Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

Nothing to do with gameplay mechanics.

I'd rather be fighting in locations from my favourite games rather than on a floating platform with those locations as a background.

Mario Circuit, Pirate Ship, Bridge of Eldin etc were the best Brawl stages.
Smashville, Delfino Plaza etc were gross.

basically.

The only flying platform stage I rather like is the F-Zero one.

But...they do fight in the locations of that game, infact you fight in several different places of the same stage of those games.

I'll have to heavily agree with this sentiment...Like, for example, the Kid Icarus stage in Brawl. I kept thinking "Man, in Smash 64 or Melee, I'd be fighting on that background instead of this Battlefield copycat".

However, in Delfino Plaza you -do- get to fight in the Plaza's locations, so I don't think it's bad at all in this regard.

I didn't mind Skyworld, the whole place is made of floating platforms anyway.

What? You fight on actual Delfino Plaza for a lot of it, how does that make it worse than those mentioned?

Personally not the biggest floaty platform fan in the world, but hey-ho.

I hope they remake the Pirate Ship for both versions. I loved that stage, so much fun.

Precisely why, while not outright hating or disliking it much, it made me disappointed at the lost potential. Both of the previous Smash games offered more creative layouts, or mashed regular ones elegantly using a stage's elements. It seemed to me that several Brawl ones just imposed unexciting layouts over detailed backgrounds, not doing as good a job of making them part of the stage as other installments.

What is it with Sakurai and dead cities..?

Put some life into them. :(
Ah, you just helped me realize what made me feel so weird about certain stages. I think the true crime of this stage is not the flying platform aspect (I like those stages) but the lack of life. There's no people, no ambiance, no big-city atmosphere! The actual Pokemon game did a good job of that by having random NPCs and dialogue conversations thrown in your face (as well as annoyingly rigid camera angles forcing you to feel small).

Likewise, the lack of Piantas or living things in Delfino Plaza made it seem a little off . Now I understand that having so many renders would slow the game down, but I think even distant 2D sprites would be better and not really slow anything down. I wouldn't even mind if the extras are as generic as the audience in the Punch Out stage. It would certainly be a step up from having stages be as lively as a Big Rigs Over the Road Racing track.

Two things:
1) Olimar's plucking another Pikmin. I don't believe the ground part of the pluck animation appeared if you had a full Pikmin roster in Brawl, so at least 3 Pikmin confirmed?
2) Does the leaf above the yellow Pikmin look off to anyone else? It looks way higher than the yellow Pikmin's leaf should be.
Or maybe it's just 3 am and I'm sleep deprived lol.

It looks to be in the middle of its jump or landing animation.

Pikmin 3 looks good but I won't buy a system for one game.
The Wonderful 101 looks good but I won't buy a system for one game.
Super Mario 3D World looks good but I won't buy a system for one game.
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze looks good but I won't buy a system for one game.
Mario Kart 8 looks good but I won't buy a system for one game.
Super Smash Bros looks good but I won't buy a system for one game.
Bayonetta 2 looks good but I won't buy a system for one game.
X looks good but I won't buy a system for one game.
Metroid Dread looks good but I won't buy a system for one game.

I'm aware these are probably all posted by different people.

I know people who said almost all of these.

Yeah, as it is probably for the best to maintain a constant smoothness, it would/does kill stage potential.

Also, welcome back from the River Styx.

Nice to see the mods gave you aother chance. :D

I just realized that your no longer dea-er banned

This stage looks really cool, I'm psyched about it.

I'm thinking the camera and its view of the tower might rotate dynamically and completely independently of the actual stage while the platforms slowly scroll by and shift throughout, kind of like Big Blue or Poké Floats but with normal platforms instead of F-Zero cars or Pokémon balloons. Basically, I don't think the platforms and the background actually have anything to do with one another.

Wait... has every PotD been informative this week? If so, that's a real treat. Also, from the sounds of it. Prism Tower will be similar to Poke Floats. That makes me happy. :3
This was my thought as well. The "securing footholds" makes it sound like the platforms will move out from under you and you need to catch up.

Also, I wonder if anything else shows up while you're scrolling. I mean it's a cool idea, but kinda boring. I mean, regardless if it's Delfino-style or Floats-style, you're just rotating around a gray pillar for the entire match, right?

It kinda seems at least more thematic in Pilotwings.

Also, I don't know why, but fighting on a flying ship is more acceptable to me than fighting on a floating platform. Some kinda weird hangup I guess

I agree, flat stage are boring.
I loved Brinstar, Pokéfloats, Peach's Castle, Onetts, etc.. so I'd say Melee had better stage.
But Brawl had New Pork City and 75m <3

Both or these were terrible. Though I think New Pork City edges out 75m, as at least the latter was a gimmick stage, while the former was very disappointing.

Screw these tiny stages. I want more big ones like Melee Hyrule Castle and Temple. As long as they don't make it like New Pork City.

I'd say a Tetris stage, but they don't own it :<
It'd make for a better fit of the two Tetris songs we got compared to making them only listenable on Luigi's Mansion.

Speaking of which, wonder if they'll get permission again for music or whatever.

Pretty good update today. This week have been fantastic in term of information and details.

So Lumiose City stage is very similar to Delfino Plaza, so I bet that it will be fun stage.

Pushmo/Crashmo stage.
Seriously, this would work great as a 3DS stage as long as the design of the "puzzle" was done correctly. It would be cool to see it change over time (either during a match &/or each time you select it), but I assume people might prefer it just being one puzzle.

At the very least, Mallo should be an trophy to view. Maybe a song from one of the games.
