flying AoE attack? I have an upgraded Gyrm's Greatshield but it drains my stamina after 2 ticks and then autodeath after that. Can't seem to find a direction to run to avoid it entirely.

When it starts flapping its wings, immediately start running towards its tail. Be careful though, when it lands it can crush you. I wouldn't even worry about using a shield for this fight.

I'm now level level 185 or so with a pure focus on Miracles (Lightning), Pyro, and little Hex on the side. I currently have like 60 Faith, 40 Int, 50 Att, and just enough str/dex to use lightning longsword. I think I may actually upgrade my str/dex to start using slightly better weapon.

Any recommendations for a good weapon to use for my kind of build that scales well with a spell type?

I do a great deal of damage now with Sunlight Spear and my Dragon Chime +5 as well as my fully upgraded fire stuff. Feels so rewarding, but still challenging luckily.

I'm actually on in NG near the end and starting to feel as I really don't need to upgrade as much anymore. But I will. As I am compelled to go higher and higher and higher. Lol

Now go get chaos storm for ultra satisfaction.

Started NG+ last night. killed
Last giant
and
Pursuer
first time. Killed him when he first gets dropped in by that eagle. chaos storm and flame swathe ftw

Where do I get Chaos Storm?

If you are just after its soul go back to where you killed
freja
its far more interesting then doing that collosally boring fight.

Already did that, but I'm what you might call a completionist. Especially in a Souls game, gotta squeeze every last drop out of it.

I found armor & shields useless for this fight. Usually if you get stomped by him or breathed by him, you're dead regardless, even with smelter demon armor.

What I did was... go totally naked, 2 hand your weapon with a stam recovery shield on your back.

- When the fight starts, start running towards him counter-clockwise. Make sure you bait his frontal cone attack before getting too close or else he will probably do the flying attack right away.
- While he is breathing the frontal cone, run underneath him and position yourself on the outer side of his rear right leg.
- Attack his toes a couple times and then wait.
- He will now either try to stomp you or he will crouch briefly and take flight.
- If he tries to stomp you, roll away and then get in a couple more toe hits.
- If he takes flight, right when you see him crouch, start sprinting towards his tail, he might spin a little bit to face you while he takes off, so you may have to run on a diagonal. If you react fast enough, you should be far enough away from the flame.
- After flight, he'll land. Just sprint back to that spot near his leg and rinse repeat.
- Sometimes he will jump in the air and not do a breath attack, but just slam his body on the ground. Running to his tail (don't stand under the tail's shadow, else you'll get slammed) will also avoid this, so just always run to his tail when you see him crouch.
- Don't get greedy on getting hits in on his toes, you'll need all your stamina to run away!

The worst part is making the run from the bonfire to the boss, those big knights are a royal pain.

Black Gulch is classic circle-strafe Souls boss, by the time it attacks you're out of the way. Get in a hit or two and keep going. iirc, it has an AoE with a build up, so look out for that. You can also summon
Lucatiel
I think.

I thought the design of this was lazy, it was like a reject design from DeS. Looked like a cross between a plague baby, leechmonger and the Adjudicator.

Sinner's Rise was all about stamina management for me (isn't it always!). Light the two torches either side outside the boss room to make locking on easier. And just be patient, patient never greedy - Souls boss strat (TM)

I don't know what build you are, but for Lost Sinner, you need to stay real close and circle around, like most of the other bosses. When you lose lock-on, just sprint towards him to get it again and you're set. The battle would have been problematic if the room was truly pitch black but with the skewed gamma, it's easy to keep sight.

Right now my main stat is dex and I'm using a black knight halbert. On both bosses I'm having dificulty getting around them. I don't feel i'm that over weight maybe 60% but one hit kill my stamina (currently 20 pts). Maybe I just need to work at them both a bit more.

Enjoying DS2 quite a bit, it's a shame I can't dedicate as much time to it as it deserves, due to gamedev when I get home from work, but I'll have to see how much I can do with the hour or so I get every day for play.

No invasions yet as of Bastille area. Though I do spend most of my time hollowed. Is there a way to regain humanity without effigies? Or at least a good way to get them reliably?

It didn't, though. I tried hitting it every time.

Wow that's weird. I actually came back to do the same thing late in the game and it blew up when I hit it. I think I was using a Large Club + 10 and did a two handed strong attack. Blew me up, but I had plenty of life to spare since it was so late in the game.

That said, I do feel like there were a couple of barrels that wouldn't explode on me either after hitting them.

I'm not sure if there's any place to farm them like in DS1 before Nito's, especially not at that point in the game. You *can* regain your humanity without effigies but its at a later point in the game, and you must have no effigies in your inventory.

It's in the faraway chest in the burning lava, in the big room with the movable platform right after
Smelter Demon
. It's in the back left corner of the room from where you start.

Ah crap, burning lava. Guess I'll try some suicide runs there

If you're near a boss room, just get yourself summoned. The more you win in coop, the more chances your humanity will be regained. Some enemies like the dogs in Bastille drop Effigies but they're not consistent.

I'm finding that I level up much more than in DS1.

Also, (enemy spoiler)
the dude with the dark axe in Huntsmen's Copse is super fast. He's nailing me a lot! I wish I used a shield...

There's a ladder across the platforms. If you climb up there are vases full of water. If you roll into them, you get covered in the water and it gives you a hefty fire defence for about 60 seconds or so. Combine it with the flame quartz and/or flash sweat and you won't take damage too quickly.

what I'm after is its giant soul.

that makes me think, is it possible to get them again from
the giants memories
with an ascetic ? or from
the giants of black gulch without rising the difficulty of the abyss dungeon in the area
?

yea leveling goes up faster until in this game until you hit a certain SL and then it requires a shitload of souls just to go up one level.

Sweet, will try that

FINALLY beat Dear
Freja
. After I got a notification of getting its soul, I had to pick it up from the ground too
(red glowing thing)
, but I only have 1 new inventory item. Were these things the same thing or unrelated?
It said Great Soul absorbed or something when I touched the red thing.

in a later area of the game, some enemies drop them quite frequently.
but if you fear losing your humanity too much, consider tracking down a life protection ring. they nullify death and the loss of souls and break in the process, but they aren't too expensive to repair. it's great to try your hand at a boss without the fear of loss.

So I've got a third branch of yore, trying to figure out where to use it. I got the statue in Bastille and in Majula, which one should I take next ? Lots of statues in Shaded Woods.

There's one in Shaded Ruins I recommend.
its for an enemy that blocks a shortcut back to the bonfire.

I usually waited until it was in the air, watched for where it was breathing fire then sprinted in the other direction. Most of the time you'll get away scott free, every so often one tick of it will graze you. The one to watch out for is the fire bomb, it'll knock you on your ass.

So I've just reached D
rangleic
C
astle
and am just getting fucking destroyed. Am I missing something here? These assholes are tough.

Is the DS2 strategy guide nice enough to grab?

I'm not playing until the PC version and I'm planning on going in blind at first like I did in DS1 (aside from perhaps a few suggestions on starting builds), but I'm sure that eventually I'll do some occasional research. The idea of having a nice physical book is kind of cool. I've only bought one strategy guide ever though so I'm not really sure what to expect quality-wise.

Hardest area for me as well. You just need to need to be good at dodging and blocking and figure out a good route. It's a brutal place for weapon durability.

It's really well done. I only flipped through it for the art and maps so far. It also has a lot of official lore stuff. I'm playing blind so I haven't really read the strategies involved.

If you cant fast roll and only block run past the mace dudes or cheese them with range or stairs... they have a endless combo and never stop swinging lol

These
Memories of...
stages, was it really necessary to have loading screens back to the regular
time
for these areas? As if there aren't enough loading screens as it is :|

Unless there's something really amazing to see/loot I'll probably give these a miss, it's too much fucking time for this loading screen - loading screen - firebomb death - loading screen - loading screen loop just for a few extra souls.

So after killing Freja:
what's the deal with the dragon carcass in there and the thing that doesn't do anything that really, really looks like it should?

You can go back there when you have aquired a certain item right at the end game its the same item you need for those giant statues in fotfg.

You want to unpetrify the statue near the 3rd bonfire in the Shaded Woods, then kill them. This will get you a key to free the last blacksmith/merchant.

If you want the platinum you will need to go to
Memory of vammar and speak to the chap right at the beginning

No shortcut to the fog gate across
the rope bridge from the Undead Lockaway
bonfire is there?

Looking forward to seeing where the
Pate
storyline goes. Knew there was more to that than there seemed

Finally got a copy. Installing on the PS3 now. I think i'm gonna start with dual swordsman, it seems pretty fun. Hope it's worth it.

you won't have a choice, I believe there is a mandatory boss fight in one of them.

So for people that have finished the game what's the general consensus? Did you enjoy Dark Souls 2 more than the first one? I just finished it last night and I'm sort of in two minds about it as I try and process everything.

I mean, I didn't know there's a third blacksmith.
She is locked away at the end of a cave in shaded ruins same place where you can find darkdiver grandahl. She wont help you there but she will move to the bottom of brightstone cove. she only lets you make more boss weapons she has a couple of spells to buy too.

OMG, I had no idea. I thought I totally explored all of Shaded Ruins already. I haven't really explored all of Shaded Forest yet. I'll walk through those areas tonight. I can destroy most regular enemies now.

location if you can't find her
Go up to where the cylinder like tower is so its on your left and keep going past it theres a small hole in the grass you can drop down into to find Darkdiver Grandahl. if you drop down from him you can make your way to the door at the end. Hope you like those fucking petrifying frogs.

Sinners rise is really fucking annoying. Those suicide guys are really fucking annoying. I can't unlock the door because everytime I do a hundred of those suicide guys just bum rush me and instant kill me while I;m still in my animation. Is there some kind of tip for this area?

That and she looks really cool gwaaaa.

Wow. First Dark Souls boss taken down with no damage on my very first attempt.
That slug thing in the Earthly Tower or whatever it's called.
When I walked in the room i was like fuuuuuuuuuuuuck, but dispatched of him with no trouble or challenge whatsoever. Game definitely seems easier overall than DS, though I DO have over 200 deaths apparently haha. 10 bosses down!

I give up on sinners rise. I've died so many times in there. Is there some kind of advice? I can't kill those fucking suicide guys,t hey just gang up on me and I die too fast too do anything. It's not even fair.

Oh, those frogs don't do much to me. I can avoid them easily. Thanks.

Just rush them or lure them one by one with a bow. They seem to be made to fuck with defensive/shield players.

I beat the game on NG twice (two different characters) and have started trying to do speedruns.

The mechanics changes were annoying while learning them, but now that I have a handle on them, the game is extremely fun. I'm pleased with the amount of depth the game has, and stuff that is seemingly designed as post game content.

There's a few questionable design changes, but for the most part the game is a blast. Hard to compare to the other games, there's a lot that is similar. I can't really place one game over another.
