Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

I really wonder why some people, like yourself, are still having issues. Outside of having to run "10 feet away" in game and back to refresh summon signs, I really am surprised how few issues I/we have had.

There are still a ton of people playing and if you aren't quick other people will someone those people first, and if they do it'll say "summon sign disappeared." It's not like in Dark Souls 1 where the P2P connections and netcode were just so crappy it didn't work half the time.

Nearing the end of the game.

I really really think they went lazy with the level design in this game. I mean, in DaS, it felt like everything was connected.

And fuck fast travel, good level design is so much better. Too bad that when people implement fast-travel options it's too convenient not to use.

My god Dargon's Aerie is beautiful.
I agree the level design is the weakest in the series, but good level design and fast travel are not at odds with each other by nature. Demon's Souls still has the strongest level design, and its layout was partly focused on rewarding players with shortcuts and fast travel options.

darksouls2.wiki.fextralife.com is the one I go a lot, but only cause it shows up first in Google Search. Areas are often incomplete or unsure, but are filled out at least.

wow, I got screwed out of getting the ring of blades +2

killed one of the
pursuers
as the other killed me, went back and only one was spawning, and that one dropped twinkling titanite upon death :(

bah

Yeah, now you at least get a helpful reason instead of Summoning failed (most of the time). Summoning works better than any other game in the series, except perhaps DS on PC with the friend summoning mod.

I don't think I like this soul memory system at all though

Does anyone else hate the first-person archery or is it just me? I hate seeing an arrow fly out of a reticle. So immersion-breaking.

I wish it was still the old over-the-shoulder view.

I thought we had the same thing in every Souls games. Or is my memory shot?

In DS1, I believe it depended on the range stat of the bow you were using (or at least, it was much worse on the shortbow and composite bow than it was on the longbow and blackbow).

Also, if you're taking about the arrow pulling to the left of the reticule, that's apparently totally realistic. Take that, immersion!

God, I hope wikidot becomes the go-to one. I'll contribute to it when I have some time. I can't stand the fextralife one. The layout is completely broken on mobile and there's way too many ads.

Goes both ways.

Invade someone.... they hide for 5 minutes... next thing I know there's 3 people bashing my head in.

Skill

Eh, I don't much care about skill or not when someone invades me. You invaded me to kill me and prevent me from doing what I need to do. I'm not just gonna lose and be like "oh well I lost" if you successfully invade and beat me. I get killed, lose my Human form and souls (if I'm not wearing the right ring), lose my progress in the level and all the enemies come back. So no, invaders...you don't get "skill". You don't get fair. You get whatever cheap underhanded tactic I can think of to get you dead so I can continue on my way. Double summons, turning enemies on the invader, fair game.

Fair fights are for duels.

What took getting used to for me was having to continuously hold L1 while aiming. I am hoping that this might be the first souls game where you can wear large brimmed helmets while aiming manually (I haven't found any yet, I'm still early game)

Bleh, try equipping your bow in your left hand. R1 to aim, L1 to fire.

BLEHHHHHH.

If I'm using a bow, it's not like my shield matters; I'd rather put away the shield. That way I can keep my catalyst in my right, so I could use that with my shield. So Dumb.

Amen brother. You come into my world, waste my time, and complain about fairness?

bah

How do I unlock this battle? I used an Ascetic at the King's Gate bonfire but it says I still have to beat the "Lord of the quarter". Do I have to fight the final boss first?

I get summoned only a few seconds after putting my sign down. I think it's mint.

This has been my experience. I'll still be in the DS1 mindset and think to myself "I'll slap my sign down and do this menial chore while I wait to be summoned, by the time I'm done I should get a taker"...but the chore never gets done because I never stop getting summoned. Never had more than a minute pass before getting summoned in this game, it's brilliant.

Summoning others on the other hand, I don't know - I'm still on my first playthrough and haven't tried it yet.

Guys a question: why would anyone build a complete new charachter? Isnt it better to continue with your existing(in NG+) charachter and invest in other stats?

Finally more jolly cooperation.

Sometimes part of the fun is starting over with completely different stats. Sure you could use the soul vessel but still the stats are not the same starting stats of the class you might want to pursue now and while its not a huge part for some it is a difference indeed.

Dedicated PVP character to fit within a particular soft level cap maybe?

Yesterday I was having trouble fighting off a dude at the Iron Keep bridge, so I decided to bolt it to the next segment of the area where Smelter Demon is. I didn't see the guy for a while, but I went inside the middle area with them metal door. I went outside after a bit and I saw him. Dude came in and I tried fighting him again. Then I left the area and ran towards the metal stairs. He was shooting arrows and somehow he fell into the lava.

Good times lol. I might try leading more people around the areas since it's fun.

You'd think it wouldn't take that long considering it doesn't take that ages to be summoned.

whose idea was it to make those enemies in
shaded woods

Someone who knows how to make an area tense. I walked through that area scared out of my mind. It doesn't help that
when they got close enough to you they basically disappear. I was flailing like an idiot and running like a child
.

The foggy woods? Yea, they're lame. They hardly scratch me. Weak dudes.

I must have hit that area at exactly the right time then, because they messed me up unless I guessed correctly.

I'd do it to see how viable something is from the beginning. Fighting the bosses over in NG+ with all your leveled up gear isn't the same as starting from scratch and trying to upgrade everything along the way, especially because (according to people here, I wouldn't know) they
change the bosses up in NG+ and beyond
.

Same thing is true for the other side as well. As an invader I can and should do everything possible to kill you. There is no "fair". If you want fair you can become a dragonbro.

People shouldn't expect fair from invaders. They're already invading you intent on screwing your run through the level and griefing you, so you should know what kind of tactics they'll pull.

Which is why it's perfectly fine to make them rue the day they decided to jump into your world by making them miserable with cheesy tactics and jolly cooperation group beatdowns. XD

As Kai Dracon and Nito said, some people want to preserve a specific character for PVP or co-op, and don't want that character to outlevel their niche. Plus it's just a lot of fun starting over. The game just came out and I intend on putting hundreds of hours into it.

Yep. They are already not being fair by invading. They can complain all they want against my OP Flame Swath or Sunlight Spears. :)

Fairness in the Souls series is using whatever options the game gives you to survive. You can't know ahead of time what the other player has at their disposal or how they will act. I'm glad to reciprocate gestures and avoid healing unless absolutely necessary, but that's my choice and there's risk involved in each case.

Regarding summoning NPCs for bosses,
do i have to summon Bernhart for the Throne of Want bosses, or do you i have to summon him for Throne of Want + the last boss at the same fight?

Does anyone else think that [late game spoilers]
the Soldier's Rest bonfire will be the launching area for DLC? That's the only reason that really makes sense to me, given that there's a bonfire there and the only Ancient you can't access (yet).
I'm wondering this myself

Out of curiosity, where do you pick that spear up?

In D
oors
of P
harros
.
Go into the first rat covenant area, and there will be a big 3-part door on your right. Open it with Pharros' Lockstones (maybe only the bottom part is enough (the Pharros 'face' is in front of the door underwater), otherwise open one of the side parts too) and defeat the Mastodon inside and it'll be in the back.

I got the Raw (true) Santier's Spear +5, which is probably the best version unless you have the stats to pull of elemental or mundane infusion. It has an attack rating of 230. It's pretty good, a full light + light 2H combo can stunlock and kill most things in the game. I usually run with the Tower Shield +10 and Mace +10, but if I really want things dead quick I switch to the Santier's Spear (or my Arced Sword +5 and Murakumo +10, I really like there's so much crafting material in this game, I got multiple fully leveled weapons and I haven't even beaten the game yet).

What ancient? O.o The Giant?
The only use this area had to me so far is the tree of giants which has a chance of growin a seed of the tree of giants each time you get invaded. The chance grows with each invasion.
Other than that there's a black phantom there with a familiar armor set in ng+. :D
