I actually didn't mind it at all. Much better than Blighttown. The toughest part was finding optional items, but the actually path wasn't too bad.

I don't think I even got everything. Most of my frustration with that area was just missteps, resulting in random falls. Also, having to use a torch so much bothers me (although, I don't mind the mechanic).

Gutter was worst, though.

Finally! The
Smelter Demon
is no more! That has by far been the toughest boss battle simply due to the fire damage. Since I didn't have enough strength to wield the Gyrm Greatshield, I had to find a decent alternative. Thanks to ENBs latest vid, I picked up the Royal Kite Shield, upgraded it a few times, and infused with fire. This combined with the Flame Quartz +1 ring that you can pick up down in the salmander pit made the difference. Even so, the battle was still a pain in my ass and took several tries. Nothing like dat souls feeling when you overcome.

So GAF, now I'm not really sure as to where I should go next. The bosses I've beaten thus far are as follows:
The Last Giant
The Pursuer
Dragonrider
Old Dragonslayer
Flexile Sentry
The Skeleton Lords
Covetous Demon
Mytha
Executioner's Chariot
Scorpioness Najka
Smelter Demon

Any suggestions as to where I should be headed next?

In these type of areas I just go super slow and question every jump 5 times lol. That's how I deal with it. Also, didn't mind the torch too much because it looks nice when everything is lit up. Rather pleasant.

Follow path of progression past Smelter Demon and that's your next target, also go to the bonfire after Smelter Demon then walk back into the boss room for an optional miniboss
After that:

the ladder guy you may have met in Earthen Peak will be back at Majula. Buy a ladder from him, or just buy cat ring and jump down the well. That's next.

Drakekeeper Shield really puts Defender Shield to shame it seems. Not even fully upgraded and already better in everything but dark defense ( by 3%). Only down side: 1.0 more weight and slightly less stability.

Was going to start NG+ but then I remembered about all the locations where I saw items and said "fuck it I'll worry about it later". And I never did the whole area in the forest with the
flame salamanders
. And there's a shard and bonedust I'm missing. And I never got the
king's shit out of his tomb in Shrine of Armana
. And I never really explored the
Grave of Saints
or
Doors of Pharros
because of the whole gray spirit nonsense. So much shit to do in this game.

I co-op'ed against the Duke's Desr Freja a few dozen times tonight and I have some advice.

First:
if you are a mage or archer and immediately run to the far edge while your summons are trying to clear the tiny spiders
you will get all of your summons killed as that will
trigger the laser attack which will target the closer PCs first, and they are likely already too busy avoiding bites from the tiny spiders to also dodge the laser.

Second:
always prioritize killing those little jerks. Way easier fight when they are dead.

Other than that, just carefully manage your distance and take your shots when you can and it's a pretty fun fight. Would have been even more fun if people realized the first bit. I took what I learned from co-op and killed it on my first try, solo. Praise!

The most important thing I learned when trying to beat this boss is that you should always
run counter-clockwise around the boss, since the laser always goes from the boss' right and sweeps left.

I beat the boss my first try after realizing that
and was killed by one of the smaller spiders right after the boss died.

Yeah, that's also super important, I just could not believe how many times people did #1 and wrecked their chance at success within seconds of the fight starting.

Lol i assume you haven't ranked up up to 3 in the covenant of blood, it requires 500 kills in duels or invasions and if you die it counts as a negative so its 500 straights wins for getting the spell, good luck with that. Thankfully you can buy the spell in NG++

Yea i'm not even bothering with that one. I'll get it from
Chancellor Wellager in NG++
AFAIK the only ones you can't get that way are Bell Bros and Sun Bros, so I gotta grind those out. ._.

It's 1/2 the wolf ring as far as poise goes, weighs a ton, and now you need a much larger amount of poise than before for it to be worth a damn. So no.

Figured as much. Considering how poise works (or doesnt) it struck me as a worthless item.

Oh boy! Been working on a NG+ run and now I get to go through S
hrine of Anime
. Is this going to be an even more painful experience than the first time?

I did it all melee the first time through, and then finally started using a bow on NG+. Way, way less painful.

I also did it melee the first time through. I went ahead and upgraded a bow to go through it this time, so I'm hoping I can get this done with quickly.

Damn do people really discover they can light the
windmills in earthen peak
on fire themselves? I'll admit I read it in the guide, not sure how one would know without haha

Oh man, fighting the R
oyal Rat Authority
with dual cestus was a challenge.
I basically had to run in with the Old Sun Ring equipped, hope it kills all the small rats, and manage to avoid the RRA first attack. After that, it was pretty easy killing him.

I wouldn't say I figured it out by myself. Basically, after being summoned to help people with the boss (before completing it myself), I found that for some of them the
whole arena was flooded with poison
, and in others it wasn't. This lead me to investigate the level further, and in doing so, I found a few illusory walls and other secrets, but still no way to
drain the poison
. Eventually, I remembered that there was a very conspicuous point where you could go
right up to the windmill axle, but there was nothing to do there. I went to investigate again, and that's when I saw a message to "use bonfire". From there it was pretty easy to figure out what to do, and I was only a few steps away from a bonfire anyway, so it was easy enough to check.

All things considered, I think this is pretty much what From intended. Some people would just try everything and stumble on the answer, and others would know there was something they needed to do, but not know the last step to get them there, and the in game messaging system (as well as discussion between players outside the game) would help give people the nudge they needed. Of course there will always be some that would never know there was something to do here, just like there were people who never knew about several of the optional areas and bosses in DS1.

lol, nope, I never would have figured it out if I hadn't seen a message next to the windmill saying "try torch". It was nonsense at the time but after I lost to Mytha the first time I realized there had to be a way to even the odds and that was probably it. Not really cheating - it's how From intended the game to be played.

Who is the vendor who sells fire and poison arrows? Really need some more and can't find a vendor that sells them.

I'm really not a fan of this rat covenant. I'm fine with losing in pvp even if I get 2v1 b/c when you win it feels pretty damn good, but summoning me into the
Doors of Pharos
, using all the traps so I can only stand in a couple of areas and spamming soul arrow at me is fucking lame. Especially when I can't dodge as well in the water ( unless there's some rusted iron ring equivelant I don't know about yet).

Damn, there's so much BellBro action to be had in New Game Plus. At the end of my regular run it took 10-20 minutes between summons. On NG+ I get summoned every 45 seconds or so.

Going to be a quick run up to Rank 2 at this rate.

If you are at
Doors of Pharos
, you should be right near the guy who sells Poison Arrows. Just take the road that leads up, instead of the one through the water.

As for Fire Arrows that's a little trickier.
Basically, you have to petrify a specific enemy in Shaded Woods, and then kill it to get a key. Use that key to open a door in the underground area with all the Basilisks. Talk to the merchant there until you exhaust their dialogue, and then they will move to the area immediately after Doors of Pharos.

As for the Rat Covenant, at least it summons you into their world. So you really have nothing to lose by failing, and it can't keep you from progressing. But yeah, it's not particularly fair, and if someone goes all out with it, it's almost impossible to beat them.

I don't even try to win anymore - just go stand beneath an axe thrower trap and make funny gestures at the host until you're dead. Done, congrats on the Pharros Stone Ratbros. That's not meant to sound bitter. All the fights waste are my time, so I try to waste as little time as possible.

Beat the Lost Sinner on my first attempt in new game+, melee only build solo. And then the pyromancers burnt me alive because lock on targeting decided to go fuck itself for a few seconds. Went back and got my 100k souls. Lost Sinner melee only with pyromancers taking pot shots was some insanely intense shit.

Just found Gavlan. I hope he doesn't move anymore since he already moved on me twice.

Is that
the velka follower
? I alreadly freed her so she'll be in this new area I just unlocked
(I believe its called Brightstone?)
?

When I was messing around with the rat covenant I'd just use the Chameleon spell to hide and never move. Some folks panicked and milled around aimlessly in the spawn point, some tried to clear an area and set a trap for me, some beelined the fog door, and some just endlessly scouted the area looking for PvP action that I had no intention of engaging in.

Nobody checked the statues, though. Even when successive invaders had cleared the place of enemies and they found themselves spawning into an empty world, they never checked the statues.

Yeah after he started spamming soul arrow I just stood there and took it so it could be over with. I think the rat (dog?) killed me with the toxic though.

Only found out about it because someone left a message saying
Torch
. Also, I got summoned by someone beforehand
who didn't have any poison in the bossroom, and another person who did.

Question: Why can I now see bon fire locations that I can not travel to? They have like a black filter over them and I can scroll and see how many bon fire each area has. I don't remember seeing that at all before.

Also about the looking
glass knight: Can it still summon human players? If so how do I get summoned as a phantom?

Where can I find some Large Titanite Shard? I am lvl 40 and access to

Things Betwixt
Majula
Forest of Fallen Giants
Heide's Tower of Flame

Is there any Large Titanite Shard in these locations? I just need 1 or 2

Just beat
The Rotten
. I'm already at SL130 after 43 hours. How much is there left, 30%?
I don't know what to upgrade in the future. I have, I think, 40 in HP stat, 20 Stamina, 30 Vigor, 40 Strength, 26 Dexterity, 13 Adp and INT + FTH at minium. My build is melee with a little Pyro.

From what I've read, just use a Red Eye Cracked Orb or Red Sign Soapstone in the area outside of the boss' fog gate, and for the Red Sign Soapstone it'll say
Looking Glass Knight is summoning you
if it works. I'm not as sure about the Red Eye Cracked Orb method, but I don't recommend it since the two times I tried it, I got ganked outside the boss' lair by Sun Bros that were deliberately waiting to be invaded.

You need to put a
red soapstone mark
in the hallway right before the boss fight apparently. I never tried it myself.

freja is such a shit boss for pure melees in ng+. i had to bow her down while the npc summon was distracting her. the players i tried to summon before were all dying.

the shrine boss was more fun. could kill it in melee range without getting hit.

nope. did this earlier without dying. you can summon an npc in the second hut to help you if you wish. there is no major change.

Earlier I decided to just go to Belfry Luna since I never did go through the area and beat the boss. I summoned a guy before going through the fog door. He died almost instantly. I ended up soloing the hardened fight, dual-wielding. It was a lot of fun but it was intense as hell.
