Phil Spencer on Halo 2 Anniversary

I really hope they don't fuck this game up. Just make it pretty and make it 1080p/60fps. DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE.

If this doesnt come out this is the cruelest tease ever. All I want is the mp from Halo 2 on XB1. They dont need to change a thing.

As one of the tiny handful of freaks known as Halo fantards who don't play multiplayer, for me the cruelest tease would be if nothing comes of Frankie's relatively recent "Actually, it wouldn't be impossible for us to finally release the Halo 2 E3 2003 game play demo to the public" comment. Seriously, that's the one thing that keeps me looking forward to the next Anniversary from 343.

I think MS has finally realized that they should be listening to consumers if they want to succeed in this console generation.

At this point Phil Spencer is just trolling us. Halo 2 anniversary is definitely a thing and he's just teasing us until it's officially announced at E3.

Halo 2 multiplayer will make me buy an Xbox One. I have no trust in 343 to make a good Halo. But dammit Halo 2 multiplayer would easily make me purchase one. Like, I'm holding off on picking out a next-gen system till after E3 solely to see if this really exists. This is a major system seller to me.

I hope its Next Gen graphics, with a full on Halo 2 MP experience.

That game reinvigorated my love for online shooters.

Ahhhhhhhhhahahahahahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Mwahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

there are those that thought this day would never come

Phill being a tease. Please announce it already, pretty please.

The only thing you need to do is put a new graphical layer on top of it ala Halo CEA. Leave everything else untouched.

Super bounces are fine as long as you can't get out of Burial Mounds with the bomb again.

Eh, dropping the bomb in that little hole on top of Zanzibar's base was annoying as hell too. Superbouncing offered more annoyance than enjoyment honestly. There was a lot of annoying tricks people would do.

Yea good point. I loved the assault game type until it turned into a waiting game. Sure they made changes to the game type but by then it was no fun.

Also, I really want the old school joining stuff to return. Half of the fun was going into a party and talking with everyone there as well as seeing what map was rolled.

Absolutely! CTF > Assault though. It just worked better, but bomb could be really fun sometimes.

I miss the days of everyone having a friendly chat while waiting for the map and gametype to load. It was always nice, with the occasional ass though. Proximity chat was the fucking shit too.

Pretty sure he means halo ce didn't have real multiplayer because of no online and no buildout of ranking systems, lobby balancing, etc..

Was going to say the same thing. I think when people talk about MP these days, it is on-line/rankings, etc. Halo 1 I played a ton of back in the day once every week with family and friends, usually kids vs. adults with 4 Xbox's connected via lan and it was great fun. Like you said, I think Phil is talking more in the area of online MP and such.

is this confirmed for this year? cause i think halo 5 or something is coming, no?

The Rumor Mill is that Halo 2 is this year with a Halo 5 Beta invite packed with it for whenever they are ready for a Halo 5 MP Beta. From my understanding, Halo 5 is 2015.

It's not even announced yet. Halo 5 is rumored to be delayed to 2015, accidentally confirmed by Steve Downes (voice of Master Chief).

where did the rumor of the delay come in?
could be possible, pretty sure they are still trying to push for 2014

Yes, it's annoying to see so many ask for a blind remake of Halo 2's multiplayer, warts and all. It'll be very sad, because for all the good parts of Halo 2's MP, it would be taking a huge number of steps back.

Here's the list of stuff that was broken in Halo 2:

* Plasma pistol homing - almost impossible to avoid
* Power weapon spawning - you could make it so they never respawn by never dropping the empty weapon
* Superbouncing - hiding outside map, hiding objectives outside of map, camping at top of map with power weapons
* Netcode - for all the complaining about Halo 3, Halo 2's was infinitely worse. Don't even get started on the exploits.
* Rocket launcher homing (non flying vehicles) - You just got a triple kill, and you didn't even need to aim
* Sudden death - no way to put a cap on it, so games can be extended indefinitely unless turned off entirely
* Dual wielding - there was a reason why this was removed from ODST onwards, and barely used in Halo 3.
* Infinite energy sword
* Melee/grenades were horrendously broken at launch.

There are so many opportunities to improve on Halo 2 with fairly minor changes, if competent people are in charge of it. It would not take much to fix the above, and a blind remake would be a huge waste.

I agree that there are some serious warts on halo 2. Everyone forgets because for the time it was such a good game but it had some serious technical issues and major balance issues. The problem is that it will never be right for anyone so they have to leave it entirely alone. The only thing i could see them fixing is the bouncing, but that may take too much work...so just leave it alone

Forza Horizon 2 and Halo 2 will get me to buy an Xbox One.

A $399 price will make it sweater.

You and a lot of people. I know that a lot of 360 racing fans have stated Forza Horizon 2 is a game changer for them, but even at $449.99 with Forza 5 or Titanfall and if FH2 and Halo 2 come out that will be very tempting for a lot of people.

I know in my circle of friends that the $449.99 Forza Bundle has pushed them into a Xbox One, while other chose to go the TItanfall route. Either way, it is a tremendous deal right now, they just need to announce these two games officially and Crackdown 3 and they will get a lot of people to "Jump In".

I guess all the system link parties my friends and I had with Halo 1 didn't exist since it must be Live or nothing in his mind.

Please have a PC port please have a PC port please have a PC port. ;____;

I'll consider an XB1 when it's $350.

Two best characters?

Two best characters.

I'm one of those crazy people that loves the campaign, despite all its flaws.

I mostly agree, but I think dual wielding will have to come back since that's really at the core of the game and isn't just hopelessly broken like some of the other stuff. Hopefully for people interested in the "full" experience that'll be available in custom games.

You have not heard of ntkrnl? Or are you saying his rumors don't mean a thing?

The name looks familiar, but I don't really 'subscribe' to people's rumors.
I usually just ask my friends/colleague's. He's the guy who leaked a bunch of stuff recently that turned out true right?

I'm not a big fan of straight up leakers, they hurt the industry.
I however, am always down to talk with people who provide insight and guidance and industry nuggets.
