Leggings+9

Rings: Old Sun Ring, Third Dragon Ring, Ring of Blades+1, Chloranthy Ring+1

Consumable: Rotten Pine Resin.

Using a Bonfire Ascetic on the bonfire before Skeleton Lords was the best thing I did. Loot:
Clear Bluestone ring +2, ring that raises cast sped with about 100.

So, on my main file I'm a STR build using a greatsword+10 with lightning. But i have been reading that it really benefits from FTH, which I don't have much of. What type of upgrade path is best for a STR build?

edit:
Same here. I wasn't prepared and got nuked. I was expecting the the other guy to pop his head in too. Thank Gwyn he didn't.
ohya, I died the first couple times myself. 1st time was mostly due to shock haha.

I'm making a dexterity build, upgrading vitality (20), endurance(32), dexterity(40) and adaptability(26). Yes, i wasted more than 20 points in endurance. Did i fucked it up? :(

I'm no expert, but from what I've heard, the standard path +10. Then use resins or magic to buff for some extra clout. Infused damage reduces the base physical damage, scuppers scaling and has to go through two sets of defenses.

Depends, really.

I'd say that END is never a wasted stat, since it dictates how many moves you can make without exhausting yourself. You're over the soft cap (2 points per level up to Level 20) but you still get a point per level right up to 40. Is there anything else you'd rather spend those 12 points on that will benefit you more?

I recently respecced out of having 30 Endurance. You only get 10 points of Stamina for that investment, and it just wasn't worth it to me, even when dual wielding. I think the points are much better off in Vigor.

It's your build of course, so I won't say you fucked up. I just wouldn't invest that much personally.

platinum get. Time to trade this fucker in. Lots of good moments, lots of infuriating moments.

It's crazy how an "organic" environment like Shaded woods looks so fucking shit with it's last gen HARSH POLYGONAL EARTH WALLS either side of a flat path, when compared to something like Dragon Aerie that looks fucking brilliant and more natural.

As I'm absolutely shite at PVP, would you guys recommend going offline for
Belfry Luna
?

Not necessary.

You can run past the 3 gray phantom Keepers on the way to the ladder. Once up top the tower, kite around the 2 dudes who aggro after getting up the ladder. You can do so without aggroing the other 2 gray phantoms up here. Then you can pull the lever to ring the bell and challenge the area boss. You only need to do this once, so even if you die thereafter, you can just run for the mist door.

No cable pulling necessary, really.

The best bit about this is that you can wait for a Bellend bro to invade and just pass through the mist door so he suffers all that loading time for nothing.

Yep, I was confronted with this yesterday again, as I was running through the area. That level looks incredibly bad, unbelievable it got in the game at all. Someone photoshopped Leon in there when the screenshots came out, and it's amazing how accurate it turned out to be: those textures are straight RE4-quality.

edit: EC apparently

The contrast between that and Heide's, Aerie, etc is just baffling. Yesterday I did the run up to
Drangleic castle
again as well, just crazy atmospheric.

Ha, I just encountered the
Shaded Woods
for the first time about 30 minutes ago, and the first thing I noticed when looking at the crest of one of the hills that keeps you from straying off the path was the PS2-level texture of the ground

Made some good progress just now

-Beat
The Lost Sinner
first time
-Freed
Rosabeth (forgot that there is another petrified person above The Lost Bastille
)
-Explored a few paths

Immediate aims:

-Explore
Belfry Luna
-Explore
foggy area in Shaded Woods
-Make a start on
Huntsman's Copse

Where is
Bernharts summon sign before Freja?

I don't know with Lucatiel, but with the other guy I did 2/3 bosses with him waiting in the last spot he appears, so I think that as long as you don't talk to her in Aldia's Keep you're fine.
Ok, cool :) I managed to
beat all 4 bosses with Lucatiel now. Using the Redeye Ring really helped, since then the boss pretty much only targeted me, making it much easier to keep the NPC alive, and another real player could focus on attacking the boss too.

whoa i missed, this
thanks!
i totally forgot about that hallway

welp, so i went around and the
laddersmith
just isn't there.
did having to take the long way around make him move elsewhere? don't i need him to get
down the well in majula?

edit: nevermind, even if you dont talk to him in
earthen peak
he automatically goes back to majula after you beat the boss in the area. just found him in majula haha

You can jump down there using the Cat's Ring if you have enough health (taking off your armor would also help when jumping down), so you dont need him. It is a trophy/achievement for him though, but you dont need him to get down there.

If you beat the boss already, he will have moved to majula. Taking the long way around won't move him.

I finally got the Defenders Greatsword, S lightning scaling :D Only thing I don't like is it's quite a small greatsword - Both my Claymore, and obviously the Zweihander have better range.

Tried to burn the bonfire near the Throne Boss' and it wouldn't let me saying something along the lines of I hadn't killed the area boss - I'm assuming I revisit the throne room later?

Has anyone figured out how man soul vessels are obtainable? By the way, I haven't touched infamous or titanfall. I'm glued to this game. This will be the first souls game I ever finish the main quest line with.

IIRC there is 6 in the first playthrough. I know one of which can be bonfired in the Undead Crypt (in a wooden chest).

Shrine of Amana
and
Undead Crypt
down tonight. That pit in the
Crypt
with the bells was probably the worst thing ever.

Probably the creepiest thing I've ever seen in the series. Gave me the willies.

No idea how I'd beat that boss with pure melee.

I beat him with pure melee too. His attacks are pretty easy to avoid. He looked scary when I first saw him but I quickly figured out his attacks.

So I've done (early area spoilers)
The Forest of Giants (avoided the Lost Bastille for now), finished Heide's, tried No-Man's Wharf (no, man) and I'm just whacking the boss in The Cathedral of Blue.

Are there any good light armours I may have missed? I'm still in my Wanderer's gear.

Pyromancy only scales with INT right ? I'm doing an STR/Faith build (40/36), should I try using pyromancies still ?

You missed the drangleic set. It's located
just after the pursuer. He's the boss you can fight after the lost giant, you have to open a door with the soldier key near the place with a view on the sea and a giant statue holding a sword you can walk on.

Where is
Bernharts summon sign before Freja?

It's in one of the tents at the beginning of Brightstone, but you summon him for Dark Magus and Congress, not for Freja

Not sure what stat it scales with, I have 50 faith and only 6 intelligence but a Chaos Storm from a Pyroflame +10 still does amazing damage

That armor set is super-heavy, I think he was looking for light.

I'd give it a shot. Scaling for Pyro seems far less pronounced than the other magics. I only have 11/9 in INT/FTH respectively, and Flame Swath still does over 1k damage with a fully upgraded glove.

Looking at stat changes on level ups, it seems you'd have to put a good deal of points into INT and FTH to see any appreciable difference in damage.

Spend
16k at Maughlin's shop. He will then start stocking the sweet Alva set.

Pyro scales with the sum of int and faith.

Oh hai, Royal Rat Vanguard. This is a new type of challenge, and I love it. Probably love it more when I beat it, but whatever.

Time to start thinking about Pyromancy.

Well, Big V is down, which just leaves the other two optional bosses. Judging from the comments in the last couple of pages, it's looking like I should respec from pure strength for D
arklurker
. I have most of the spells but haven't used a single one yet, is pyro the way to go?

Thanks for this. I found that during my initial playthrough (I rerolled not long after). It's way too heavy for dodging in at the moment.

I see. Is that a good set?

Shrine of Amana was a cakewalk for me. Bow and arrow made most of the mages trivial. I usually rushed the ones that were close by and sniped the rest.

It was still horrible though, enemies seemed to pop in really late.

Havel's Shield
was enough for me. Just charge at them with my Greatsword, don't need no stinky bows. I didn't mind the area at all, and it's a great place to farm for
Twinkling Titanite
. The music was haunting and the boss was cool, I don't get the hate for the area.

It wasn't too bad. Most of the pillars were pretty good at blocking the attacks. I had way more trouble in the castle beforehand. That area actually exhausted me with all the dodging and blocking I had to do to get through it lol

I don't have that shield but I did have a Silverback Shield and it had pretty good magic resist which helped. But the mages didn't really do too much damage to me overall. The only time I died to them was being shot 2-3 times in a row and it staggered me.

I rarely used a bow before that area but it was fun sniping them. Made the area more strategic and enjoyable to me. I really loved the whole area as well. Gorgeous visuals and great music.

I want to respec my DEX/Faith build because it isn't as fun for me as in DS1. Which stats do I have to level to get a quality build? Or should I go for STR/Faith (Int)?

I made a faith build on Saturday, beat the game Sunday. Its prettttty OP once you level up enough. Sunlight Spear is godlike.

I litterally beat the final boss in 6 lightning shots.

That I can agree on, as FTH/STR though it was just a little frustrating having to use the binoculars.

I feel that because you can level up so many stats in the game, every build is viable unless you go way too much into a single stat (like >>50) because of diminishing returns.

Put some points (~20) into one or more of the defensive stats (VIT, VIG), some into END/ADP (also max. 20) and pump the rest into whatever one or two offensive stats you want. STR/FTH should be fine.

I'm losing my mind
in the Abyss. The dark Havel just fucks my dex dual katana build up. I've gotten through the stage once and my alliance deepened. Second time I got through it the fire was already lit and I disn't get any message about covenant level afterwards. What's up with that?

You need to go through the other two areas, which can be entered at the oher two portal locations. The level will only deepen after you cleared all three.
