Out of curiosity, where do you pick that spear up?

You find it behind
the triple triangular door in the main water area of the Doors of Pharros. It's not far from the first bonfire; just hug the right wall.
After that, prepare for a mammoth of a task.
(That's a pun. There's a mammoth warrior behind the door AND you're going to have to break the weapon's 500 durability without resting before it gets its true moveset.)

Wow. Down the rabbit hole I went. Goddamn. Ended up in The Gutter. Wow. And the ROUS's weren't bad at all! Flame sword and mobility and done. Saw so much today, can't even remember it all. Like a dream, indeed.

Keeping Lucatiel alive against Lost Sinner in NG+ is no easy task. I could do it quite comfortably if it wasn't for
the pyromancers. They mess things up just enough for Lost Sinner to end up with 10-20% hp every damn time.
Is there any proper way to heal people if you don't have high faith? Warmth feels pretty useless since it would heal Lost Sinner as well. Or maybe it would keep Lucatiel in the fight just long enough, might have to try that. Probably gonna try Smelter Demon tomorrow as well. I've heard it's even worse.

Does anyone else think that [late game spoilers]
the Soldier's Rest bonfire will be the launching area for DLC? That's the only reason that really makes sense to me, given that there's a bonfire there and the only Ancient you can't access (yet).
That seems plausible, i didnt think about that. It would make sense since it could tell more about
the war between Drangleic and the giants. The only thing that speaks against it i think is that with the other Giant memories, you cant stay in there "forever" (i'm not sure if it applies to the Giant King boss though), otherwise you get teleported back to Drangleic.

That's right. I see it's a starting gift. I wonder if there are other ways to get it.

From what I heard, you need to be invaded a lot to get it from those Giant trees. It's like they feel bad for you and want to help you. Dunno of another method to get it.

Doubt I'll ever get it. Only been invaded 4 times in 80 hours. And won every single one.

Thank god for the turbo button on my MadCatz TE. The true Santiers Spear is almost mine! :D

you realize you could run through an acid pool in shaded woods near the bonfire and bring the durabillity down in seconds?

edit: its dangerous but with a few healing items, its much faster

Try using Redeye Ring, it makes it much easier to keep the NPCs alive. I also recommend to summon another person for those fights. If you use the Redeye Ring, the boss will mainly target you, and then the NPC and the other person can consentrate on hitting the boss.

That's what I was thinking too. For something more substantial like DLC, I don't think they'd keep the time limit. I'd love to actually see the
Land of the Giants where Vendrick went.

I was told durability pools only affect armor and rings. I went with making a pile of bodies by a wall and hitting them all with each swing.

That would be awesome from a lore perspective, but I don't actually think
the giants
are very interesting enemies to fight.

HAHA LOL...yes I have changed my handle many times, 2inept and 2AdErPT didnt do it for me. My initials are EPT, but I love ADP so much I might have to change the handle once again to 2 ADaPt.....I do believe in evolution!!!

Gotta say guys I'm loving this game...just got addicted to the Ricard's rapier (never used rapiers before as I thought they were too linear) as it mowed down the old iron king for me today.... I think I got 5 stabs in just one slam punish, and each stab did 250....that's 1250 in one go....and my dex is only 26.......it takes some practice, but I dead angled into his horns after a dodge, and then finished him off with a poke to his face. I keep trading it out but keep coming back. Am I the only one that find the katanas this round to be slow and heavy? Still uploading so will share later.

see the fight here

I'm sure there would be other stuff to fight as well, but I would personally love to see more about them. And knocking one onto its butt with a Greatsword leap (forward+R2) is something that never ever gets old.

The wiki specifically says the weapon isn't effected by those acid pools.

it definitely wrecks armour and rings etc. in the rat area when you use lockstones...hurts the host as much as invaders also...unfortunately I know first hand....serves me right for being such a rat.

I just meant that specific weapon isn't effected by the acid. And what do you mean when you say you dead angle'd a boss? I thought that meant angling your attack to hit people that hide behind shields.

Can you summon help for the fight with K
ing
V
endrick
? I can't seem to find any summoning symbols in the area when I go to start the fight.

So,
Vendrick
, how do you beat him?

His tracking swings and very difficult to dodge, especially the sweep; and if I block it basically takes my entire stam bar. I have all the giant souls except the dragon.

Goddamn why wasn't there any message telling me that the smelter demon was through the fog?
Couldn't homeward bone without getting hit :\

Is Vendrick the giant hollow pacing around at the end of the Undead Crypt?
How do you even make him aggressive? My attacks don't even register and he ignores me.

Found this - skip to 1:07. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPA9zOkT2Ak

This part of the game is weird. The time limit + crazy HP and defense on the enemies made me feel like I should just run through it. Can't really say I knew what was going on in any of these
memories
. Maybe I should go back and try to find some loot that I missed, though.

This part was zero fun for me.

Probably the wrong word, but when you use the rapier, it just stabs straight forward. This is a problem when trying to hit a certain spot without lock on. For something like the OIK, to be able to hit the horns means pushing or "angling" the direction of the rapier into the horns which are off to the side of the character, as my strat was always to go side to side with OIK. A couple of his attacks are at first glance unpunishable, but I noticed I could just barely get a shot at his horns. The movement is similar to dead angling with any poke/stab weapon, I realize most dead angling takes place using sweeping moves, but it just seemed like the right word at the time! Angling the rapier into the horns without lock on I guess is a better way to describe it. To get his face with the final blow was real lucky but made for good TV.

I need to prepare for the PC launch. The invasions will be plentiful and many tears will fill my 64oz double gulp cup.

After that, first steam sale.

In my session today, I finally felt that the game achieved that elusive atmosphere from the first game: oppressive and unrelenting. The jump in pacing after un-petrifying that early game statue, the way you keep stumbling onto area after area, that sense of Dark Souls inter-connection, and tons of nooks and crannies. I kept pressing forward until I landed in the blackness of The Gutter and then it was time to pick up my kids, still a little dazed from the experience. If the endgame gets even better as people have been saying, then it may supplant Dark Souls for me.

I went to
The Bastille
early on my first playthrough. I was thinking that the game felt kind of linear, and I was bummed that I was forced to finish this one thing before I could move on. I'm glad I decided to explore more.. I was blown away that there were so many areas I could go to.

I can already say that it has passed the other two for me, and I have not hit late game yet. Demon's was the first and original experience, so Dark, despite some improvements and some detraction, was just not as emotional. Would have helped had the DLC been incorporated in from the start maybe. But this one has tough bosses even for vets at the start and is really challenging.....way more hidden walls, secret stuff, and tonnes of characters. In this case bigger is better after being starved for new content for so long.I also think recording the whole first playthrough let's play style increases the fun for me...I go back re-watch and see things I missed while I was playing. I do take issue with the inability to see the whole interconnectedness, although the ocean is on the right side, the depth is off....you should still be able to see ocean when facing out from the 2nd forest bonfire, for example. It would be interesting to see the collision map for this game. Would be cool to be able to see the lost Bastille off in the ocean somewhere...maybe I missed it, but I did check and couldn't see it, nor did I see the rest of Drangleic anywhere from the Bastille. maybe you guys with the CE can let us know what you think of the accuracy of the wall map.

For anyone doing bernharts side quest, which bosses are the easiest to accomplish this task? I was thinking about using bonfire ascetic 2x in campsite

The later half of the game really impressed me. It is a little bit linear in some ways - but the way that each area unfolds into the next, and the quality of each area makes me willing to overlook that aspect. The game world feels more like hub & spoke - with each spoke being really well defined/interesting, but not connecting back to the others that much/at all. Sort of like a hybrid of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls - but a little more Demon's.
