Consensus:
Suspenseful and politically astute, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a superior entry in the Avengers canon and is sure to thrill Marvel diehards.

Worth watching in 3D? I've been trying to hunt down a 2D screening and can't find one.

Also, should I watch it in AVX or IMAX? Mayve I should just check it in a standard theater.

I am working until 10 next Thursday. The 11:15 show is LieMAX 3D, but there is an 11:45 2D. I need to see which screen they have the 2D on, because some of the screens at my theater are bigger than the LieMAX here.

Best movie Marvel has put out. If anybody is worried about the tone being too much like Thor 2 (which I didn't have a problem with but I know some did), that's not a problem with this. There are jokes and moments of levity but it's almost nothing like what other Marvel movies have done with the humor.

This is great to hear. I'm really hyped for this now.

Gonna need to hunt down a 2D screening then. Everywhere I look, it is 3D, and I hate it.

It'll be worth it. The movie clearly wasn't designed for 3D anyway, and it's really clear and sharp in 2D. Considering the way most of the action was choreographed, I can't imagine it being as impressive and entertaining in 3D, simply because it would be too distracting. The action is SO GOOD in this film, it would be a disservice to use gimmicks to water it down. So many great hand to hand fights, close up gun battles, etc. Maybe the Falcon flying scenes might be cool in 3D if they did the post-processing really well, but it still wouldn't be worth the rest of it being in 3D too.

Cinemas in my country won't show a movie in 2D if there is a 3D version available. That said, 3D in this wasn't needed and only made the movie look worse. As duckroll said, the close hand-to-hand combat, with quick cuts and tight shots, were screwed up by the 3d. It also made every shot darker than it supposed to be, as usual.

The movie is fantastic regardless, but if you have a choice go see the 2d version.

I thought the movie was good. I loved Cap actually fighting with the shield and really use it to his advantage. They also put him in some great fights and scenarios, which were fun to watch. It was also part a Black Widow movie with here kicking major ass at his side. There were also some good quiet moments of character development and espionage, which made the actions-beats so much stronger.
The Winter Solider himself wasn't really the main bad guy, but he still pushes Cap physical and emotional. What makes him a much better match, then any villain in the first movie.

Chris Evans is still the perfect actor for playing the part of Captain America. A simple, sympathetic, nice guy, who follows his ideals without hitting you over the head with it. As an European i never felt like the movie ever went "America fuck yeah". Still strange for movie with such an name. Instead he values the basic principals of his nation, something everyone can agrees with.

But the movie misses "very good" because of the very slow build up. There is a lot of explaining of past events, characters relationships. character and organisation instructions etc.. The movies wasn't able to balance those quiet and action moments accordingly, which made the already long movie feel even longer. Falcon gets the worst out it, since he doesn't get enough screen time to have an impact on the audience.
But he still has one great air-battle!

All in all a good movie. It is a much better action flick then the first Captain America and on par with Thor 2, even so there both different movies.

Final Thoughts:
- The animations of end credits looked fantastic and a lot like the great posters of the movie.
- Cap fighting The Winter Soilder on the highway makes me want a Shadowrun-Movie! This was, what i imagine a fight between a Street Samurai and a Adept looks like.

The mid credits stinger is a direct lead-in to Avengers Age of Ultron, while the post credits scene is a sort of epilogue to the movie itself. Both are pretty good.

Saw it, good stuff. Probably the best MCU film since the original Iron Man (mind you, I'm not as big a fan of The Avengers as some and would rate it and most of the other films as solid 7/10 material; this is probably 8/10).

I especially enjoyed the clear, suspenseful way the action scenes are shot. It's like the anti-Bay.

Yeah if the movie is out in your country and you want to give your impression of story-related stuff can you please take it to the spoiler thread? It's there for a reason.

I don't think "Marvel's Dark Knight" is a good comparison for this film. I mean the most obvious problem with the comparison is... you can't see jack shit in the action in Nolan movies. Complete opposite here. I would say that this is closer to... the Casino Royale of Marvel movies maybe? :)

i thought that rises had somewhat coherent action scenes. not the most inspired but they used far less quick cuts than tdk and bb.

Pretty sure only BB uses quick cuts. TDK and Rises, Nolan just don't give a shit anymore.
Rises only decent fight was between Bane and Batman in the middle, and it was all because of Tom Hardy.

Upside, inside out he's livin la vida loca, He'll push and pull you down, livin la vida loca
Watched it yesterday, and quite liked it. I thought Falcon was going to be kinda lame and ended up being a total badass. Well, everyone actually, the action scenes are downright excellent.
Also, I was disappointed
that Hawkeye was nowhere to be seen, with this being a SHIELD movie and actually taking longer than a day (unlike IM3 and T2)

But the 2 or 3 Bond movies before Casino Royale were total shit, and that doesn't apply to Marvel :p

So how do you guys think it's going to do at the box office? Thor 1 made $450M, Thor 2 $645M and Cap1 only $371M.

Yup, and word of mouth seems to be running wild for this film. Twice today I've heard people chatting about the action scenes, I imagine there will be a lot of double-dippers.
