Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

So when you try infusing, if the scaling doesn't change, does it mean that it will also progress just the same as if you upgrade the weapon on the regular path ?

Ok this is a shot in the dark and the probable answer is gonna be no...

But does anyone know contact information for FROM software? My disc tray broke so I can't play Dark Souls 2 anymore... I bought the steelbook and stuff and would gladly trade it in if I could get a code for the 360 Games on Demand download. Was hoping they'd be generous enough to give me one but I can't find them on twitter.

Shame there isn't a physical to digital trade in system.

I really don't want to pay $120 to play Dark Souls 2 as much as I love the game...

You need to level up "ATN" to at least level 10. Then you get 1 slot. At level 13 you get two slots, at level 16 you get three slots (not sure how much more you get after this since my ATN level is only at 16, but i have 3 slots).

So this pyro glove is currently a waste of time...

So I just got the S
oul
of the K
ing
by killing V
endrick
and...

Isn't Ornifex or Straid supposed to sell me his gear with the soul? I go to both of them with the item in my inventory but neither of them have his weapons or shield... is it possibly for NG+ only?

The caestus seem surprisingly decent. Was just dueling a guy using them and we both died at the same time. I think the Caestus's strength is that it has 3 times the range of its visible reach due to the crappy hit boxes.

I missed it too.
His gear is in a chest in the same area you got his soul.

Dodging > blocking > higher health > physical defensive stats.

They do matter, but even if your at the higher end, you'll only be taking something like 25% less damage.

I'm not too fond of light builds. I like blocking. How is it inferior to dodging exactly ? It all depends on playstyle. Not everyone wants to be a pvp ninja.

I was just reminded on why i dont like random invasions :\ I got invaded by a red phantom, i think i hit him once (sounded like it at least), seemed to do hardly any damage at all. Then the guy hit me once, i get "stunned" and he hit me again three times, then i'm dead. I'm stunned and i cant do anything it seems.

You'll see some difference in damage taken, but generally something that'll kill you in Havel's will kill you in a robe.

Fashion Souls (considering weight) >>> all, anyways.

Shit, really?

I've been dumping a lot of points into Vitality just for equip load. I currently have the Vengarl Set, Havel's shield, and a Gyrm Great Hammer, some ring that lowers weight and I'm just under the fat roll percent. Maybe I fucked that up, lol.

Guys, was watching the download list on my vita and found this... Maybe is old but dunno. Maybe an error?

If you get your poise broken, you can generally dodge out of it within 1-2 hits. You probably didn't hit him, but got the sound that you hit him and it looked on your end like you hit him(That's because of crappy netcode), happens all the time.

Now the Flame Greatsword +10 I am doing 280phys, 280 fire with ~60 phys and 20 Fire from scaling = total 640 damage. So at FIRE +10 we are already doing more damage than the physical build WITH buff. Now we add the buff :)

Not saying that the Flame Greatsword isn't great, but when you split damage into multiple types, you have to go through multiple defenses. A moderate amount of damage of one type will often deal more damage than two types of damage even if the combined total is more.

Yeah, he was rolling when i hit him, so i probably didnt hit him. Thanks for the tip about rolling, i will try to roll next time, usually i try to get the shield up instead unless i'm fighting a boss or some of the thougher enemies :)

Yeah, and I had the same with the Atelier Escha & Logy music DLC, though unlike DSII I can actually see that hitting Vita eventually... whether it actually has a use for that DLC is a different question though.

wierd. wellager sells all the preorder weapons after you kill the lat boss anyway.

or i'm missing the point lol
I was thinking the same thing first, but i think the point is that it shows up as "download" on Vita. It shouldnt normally do that if the content isnt supported on the Vita.

Blocking can leave you stunned, if the enemy drains all your stamina by constantly hitting you while you block.
Dodging is a safer bet. Unless the enemy has good tracking.

I agree but it isn't the case with the Greatsword (and probably many other weapons). One of the great benefits of going elemental is to troll PvP players who love to block. 200+ dmg through a shield is no joke lol. Here is the breakdown:

My Greatsword +10 with 40 STR I was doing 400base and ~150 from the scaling for a total of 550 DMG. With the flame buff I would do 50 fire and additional 30% fire dmg for a total of 615dmg.

Now the Flame Greatsword +10 I am doing 280phys, 280 fire with ~60 phys and 20 Fire from scaling = total 640 damage. So at FIRE +10 we are already doing more damage than the physical build WITH buff. Now we add the buff :)

With the Flame Weapon buff, we add 50 fire dmg and 30% increase to fire damage. We are at 340 Phys and 455 Fire damage. For a total of 795 one handed damage :) Like I said, it does 200DMG on block :)

PS. Screw the Crypt Blacksword -- I'll take longer range and less stamina consumption with equivalent damage.

I still don't get weapon infusing.
Doing so splits your total base damage between regular physical attack & with the new elemental power?
On top of that, it automatically lowers your scaling? So an "A" in STR or DEX becomes a "C'?

Is that right?

I really hope Fromsoft can do something about this phantom range business. It's putting a pretty huge damper on what is otherwise an amazing PvP system.

i beat the main story. game was great, but ending sucked.

now to decrypt the post game and clear every possible trophy. i wonder if i'm the only one who missed the merchant in the wharf.

I'm kind of iffy due to timing sometimes being complete bullshit, especially when the invaders aren't considerate enough to allow you to tend to whatever you're actively doing.

Perhaps they should introduce a limited use "get the fuck out of my world!" item, IE you're just trying to do some covenant stuff or you KNOW you're about to reach a bonfire, and don't want some motherfucker ruining it for you.

EDIT: Also it can't work on those you voluntarily bring in such as Dragon/Red Signs, and perhaps not specific areas designed around that such as the Bell or Rat Covenants (though I can't see why you'd want it for Rat anyway given the nature of it.) Maybe even kick out everyone summoned period to be a heavy cost if you really want people out that badly.

There are 2 different kind of PvP encounters in the game in my opinion. There are the duels that are started at the covenant areas and by the soap stones and then there are invasions. In a duel you should never heal with estus, its just BM, but people do it anyway so I just make a rule for myself to not be the first to do it. In an invasion my goal is to destroy the target at any cost. I still never estus in an invasion unless the other person does first but I don't blame them for doing so either.
Wanting an invader to be considerate of what you are doing is never going to happen because that is not what they are supposed to do. Also, as far as the bonfire thing goes, you can still touch the bonfire and light it up and when you die you should spawn at the one you just lit. You don't need to sit at a fire to save your progress.

Agreed, but in this game it is much easier to buff your physical defenses (via armor) than it is for elemental resistances.

I still don't get weapon infusing.

Is that right?

Correct, but scaling doesnt matter that much in some cases, especially when your base goes up a lot.

Was dueling on the iron keep bridge last night.
Got stunlocked right off the bat with a long sword.
He couldn't finish me off, I pivot around and get a backstab.
Then I chaos stormed him as he was getting up, it's quite funny to see that this still works.

By the way, regarding the
Moonlight Greatsword/Bernhart
trophy, its enough to
beat the two bosses in Throne of Want and keep Bernhart alive in that fight. You dont have to do the boss fight with the two bosses first and then the last boss directly after that.

You just get an error message (C0-10935-8 if you want to know specifically which.)
As someone said, you got an error.
I see, probably just a mistake by Sony. It would be really cool if Vita got a Souls game though :)

Can somebody please explain Dexterity Scaling for me? I mean, I can look it up in the wiki, but it seems weird.

Here's my situation. I'm using a Black Knight Ultra Greatsword as 1 of my 2 main weapons, and it has B/C scaling at +5. My Strength is 40, and my Dex is 28. It is listed as 522 on the stats page. I just raised my Dex to 29, and 522 stayed flat. Why didn't it go up? How much should I raise it to get maximum benefits?

GAF, gotta say. Dark Souls II has set a new standard for me. I'm getting old and more selective as the time passes, and this game is my new "gotta be better so I'll try".

The BK ultra greatsword has low dex scaling so it gets little benifit by putting points into dex. Ideally you want B or higher scaling in what ever your main stat is. C, D and E scaling is virtually worthless.

I love how the Last Giant has
swords, and other objects all in his body. The last of his kind, after the war that wiped them all out. And it shows.

Don't give it too much thought, flippy dex builds still think they enjoy some degree of dominance held over from DS1. Times have changed...;)

Covered head to toe in weapons but he
rips his own arm off
when he actually needs one. Badass.

Late game area spoilers:
Dragon Aerie and Dragon Shrine
are so freakin' beautiful. Honestly, there isn't a single area's art design I don't like (outside of maybe the PS2 Era Woods) but the last half of the game has been especially outstanding.

I had a funny little moment ascending at the end of the area. I thought I'd cleared all the enemies out but there was one left hiding and when he popped up and started chasing me I went "NOPE!" and started running down the stairs. The camera angle was perfect that I watched him chase me in perfect time as I booked it down the entire staircase.

Sweet! Gonna set my Dex to the min for requirements and use those points elsewhere!

Ok, so I want to make sure. Flame Weapon is a pyromancy, so its damage scales with INT and FAITH, right? Putting points into those categories won't be wasted?

I do not like the armored turtle dudes in the lava area. No. I do not like them at all.

I cheese them with the bow.

Sad but true, and I'm not even talking PVP.I used to be able to rock the black leather armor in Demons and DS1, its useless in this, unless you want to challange yourself to not die in two thwacks.

There are some real high points in this game's environments later on, so much so that the early game feels incredibly disjointed because of it. Once it really comes into its own though, the game really retains a lot of that "Souls" feeling. I just wish it were a more consistent experience from the get go.

King's Ring get. The battle before actually took me a couple of tries before I was a roll master.

Spoilers for after:
Kinda sad seeing the king just walking around. Creepy. You can't kill him can you?

Guess there are only a few areas left according to the bonfire page. I've been taking my time with the game, loving it though.

No Mans Wharf
is ruining my life. Am I alone in this? Lost 33,000 souls going from the bonfire
to the ship entrance
... I feel like this should be easy but it's kicking my ass.

Did you at least use the
Pharros Lockstone to light the place up? That keeps the long-armed monsters to the shadows and out of your way most of the time.

Glad to hear you got the trophy, but that didn't work for me. Had to do
3 other fights in addition to that one, and I've read elsewhere that it only counts for him if you do all 3 "end" bosses in one go.

I dunno, I think some of the early areas are pretty cool looking and atmospheric, especially
Heide's Tower of Flame (although I wish it was a larger area), No Man's Wharf, and Sinner's Rise, especially the walk towards the Lost Sinner battle.
I'm pretty damn impressed with all the visuals, and I'm really interested to see if the PC version has the lighting they advertised because there are some areas that will likely be downright awesome and spooky if done right.

In other news, I've been doing a little PvP here and there, trying out the different PvP covenants and I've definitely determined that my starting character is not up to snuff for PvP. My next build will definitely be more PvP oriented while this one is just fine for PvE and Co-op.
