Question about ascetics: if you burn one does it carry over into NG+? So if you use one in NG and move on to NG+ the area would be NG++?

Hard to feel bad about this. I've never met a Belltower invader who bothered engaging me until he had back up himself.

After I had two guys in a row run up the ladder to wait for a 2 man gank, I stopped giving a fuck about any sort of manners in that area. Stand behind the spawn point and crush them.
Drangleic for a dex build, Claymore if you're more toward strength. I like the claymore's swing better, but the drangleic ain't bad(Though it takes twinkling titanite to upgrade).

I've been using the Mirrah Sword, and it seems really good for 2H 20 STR/40 DEX builds. It scales at C/A.

If anyone is interested in the pickaxe:

You don't need to hope for the 1/1000 chance for a friendly pig to spawn. Just lead one of the two aggressive pigs from the campsite area down into the bottom of the cove to the mushrooms. They are in the large room before the spiderweb area where ~10 spiders drop from the ceiling.
The axe drops after they're done eating.

This is great.

I'm at the
Dragon Shrine. Kind of ran through the Dragon Aerie. I just couldn't handle it at the moment. Joined the Dragon Remnants Covenant, and I'm currently dueling for Scales. Got 11, so far. So much fun. I want that Armor.

How did you join that covenant? I met the
ancient dragon
but didn't get an offer to join.

Never thought I'd say this about a Souls game, but I can't wait to be done with this first playthrough. For me, the game feels too long. I'm exhausted by it and just want to get it completed. I think all I have left is
Vendrick, Ancient Dragon, Throne of Want
.

I know most people have said the game gets stronger in the later part, but I feel it drags just like the DS1 did. I want to start a new build but want the first one complete first, but I think by the time I complete it I will need a break from it. I was expecting to be addicted to making builds for months(years!) on end just DS1, but I don't see it - maybe once I start getting into co-op and PvP it will boost my enthusiasm, but as a single player experience I'm exhausted!

I've been ready to fight the final boss since Sunday and keep putting it off to mop up areas I didn't completely finish yet. I thought it was incredible from the start and only got better. Ridiculous amount of content in this game, and I loved all of it. Starting NG+ is much more exciting to me than even the Diablo 3 expansion I have waiting for me, the only other game I really even cared about that comes out this year. Dark Souls is just too gooooood.

Take the
Petrified Egg from Dragon Shrine
to the merchant at Iron Keep.

The area before the door that leads to the larger stairs that leads to the Ancient Dragon. Don't go through the door, go to the adjacent area from the Knights, and fall down to the area with two chest. Right chest is mimic. Take the path through the building to another Knight, take him out, and then go through the door. You will be invaded by an NPC. Kill him to claim a scale, and take the petrified egg at the top of the stairway.

Take that egg to the merchant in the Iron Keep. You can join through him.

Ok thanks, I will probably focus more on strength so I guess Claymore it is! I haven't seen many fans of the Royal Greatsword... It seems to not scale very well.

It has been interesting seeing Yahtzee's view of the Souls franchise evolve. When he first reviewed Demon's Souls it pissed me off, not so much because he panned it with his usually snarky asshole remarks, but because it was clear he didn't even bother venturing past stage 1-2 before writing it off. Then somehow, he gets into Dark Souls and not only changes his view on the series but actually enjoys it. He even remarks in his review that he should go back and replay DeS.

His remarks on DS2 are spot on and I think a lot of fans will agree. It doesn't break a lot of new ground but it's not a bad game by any means, it's just more of what we love.

Any vendors in the game that sell any sceptic's spice? I've trying ti find as much as possible so I can get Sunlight Spear's faith requirement down to 45.

I don't think so. You can't even drop those items for other players to pick up, so I think they really wanted to control the amount of those things to prevent abuse.

Drat, now I'm going to have to pick through the game for any that I missed. Anyone know if there are any behind any Pharros locks? I've largely ignored those on this playthrough since I didn't know how often I'd need the stones.

Otherwise just wait for NG+.

My BF is the worst for not beating a souls game - he gets to the final boss gate, 'doesn't want it to be over', then starts a new character (instead of doing NG+).

After sinking a few hundred hours into it on the PS3, I don't think it was well after the PC release that he finally beat Gwyn.

He's already sunk over 100 hours into one character in DKSII - again, at the final boss (+ optional content left to do), and decides to roll a new character - and has already put in an ungodly amount of time into that one.

Running around, farming, collecting items, random PvP/co-op/etc, collecting every last item possible - and even then "I can't bring myself to say it's over..." and starts anew with another build.

Seems barely anyone two hands weapons (outside of halberds). Even when I invaded/was invaded rarely saw it.

True. But if you're two handing and repeatedly break someone's defenses then I've noticed they eventually start two-handing too. It's funny to watch.

Pretty sure I picked up at least one in Sinner's Rise.

well damn. I don't know, it never happened to me. I did get invaded, which was really annoying when trying to clear
belfry luna
, but I try to engage invaders immediately.
I can understand, but at SL120ish, it still looks really douchey and a huge waste of time on the gankers part.

Trying to pvp right now and everywhere I go it's been double gank and triple gank. I'm using a red soapstone but no one wants to have a legit duel :(

Some guy used some magic attack on me (with the spheres above the head) but it wasn't blue colored, so I'm guessing it was a Hex attack?

It was powerful as hell. Took me out in one fell swoop. And had a nasty homing function. I couldn not avoid it in the space and distance I had. Any idea what that was?

Is no one using Vengarl's rusted sword you can buy from him for 7K? It scales great with strength and has a very good moveset. It upgrades with Twinkling Titantite and at +2 is nearly as strong as my +10 mace.

Sounds like the equivalent of Pursuers. Not sure what it's called in this game, but Pursuers was OP as hell in DkS1.

it's called affinity, and it's really great to begin a barrage of spells. :D

Dark Glove scales with how Hollow you are. So if you are staying Human it is worse, though I guess you could keep both in your inventory depending on your status of life.
It also doesn't seem to make a difference for weapon enchantments, so it's useful to keep in the off hand for that reason if you get Flame Weapon.

A guy invaded me with dual caestus, naked with the predator mask and he wrecked my shit. Those things hit like a ton of bricks and are super fast.

Stun for days too. The range is the killer part though, you'll wail on someone and you'll smack them outta range of your fists :(

I'm not sure how a dex pure melee is supposed to do the
dual pursuer
fight in ng+ without summoning help. Shit is rough. Guess I'll go get the havels set and try gouging armor or something.

I want to know more about this build.

I beat the game yesterday with a build like this. Dual cestus is kinda good actually. In PvP you can stun lock someone to death and in PvE you can kill enemies in one stamina bar easy. Only difficult stuff is getting better at dodging and getting in on a mob in the tight window of openings they give you because your range is shit.

Overall I found it to be a lot of fun and the only time I used range stuff was in Shrine of Amana and I only summoned for the Watchers fight.

I will protect this belfry with my dual caestus.

I have actually been summoned to help with a few bosses and rocked the dual Cestus. It is actually very viable and staggers pretty quickly because of rapid succession of attacks.

Definitely, I hope they add some different fist weapons in an expansion because they are actually fun to use.

Oh man, it would be awesome to get a fist weapon that acts like the Dark Hand from Dark Souls. Could turn it into a celestial shield but still pummel people with it.

Thing I noticed, the combos for that auto-chain, so if you dodge the guy is left wide open. But Dual Caestus's are legit now.

does anyone know if you can use bonfire ascetics to
get another giant soul in black gulch or in the memories of giants? and do ascetics make dark chasms in the area harder?

God damn this game feels really long. I actually liked S
hrine of
A
mana
despite being pure melee, was a really cool looking place and only really had one rough spot.

Currently in A
ldia's
K
eep
and it just kinda hit me that I have not died to a boss in quite awhile. It's sorta weird, as I think this game on average is harder than Dark Souls 1 but it's more in the enemy makeups.

So I'm level 100 with 35 strength/20 dex and have been using a fire longsword+10 since pretty much the start of the game. I have a feeling my next zone
Iron Keep
won't be too kind to any weapon with fire on it, so I'd love some recommendations as for what weapons I should look into.
