Guys, you know Chico didn't actually rape Paz, right? He talked instead, remember? That's what leads to that awful scene later where Paz propositions him for no reason.

At the same time, putting sex appeal out there so blatantly and then making it retroactively really uncomfortable seems like something they'd do, so what the hell do I know. It disregards all logic and storytelling sense for the sake of impact, but that's nothing new for the series at all.

I thought he did end up being forced to have sex with Paz and that's what ultimately broke him. I think the line where Skull Face says "you're a real man now soldier" was meant to allude to this.

The entire "forced sex" implication between Paz and Chico is very vague. Unless they drugged him up I don't really see a 13-year-old kid performing a sexual act considering the insane amount of pressure/stress he is in. He's 13, man.

I took the "you're a real man now" more of a "you made a choice by talking/confessing about MSF and you took responsibility like a man".

Besides, what was the point anyway? To degrade them both?

So I've just been reading this interview and Kojima says the plot he originally wrote had Chico locked in a cell beside Paz, where he was made to watch her rot (utterly decompose) beside him. He says his staff questioned what was wrong with his mind after reading that lol.

That is very different than the direction they went in. If she had been allowed to rot like that then I wonder how they would have handled the whole bomb on the helicopter thing. Maybe it would have been inside Chico.
 
Can somebody explain something to me about the Mother Base VR Simulator in the companion app?

What does the button in the bottom right do. It shows the MSF logo with an arrow pointing to a clock. I have no idea when or why I am supposed to press it. The time goes down by 30 seconds each time you press it.

This isn't my style of game, but I am playing it to get bonuses when starting The Phantom Pain. What is the best strategy to employ here? What I am trying to obtain?

They would never actually do that on tape. It could only ever be implied.
 
I could totally see lgbt organizations being upset with kojima if this shit is true. Mutilating yourself and then dressing all sexy like not because gender dysphoria but because war and torture is bad mmmkay.
 
I don't really buy the argument that the rape tape was edgy for edgy's sake. It contextualizes how much of a fucked up individual Skullface is and it's also a realistic portrayal of what might happen in these torture military camps(things like the standford's prison experiment are only proof of this).

I was very shocked after coming off of Peace Walkers true ending, I was shocked but I didnt feel like it was out of place. Most of the character development in peace walker was optional anyway so I can definitely see why some people who think things are out of place. Hell I bet many didnt even know there was a true ending to peace walker(I only found out today after having finished the regular peace walker ending, it blew my mind.).

I don't think Chico is quiet but I wouldnt actually mind lol..
 
Kojima has been saying that he plans on tackling taboo and mature themes. And i've said it a few times in the past that he's probably not mature enough to tackle whatever those themes might be. After this new theory has come up I still feel the same more than ever.

If the LGBT community didn't get riled up by an immortal, ballet spinning, phallic knife wielding vampire or a sadistic, crotch grabbing Russian, I'm going to imagine they'll be okay if Chico did transform himself into Quiet. Partly because the characters in MGS aren't defined just by their sexuality, which is a good thing, and partly because the LGBT community is mostly tolerant and awesome about this kinda stuff anyway.

What the fuck is "mature" anyway. Isn't that rather subjective?
I see people throwing around the word a lot without actually justifying their accusations of someone being immature. I don't think his approach to what happened in Ground Zeroes is immature at all. You might think otherwise and that's fine but that only shows how subjective it is.
All I see is people accusing the scenes of being edgy for the sake of edgy without going into specifics about why. It's easy to dismiss the things by simply saying "EW SO EDGY AND HERP DERP IMMATURE", I hate when people are dismissive like that(without proper justification I mean), GOD it gets on my nerves.
 
Yeah, I don't buy Chico/Quiet theory one bit. But it's pretty awesome to see such speculation.

I was a bit bummed that the Radiohead theory didn't pan out. That did get me pretty pumped to play GZ.

I dont really care if my opinion gets on your nerves. If you think being edgy for the sake of being edgy or herp derp writing as you so eloquently put it is mature then thats on you.

Absolutely, but I can definitely see some organizations being offended if their group was given a character like Vamp or Volgin just because they'd assume they're being made fun of when they're totally not.
 
My god. Something so ridiculous, yet something I could actually see working. It's not a crazy leap to imagine Chico self-castrating because of what he was forced to do to Paz and kind of losing his mind, you know? So if you can believe that, how hard is it to see him recovering enough to go the whole way with reassignment?

Your opinion doesn't get on my nerves, the fact that it is so poorly backed up and dismissive does. it's not the opinion itself that annoys me, it's the way that it is presented. Im not saying you have to change it either, I was just making an observation.
Also I don't think it's edgy for the sake of being edgy or herp derp writing, I think your opinion is more so Herp derp writing than kojima's plot. And hey don't take this personally. Im not trying to offend you or anything, Im simply giving an opinion on your opinion.

I'm skeptical about your view, theres nothing to really be offended about with those characters. The two characters you mentioned are both gay and pose an interesting dichotomy which is interesting/good. I can see some transgenderes peeps getting upset about a boy emasculating himself and dressing all sexy like for reaaons that don't include gender dysphoria, but who knows.

If the whole Chico = Quiet thing, which, despite being an interesting theory, I don't think is true, there could be any number of reasons he could have that I could see most people somewhat understanding to a degree. Personally I think Quiet is a completely new character and her background will be different than anything we could predict.

Hmm I actually am not. I bear no ill will towards you. I was even having fun, the infinite loop thing was supposed to illustrate that. I was hoping you would try to back up your statements and start up an actual debate and a battle of wits. I just pointed out that I thought your opinion was weak and poorly constructed, how is that supposed to offend me? It has literally zero bearing on my existence. Irritating is different from offensive.(And I meant irritating in the sense that you are completely dismissing somebody else's hard work with a simple,shallow,dismissive and throwaway comment devoid of any kind of proper justification or substance, If I am going to shit on someone's artistic work(be it music, writing, whatevr else), atleast Im going to have the decency of elaborating on my negativity. Negavity in itself is fine and critical thinking is absolutely paramount but it's a fine line between having constructive criticism or having petty disposable remarks. I will reiterate that this is simply my take on it, Im not so far up my own ass as to think that what I believe in is an undeniable fact.

Apparently, the Japanese voice actor for Chico voices multiple female characters in the series.

This theory just came out of nowhere today but it's kind of starting to click.

People saying David Hayter will voice a cameo as "Main Snake" don't seem to know the Japanese voice actor is still the same for big boss.
 
And barring a flash forward in Phantom Pain, how would Hayter Snake even make an appearance? He'd be 9 years old at the most.

The Japanese voice "actor" is actually an actress, and its very common for women to voice children.
