Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

It isn't a Smash Bros game as in it's not officially sponsored by Nintendo. But one could argue that Project M is just a fan-made derivative of Brawl.

also, Smash Bros isn't a fighting game

also, Bros isn't a game

Yep. Also, Project M isn't a Smash Bros. game.

Disregarding Project M like it reads in your message doesn't seem quite fair. The Project M people made it from their love of Smash, and it really seems to be a good mod. Granted I haven't played it, but from gameplay I've seen, the mod doesn't seem to be broken and offers a different game style for those who want it.

Of course, preparing your downfall early on for tonight. ;3

KHlover and emb: breaking their avatars together
:lol

Shittiest avater I ever had on any site. Made it when Zelda was revealed. I don't even like playing as Zelda

But thanks for reminding me to make avatars visible again. This needs to be replaced ASAP

I don't understand how people are ranking Smash 4 in these lists that keep popping up. None of us have played it. Plus even if it's a projection based on very little all indications suggest a faster game than brawl with more characters options and superior visuals to melee. Sounds pretty baller to me.

I'm fairly sure that those who aren't putting SSB4 in the #1 spot are just joking.

After the reception of Brawl, there's just no way Sakurai could make it worse. I mean, he's already been buffing several characters by raising their kill potential. Combine that with the phenomenal art style and new additions like facial expressions (gives the characters more.. character), and you'll see why it's probably alright to assume it'll rank higher than Brawl on our lists.

No tripping makes Smash 4 a great contender already.

We've seen a bunch of gameplay actually and when you look at that, it looks slightly faster, slightly less floaty, and overall better than Brawl already (obviously in my opinion).

I have finally run out of suitable avatars for the time being.

How annoying.

And I will not hold any sort of opinion on 4 until I play it myself.

I'm not sure what this means. I think it's a jab at my avatar, which is fair. I don't really like the post for that art, I do kinda need to find a replacement.

no, it's that your avatar is literally broken, as in there's no image being displayed

I don't disagree with that, but it's still an unofficial fan mod, and it's still technically Brawl. It's disingenuous to include Project M in a list of Smash Bros. games. I didn't mean to imply anything more than that with my comment.

Oh man, that puzzle.
How the hell were you supposed to figure out that you had to close the DS?

I think they gave you a hint. I didn't do it on accident my first play through of the game. I sat there forever looking then I was like, what if I.... Motherfuckers!

lol Why is it disingenuous? You're taking these lists way too seriously. If people like some Smash mod more than the game itself, why does it bother you if they put it on a list?

I'm curious. Is it only because it's not a "real" Smash game made by Nintendo? Some of the greatest aspects in games come from mods, especially when it comes to sequels. Devs sometimes include things in sequels if they saw how loved it was in a mod of a previous game.

Broken here as well; I'm using Chrome, and when I try to open the image in a new tab, the error that Google gives me is "Duplicate headers received from server."

Oh well, download link for the png file. Maybe some browsers don't like the site the pic was uploaded on?

emb, try to download this and upload the .png file directly to neogaf.

(Just out of interest, does my new avatar display correctly? This one was directly uploaded on neogaf, as opposed to the image sharing site the last one was hosted on)

^funny, I'm also on mobile as a 2nd check and it doesn't work on mine :lol
(but it does work on IE, maybe it's a Google Chrome thing)

yeah your new one is fine

Yep. Also, Project M isn't a Smash Bros. game.

1. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
2. Super Smash Bros. Melee
3. Super Smash Bros.

I'm sure Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U will take the top spot once it's released. Content is king, after all. More characters, more stages, more items, and more features equals a bigger and better game to me.

And lol, Project M. Even if I did like it, I wouldn't compare it to the official Smash Bros. games. That fact that it's a fan mod is way too apparent and it just feels wrong as a result. Too many things tampered with.

I mean while I really and truly get these kinds of opinions and respect them, I personally feel like Project M gave a new potential to everything in Brawl at every level. People who might find a bit of datedness in Melee's visuals get to play a game with that pace using Brawl's wonderful assets. People who think "oh it's just going to be Melee 2" come to the realization through a few subtle and not so subtle changes that the game explicitly attempts not to be a 1:1 recreation of Melee and thus allows for cool different takes on what existed previously. People who just want to fuck around get a wacky set of new things to try out (one has not lived until they've played Turbo Mode with Bunny Hoods and Smash Balls on) and stages to mess with. Then finally, those people people who want the free form Smash game play with Melee's pacing and heft get their wish fulfilled admirably.

The Brawl cast as a whole + Roy + Mewtwo also puts PM over Melee for me personally because of how many new characters add to the matchup diversity and how many older characters got new tricks to play with.

TL;DR: Project M is for all intents and purposes "not" a Smash game in that it didn't come with association to or endorsement from Sakurai, but I'll be damned if it isn't a wonderful compliment to the series proper.

Yes, Project M is Brawl at the end but at the same time is not Brawl "alone", I could change my ranking and put Brawl 1st instead of Project M but then Brawl alone is not the reason I placed it there.

I agree that mods of games can be a delicate topic but I think this is one that is both pretty solid and has been gaining enough presence itself that it can be talked about together with the main games of the franchise.

Also yeah I can't see emb's avatar either.

Strange. I thought I had uploaded it to Neogaf directly, but maybe I went through imgur or something. I'll probably just roll with the sometimes broken version until I switch. A change up is pretty overdue.

1. 64
2. Melee
3. Project M Brawl Mod
4. Brawl Plus
5. Brawl

That's mostly my gameplay ranking, but besides that...

I prefer the items in 64 and Melee. Some of the new items in Brawl like the Curry, Dragoon, Lightning bolt, and Smart Bomb just felt too powerful. Assist Trophies were a neat idea, but they suffer from the same problem. Pokeball pokemon had the opposite problem where they were really weak overall. The individual target tests being replaced by the new type of target tests was a bummer and the last event match in Brawl was so disappointing. I also didn't really like the Subspace Emissary besides the cool cut scenes and the sticker customization system which were both great. Actually I think it would be amazing if sticker customization returned and if it could be used in versus mode. It might be tough to balance though.

For the visuals, it's 64 for me at the top and this is mostly because it's much easier to read compared to Melee and Brawl. The characters popped out more and the colors were better. Brawl is the worst when it comes to this compared to 64 and Melee. Smash 4 is looking great though.

Also, 64 had the best hit sound effects.

Yeah, Chrome is killing emb's avatar.

Also, 64 had the best hit sound effects.

The one #truthfact to rule them all. Best crowds, best reactions, bestest announcer, best Home Run Bat KO/Luigi Super Jump Punch/Jigglypuff Rest sound effect, PIGAAAA, etc.

That whole avatar situation here is fucked up. I created all three avatars with the same settings in the same program (Photoshop CS6). I thought using

Option 1 - Enter the URL to the Image on Another Website

as opposed to

Option 2 - Upload Image From Your Computer

might be the the reason for the avatars not working correctly, but that's also not it. Just checked the Image link of the broken avatars - hosted on neogaf, the site seems to grab the images from whichever site they were uploaded from and rehosts them on the neogafs own server.

So I now have three avatars, all made under exactly the same circumstances and on the same server. Two of them are broken, one isn't. Can't even really put the blame on Chrome since my new avatar seems to be working on Chrome. THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT?

Smash Palutena shouldn't exist yet probably :P.

Try maybe uploading it to minus and get the image url from there.

Its not that the new items were too powerful. Its that Sakurai weakened the old items while making the new ones strong. The same thing happened with a lot of the characters. A lot of the older characters were nerfed while the newer characters were pretty strong.

I found the biggest problem with Brawl's item selection is that there was a huge variety but only a small amount of fun/useful ones. Melee and 64 had a much smaller selection but there was a much higher frequency of useful/fun items. Same thing happened to Brawl with the pokeballs where a lot of them weren't very useful.
