Never heal, yeah, I'd rather take the death than heal. Makes me sad when people do so, and totally breaks the pacing of the fight. I do get some easy punishes, but when people run away and hide behind enemies, I find it lame.

It speeds things up too. Also can't stand people that try to attack you when you bow (I do Prostration).

wait, where can you see the number of deaths?

I had 800+ death and I'll have more by NG. I probably have near 1000 now. lol

I'm a mainly melee build with a bow on the side, but I still find Pyromancy extremely useful. Besides, the entry barrier for it isn't that bad to just use it, but to get really high damage off it you'll need to level some stuff a bit.
I just don't enjoy it really it's just not the same as throwing lightning at people or grant's two handed attack is.

Speaking of the A scaling on the mastadon greatsword where's the earliest place to get one?

Some dude in Iron Keep PvP lured me to the merchant and was cowering near him, healing up and crap while I didn't want to strike near him.

Naturally, I beat his ass.

I just got to the Dragon Aerie and was shocked to find dragons flying around all over the place. Was that picture showing no dragons in the area from the "Oh no the graphics!" thread just bullshit? Like, were people straight up lying about it? That's pretty upsetting.

The dragons don't really fly around that bridge anymore, but yeah, it's not representative because loads of dragons are just flying elsewhere.

Get yourself an Avelyn +10.

In PvE maybe. In PvP it's complete shit. It's too predictable and easily blockable. If you rely on it a lot, you'll just get burnt.

Speaking of PvP, the Avelyn crossbow is hilarious in PvP when upgraded. It fires three fast bolts and is pretty powerful. The downside is that once you fire, you're open for a few seconds. Some people can predict it and block it too. But if you can surprise people with it, it's awesome.

It requires 25 Strength so it's nice for a Strength build. Str builds are awesome though. Powerful in PvE, and in PvP I can use Havel's greatshield for 45 strength with ridiculously good resists. Infuse that shit with magic, then laugh at mages. The Avelyn can be used to surprise mages too.

Mastodon Greatsword is a great strength weapon in PvP too. It scales A in Strength. The Halberd is powerful in PvE, but not so good in PvP.

Playing smart, I just tear people apart in PvP. Strength build is too good. I love the guard break action too.

Avelyn is good but overrated atm. You can react to the startup, roll through, and punish every single time. It's good if you catch people by surprise though, especially with the potential damage output.

They do. If you take too long crossing it one will fuck your shit too :(

In PvP, pyromancy is predictable. Though it can do notable chip damage if blocked if your shield doesn't block fire well.

Drops from the elephant enemies in Door of Pharros.

I know that feeling. I did it 3 times as a caster and you just got to be patient and lear his moves. Put on the ring Redeye Ring and something for faster stamina recovery, circle strafe him with a shield that blocks 100% physical. After he's done with one of his attacks, you have a window where you can use 1 spell, 2 if your casting times are low enough. Never use 3 spells or he will attack you during your casting. After you've used 1 or 2 spells, let your stamia recover for a second and then repeat, with your shield up. Lucatiel is not affected by the lava and she does a good amount of damage even on NG+++ bonfire ascetic level. It helps if you try to have her at the back of the Rotten. This way, his attacks won't accidentaly hit her when he's aming for you. It also helps if you kite him in a way that he is positioned on top of the round lava pit to the right so you don't run the risk of stepping into it.

edit: Also, clear the path to the boss of those poison spitting statues so Lucatiel doesn't get poisoned.

Yeah I definitely have to be patient. My biggest peeve is that my damage is SO LOW for him (since he's NG+). I'll hit 170 from a GHSA, and my Soul Vortex gets a total of about 160ish on him. I'm just going to move on and come back later (hopefully more powerful).

I got completely caught off guard by someone who dual wielded Avelyns (it's possible to power stance Avelyns, right? I think I was hit by both), one burst took 80% of my health. That's more than getting hit by a Flame Swathe for me.

Get yourself and an Avelyn +10.

Mine's at +9. I have a slab I'm not using so I may as well get it to +10.

Is yours infused? I have a Raw one.

I'm using Heavy Bolts...is there anything better that I can buy?

Like all weapons, if you spam, you'll get punished.

Used liberally, it can be very effective

They do. If you take too long crossing it one will fuck your shit too :(

I didn't notice too much. Maybe because I didn't break many eggs. They're still around though.

I legitimately feel the purest form of pity for the people who are refusing to play this game because of some hyped up graphics controversy.

Graphics are great and all, but as long as they're not terrible, they don't make too much of a difference to me. The gameplay is what's most important, and the Souls games always deliver. They make you work. And you end up always getting to places where you're like "I'll never be able to get through this place." But you do. And the game delivers a sense of accomplishment like few other games I've ever played.

Just buy elemental bolts. I didn't think about infusing. I'm not doing PvP seriously, just for some covenant ranks.

This fight is all about patience and letting stamina recover before attacking, especially for a caster. His attacks are easy to sidestep, dodge or block (only his dark magic blast can get dangerous if he does it repeatedly). 170 damage is about what I did with GHSA, just wear a ring for 3 or 4 attunement slots and take 40 of those with you. I woudn't bother with more powerful spells because they take longer to cast and break the flow of combat. He doesn't get a lot tougher, even on NG++(+) you'll still do around 130 damage without leveling up any further. You might take a melee weapon just in case you run out of spells. And don't underestimate Lucatiel. She can do away with at least a 3rd of his healthbar when the fight goes on a bit longer. Good luck!

I dunno. In a place like Iron Keep where there's not a lot of room to maneuver width-wise (with a dash of tasty lag added into the mix), it can be pretty damaging to your health or stamina.

The game certainly caters more towards your out-and-out STR weapons. I think I'll respec back after NG+; maybe even earlier if I'm getting my ass handed to me.

Why does the Drangleic Sword scale better with STR over DEX when scaling for STR is C and DEX is B? I'm going to respec soon and want to spec into the right thing.

Dude shouldn't be running anyways. I never heal myself, so I punish people with Avelyn when they run away and do it. One guy ran away further in and was healing himself with that Pyromancy spell and I took him down with the Avelyn.

Why wouldn't he be running? The guy is outnumbered 2v1 and his only hope is to get some distraction from the NPCs.

I may or may not be focusing on only upgrading katanas.

tumblr_n3896t1p6Z1turh9lo1_1280.jpg

we should be allowed to have a sword in our character's mouths in this game.

I don't remember if people said the dragons were gone. If they did, they probably complained because there were a lot more dragons flying around the bridge (and one that could kill you) in the preview build that aren't in the final build. I even saw a dragon in that gif people always link.
The number of dragons flying around depends on how many eggs you smash. Smash a lot of eggs and more fly around and you have less time to get across the bridge before an attack.

Are the stamina numbers known? Haven't seen them talked about much. Running dual Morning Stars right now and can normal-swing them three times each with Stamina at 133 (END 33).

1. Can I get this number up to eight (four swings each)?
2. If not, is it known at which point I got the six swings and can de-level back to that number?

Probably "figure it out yourself" questions but figured I throw it out there.

Sidenote: I bitched about this in DS1 and I'm gonna bitch about it again: it's bullshit the different covenants don't allow for different color phantoms across the board. I want to put down a blue soapsign and spawn in as a blue phantom when I'm in the Sentinels, obvious example, and even for Blood Bros, how perfect would it be if summoning red soapsigns was a crapshoot: they might help you (just a blood cov member putting down his white soapsign) or they might try to kill you, you'd never know (this would take the begging gesture to another level too). Light blue for Way of Blue, green for Rat cov (poison+ ring their cov's reward) and etc., you get the idea. Mostly I'm just jealous of Sunbros' yellow phantoms and want to be blue instead of yellow or white when doing jolly co-op. In fact, I lean toward small soapstoning because I think shades look awesome in that steel gray. Also would give me another reason to be in this covenant since summoning never fucking works. tldr: let me be dark blue when using my white soapstone!

Hey guys, just started playing DSII today, and I'm having a heck of a lot of trouble with the three bronze sentinels in the Lost Bastille. I've spent pretty much all my human effigies trying to beat it, lost 10k souls in the area loaded to the ass with enemies right before the fog, and have reached the point where the enemies aren't even appearing anymore.

Does anyone have any tips on how I should proceed with them or, since I heard about it, skip them all together?

If you just started, then you probably should start exploring other areas. Although the areas seem designed in such a way so as to lead you to Bastille, I would say that going to Bastille so early is kind of a trap. It's probably one of the more difficult areas in the game, and bosses in other areas would be much easier to deal with. Try going back to Majula and look for other locations you can travel to. They all should be much more manageable.

those fucking Royal Soldier mobs...

I actually liked The Gutter a lot. I never did figure out how to get to that second bonfire but I explored the crap out of the place. I loved that it actually required the use of the torch.

So far really enjoying the game.

I think it's far better than the first game for several reasons, the main one being the atmosphere. It really has an amazung feel to it, the loacations being prettier and more varied.

The addition of life gems really helps to balance the combat, and the teleportation system saves a lot of hassle and makes everything more fresh and less tedious.

I also think the bosses are more balanced, from what I've playes thus far, and the level design is overall better.

Gives some vibes from Demon's Souls as well.

Summon the npc phantom in one of the jail cells, the fight becomes much more manageable with her around.

You should have no trouble dealing with the first one. When the other 2 appear, I suggest dropping down the bottom floor and attempt separate them. Having both of them on the upper floor is bad news. Avoid having both of them aggro on the phantom, as soon as the phantom dies, the fight becomes nearly impossible

Well, I guess I can go back and try that Hilde area with the giant statues.

Still, I'm having a lot of fun with the game. Forest of Giants was great to go through.

Thanks! I'll definitely try again soon! Maybe I'll try with just me and Lucatiel (I've tried summoning another phantom, but I think that gives the boss more health).

Use a 100% physical block shield. You get one after the Pursuer fight just before the area where you are now.
The way to win is simple. First of all stay on that little ledge with the first sentinel and hit him in the back once or twice then block and circle strafe and repeat.
Now if you have a bow/magic/knives etc...Start spamming them to the other sentinels. Now just drop down and repeat the same process but keep both of them together.

Man, getting the last 4 "Collect All Spells" trophies has been really killing my enjoyment of this game. I'm over halfway done on the Bell Bros spell, and then i'll jump into NG+ on my trophy whore character, but there' just so many little pain in the ass things you have to go through to get all the spells. I still have my STR/FAITH character waiting for me to finish this nonsense.

I did the ruin sentinels after the earthen peak main boss when I had better equipment.

Boss progression for me was last giant, pursuer, dragon rider, Ornstein, sentry boat guy, rat boss in the pit thing, the rotten, skeleton lords, covetous slug thing and then baneful queen followed by the ruin sentinels.

That's past the foggy bit in shaded forest isn't it or do I need to do the area boss to access it?

Yes. You need to beat the ruins area after the foggy area, then the area afterwards is Pharros

I've used the halberd and had the halberd used against me. Trust me, there's enough room.

I'm not sure how that works, I still have to try infusion. let's say I want to infuse my BSK+10 with poison, does the weapon remain exactly the same and just gets a poison effect? Or does it go back to +1?

It just gets a poison effect. It won't go back to +1. The number upgrade and elemental upgrade is separate.

Wow, I have died 20 times so far on
Giant Lord during the memory. It sucks how any hit he does pretty much kills me instantly. Oh well, pyromancy seems to be doing the trick but this is kind of frustrating.

Funsies as in where we started doing stupid stuff like running around in Moonlight Butterfly Armor and using a whip, or using only a bow for whole fights even when the enemy is like 2 feet from you, or using fists only with no armor, or using only ladles. All of which are things we tried last night. Those are funsies. I cannot stress enough how boring it is to legitimately try 2v1 people with main builds because of how plain unfair and stupid it is. And throughout the entire stream, if you decided watch it at all while you're criticizing me, I continually whined about dumb and unfair this was and was trying to get us to do other things. I can't believe the amount of vitrol one can get for ganking as a joke for an hour, something I've never done before.

I take it back, regardless of how humorous or light-hearted it was meant to be, it was still childish and unfair. I will never use any weapon in DS2 again other than the Ladle and Butterfly Armor as my eternal punishment.
