So what's up with the
throne room at Drangelic Castle
? I see a ton of bloodstains on the ground but there's nothing in there but
two thrones
.

I want to respec my DEX/Faith build because it isn't as fun for me as in DS1. Which stats do I have to level to get a quality build? Or should I go for STR/Faith (Int)?

Quality build is pretty fun, you have a wide choice of weapons to pick from.
I did. 40/40 +10 Sunlightsword, which A/A scaling, really tears stuff up.

How am I supposed to summon for help to beat the
Gargoyles
if I'm constantly being invaded when I wait for a white sign to appear. Yeah, I know, git gud etc...

Havel's Shield
was enough for me. Just charge at them with my Greatsword, don't need no stinky bows. I didn't mind the area at all, and it's a great place to farm for
Twinkling Titanite
. The music was haunting and the boss was cool, I don't get the hate for the area.
Who drops them?

(Shrine of Amana spoiler)

That was hardly just any
frog. Thing had a creepy giant skeleton-demon living inside of it and would swat at you with arms protruding out of its mouth.

It's just the sort of unsettling and evocative enemy design I love from the series. Wish there had been a lot more of that. Also, great boss name.
I think it had a limited moveset and was extremely easy to beat. A lot of bosses in the game look impressive but once you figure out their attack patterns they go down easily.

Meanwhile, I just got smashed by a Hammer giant in
Dragon Shrine.
How much stamina do these guys have? He just swung at me 15 times in a row. Unfair.

Why - after 55 treacherous, death-laden hours - did I just now discover that guard-breaks can be followed up with a critical attack!?

So goddamn awesome.

Now I'm curious

You fight
two Pursuers simultaneously
.

I soloed that encounter last night. It wasn't trivial.

Oh I agree he wasn't much to write home about as far as difficulty. I just thought his visual design was very cool.

Just to be clear regarding Bonfire Aestic and NPCs, if i
summoned Bernhart for the Magus boss, then i summon him for the Mirror Knight boss and beat him, can i then go back to Brightstone Cove, use a Bonfire Aestic and fight Magus again?

Is it specific animation?

Similar to previous games. You hear the sound when you're successful then you go in and you do a special animation like with a backstab.

Fuck, we can summon him for Mirror? Did I just screw myself outta a trophy?

So I've done (early area spoilers)
The Forest of Giants (avoided the Lost Bastille for now), finished Heide's, tried No-Man's Wharf (no, man) and I'm just whacking the boss in The Cathedral of Blue.

Are there any good light armours I may have missed? I'm still in my Wanderer's gear.

The Varangian chest the dudes in
Wharf
was a decent upgrade from the Wanderer coat for me. It's not too heavy, lighter than Alva chest, iirc.

Ahhh, thanks.

I'll take a look see. I looked up Alva Set and it looks pretty sweet. If I can get my equip load to about 65-70, I should still be able to roll about like a nutter with it. May have to ditch the helmet, though.

I think you can summon him there. From what i know, you can summon him for
Magus, Mirror Knight, The Giant Lord and the last boss
. I dont think that you screwed yourself out of a trophy just yet. It should be possible to use a Bonfire Aestic, which should allow you to fight the same boss over again. You dont have to do this for
Mirror Knight, it can be done for any boss where Bernhart is summonable, and the easiest one is the Magus boss.

Not sure how many hours into I am, but I reached level 64 last night. I really like the fact that enemies don't respawn after so many times. It adds a new dynamic in challenging areas.

Take No-Man's Wharf for example, I wouldn't of been able to make it from the nearest fire to the boss battle with enough health, even though the boss was easy. I had to clear most of the enemies so they wouldn't respawn before I could make to the boss with enough health and estus.

Once you can get Black Leather (from
the ladder merchant in Earthen Peak
, you'll be good to go. At +9 the chest has 120 something physical defense and under 5 units of weight. You can pair that with heavy legs and gloves and still be pretty light.

Is it specific animation?

Yep. Involves the same preliminary grab required for backstabs. As a STR build, it's a game changer in PvP. Eat up their poise with my Gyrm Great Hammer and go in for the kill. It tracks incredibly well, too; maybe a little too well, come to think of it, but it does leave you fairly open if you fail to connect. I love it. It really promotes proactivity and aggression.

Black leather, eh? Is that basically
Thief's Set from DS1
? If so, that'd be amazing.

I don't even know where that is! I'm only really on my second area after Majula. Hunting Katanas, innit?

Yup, same as in DS1. I replace the gloves with gloves from the Leather set, or Drangleic gauntlets. Upgraded Black Leather boots are decent, sometimes I switch to Drangleic leggings or the Alonne Knight ones.

And you can get a katana in the area directly after the one where you get Black Leather.

Talk to the miracle trainer in Heide's Tower til she exhausts her dialogue. She relocates to Majula, on the path towards Heide's. Pay her 2000 souls and she unlocks a path that will get you moving towards the Black Leather set area. It'll take a while though.

Double nice one, sir!

Damn, i just disconnected when i got invaded, and when i went back online again, i was greeted with this:

ilPzerYKQa3qU.jpg

I had no idea that you would be punished for disconnecting while being invaded. I suck at PvP and i kinda hate being invaded since i pretty much always lose, so so far i have mostly been disconnected when getting invaded. I have probably done it at least 5 times though, so its not just because of one disconnect. It seems that you only get one Bone Of Order too, so if you mess up twice with one character, then you cant summon or be summoned with that character ever again :\ In one way, it is a good thing i think, because it keeps the online community regarding invaders more active. But if you hate getting invaded though, then there isnt much you can do about it.

Ok thanks. Mirror was pretty easy so I didn't summon.
No problem :) Yeah, if i remember correctly,
Mirror Knight
is the only boss in the game that i beat on my first try. Well, i also beat
the Dragonrider boss in Heide's Tower, but that was just pure luck because the boss walked off the platform and died after just one swing at me. I didnt even attempt to do this, it just happened.

I'm not sure if I'm happy with my build after co-oping with other players. Str-based with greatswords were doing back stabs for 1000 damage while I barely get 450 for one with my Dex weapons.

SL120, current stats:

Vit: 7
End: 16
Vig: 7
Atn: 20
Str: 23
Dex: 40
Adp: 12
Int: 40
Fai: 8

Using Sun Sword +10, Blacksteel Katana +10. Also have a bow and staff at +7 and +5 respectively (but the staff is a twinkly upgrade).

Should I respec? Or I think maybe go to 150 and get Dex and Int to 50 and put the rest in End/Adp. I dunno. My build feels underpowered to me but maybe I'm mistaken.

Oh, so that's what happens. I heard about a penalty but didn't know the details. That's pretty good. Sometimes I just sit and wait for the invader or keep moving to another area. I don't mind dying to invaders anymore. Always keep Ring of Life Protection around. Although invasions are so rare they don't bother me like they did with the older games.

I'd go to 150, take VIT, END, and ADP to 20. I'm only level 109, but that's my goal. And I'm keeping my STR at 17 to one hand the Black Knight Halberd, otherwise I use Blacksteel. What do you need 23 STR for?

Keeping Benhart alive in NG+ is driving me nuts. I've been trying to do it at the Glass Looking Knight boss but I always mess up one way or another. Also GLK invaders are assholes. Anyone got any tips?

Did Lucatiel's quest at The Rotten in NG+ (and with ++, +++ ascetics...) and didn't have much of a trouble. I've been trying to do Benhart's quest for hours now...

Decided to redo my stats again last night. This time was really only a minor change. Brought up my Faith from 50 to 60 and my Int down from 42 to 40. And brought down my ADP a little and changed others around too.

I am now concentrating on being a Miracle/Pyro build with a extra Hex spell. My +10 Pyro glove and Dragon Chime +3 does quite a lot of damage. Esp since it's so fast too. I need to get that up to +5. I have a Disk Chime shield in other hand that I use for my main shield. As well as a backup Miracle weapon, useful also for upping for Lightning Longsword.

I can't be the only one who wore their starting armour for the entire game, right? Didn't upgrade it neither.

I bought the Elite Knight set but stuck with Alvin Gauntlets and still using the Heide helm. I like the look. I may change helms later cuz everyone is using it and it annoys me. Been upgrading my gear as much as I can.

Going to shift my dex int build to a quality build. Any good bows I should work towards getting so I have a viable long range option?

I'm just using a Short Bow I found that happened to be infused with Lightning. I upgraded it and it already does pretty good damage.

;P
Hehe, i actually agree :) Its nice that they actaully have a mechanic in place that tries to keep the online part active. I just dont like being invaded :( I already used my Bone of Order, so i'm back online, so no problem. I wont disconnect anymore.

Does any other games have something like this? What about fighting games?

Yeah, invasion seems to happen rarely indeed. I might be mistaken, but i feel that everytime i get invaded, it is when i have a higher soul count. When i was invaded now, i had about 80k souls, and a few days ago when i was invaded, i had about 120k souls.

I agree that its nice that they have some mechanic in place that tries to keep that online part active, but i wouldnt mind if it was possible to turn off random invasions like that. Hiding is a good idea actually. I did that once and the invader ran around form maybe 5 minutes trying to find me before he left hehe :)

So these are a few things I couldn't figure out (all late game spoilers):

1.
How do you unlock the door at Aldia's keep? The one just before the dragon boss
.
2.
How do you unlock the door in Shrine of Amana? The one close to the 2nd bonfire, where you have to cross the bridge to get to it
.
3.
Also in Shrine of Amana, what's with that ritualistic bonfire next to the maiden you rescued from Drangelic Castle? I pray here, and nothing happens
.

lol so i put down my invasion sign near the mirror knight bonfire because a dude i invaded wanted a rematch, i got ended up summoned into the boss fight as a phantom! The first dude was easy because he was alone but the second time the host had backup in two white phantoms, i smoked him all the same. That fight is fucked.
