What's the absolute worst game you paid money for in the 7th generation?

Not counting absolute shovelware and bundled games, considering expectations... it's probably this.

Hard to swallow a GOTY getting such a turd as a direct sequel from the same developer.

wii-fit-japan.jpg

Paid $90 for this turd when it came out figuring my wife and I could use this as a starting point to getting in shape. Zero fun and completely useless as an actual fitness product. Played it twice and then never again. My wife maybe played it 6 times before shelving it.

Runner up would be:
Zelda Skyword Sword

Bought the $70 Wii remote+ bundle since I didn't have a remote+ yet. Played the game twice for about 4 hours total and it was mind numbingly boring and slow. The controls were also completely awful and I had to recalibrate the remote any time I had to use pointer controls since it would immediately point to the upper right every time.

Operation raccoon city during a steam sale. It was only 10 €, and i thought it would be a fun game in coop. I thought wrong.

Whew...glad I'm not alone...

Holy shit! Some of the people in this thread never played a bad game. I wonder what handful of the best games they must've been playing all gen long for them to list games like Uncharted, GoWIII, Halo 4, DmC, Mass Effect, Just Cause 2 etc as their WORST GAME EVER.

Jesus, this kind of threads could make explode a flame shitfest about people's taste.
I love NeoGAF.
However, I think I can say mine was Jericho for 360 but to be honest I bought a lot of crap in this gen thanks to the used market.
I think I should feel guilty for wasting my money like that but hey, then I always remember that my little brother bought Shellshock 2 for 30 Euros and I immediately stop feeling dumb. :D

lol...a few games I see posted I'm wtf.... havent commented on any yet. I dont plan on to either...hopefully...lol.

I pre-ordered this being a big sucker for 4x strategy games and real time strategy. It was so bad the company closed in like 5 days.

So hyped for this game. The pitch on how things effected the world, and so on.. yadda yadda. i have never heard so much BS spouted for a game in my life. it was practically a platformer on rails. This GI cover was so awesome... boy what a turd. The fact that this game got a sequel, amazes me to this day.

The announcement thread was pretty epic tho ;)

Dragon Age II

There were a few games that I bought that ended up being an overall waste of money (SWTOR, Diablo III), this took the cake. I'm surprised I was able to play it for 7hrs, but had to put it down. I cannot believe I plopped down $60 for that pile. I didn't even make it to the repeating dungeon map segments.

Halo 4, the multiplayer is garbage CoD in space and the single player was okay but I had no interest in going back to it after beating it once.

This,

The game is a frankenstein of a mess IMO. And the game should never have left Epic's hands and because of this game, I fear what Black Tusk are going to do with the series.

Also, Dead Space 3 (what a turd of a game after DS2)

oh boi so much yes.

This game.

I tend to like all kinds of shitty games, but this i cant stand. The expectation this game gave to be some kind of spiritual successor to Freedom Fighters, but everything was just so bad! As a fps fan, this game has all the crappy "modern warfare cheap knockoff" feel all over it, the weapons pack no punch at all, the characters made me totally uninterested in the story, the pseudo-high tech killed what was left of world characterization. They had it basically ready in terms of an original world, but they just had to transform this into generic soldier shooting generic soldier-baddie.

It just baffles me how they fucked up so bad, if they just made the guns felt satisfying to use, a group of ragtag guerrilla resistance, and interesting enemies to shoot at i would be all over this.

The worst part? i bought it twice. 360 and steam sale, you know, to give it a second chance with 60 fps 1080P and keyboard and mouse, still shitty.

Turok? Man, it had some cool looking dinosaurs and a dope ass bow.
Duke Nukem forever? The humor is so shitty (not in a dark humor way btw), the gameplay is so dated that is kind of fun to play.
Perfect Dark Zero? Dat wall texture, and also, if you can forget that is supposed to be Perfect Dark it was a fun launch game.

Homefront: There was no excuses.

The worst? Probably Final Fantasy XIII. Not because it was a bad game (because it wasn't), but because it was an arguably weak entry in one of my favorite game franchises. Streamlined the gameplay too much for my liking.

Still, if that's the worst I can think of, I'm lucky. I've become very picky with the games I play...so I think I did okay.

Either Max Payne 3 or one of the countless games in the various indie bundles that sprung up over the year

Not saying they were all bad, I wouldn't have kept buying them if so, its just law of averages tells me in a bundle of five games at least one of them will likely be godawful

I was expecting to finally have a grand English version of Pop'n Music, but instead I got five crappy songs with terrible art on top. So disappointing.

Spent $5 on Colonial Marines just to find out if it was bad or entertainingly bad. It's just bad.

Spent a few bucks renting DmC: Devil May Cry. That game permanently changed my opinion of Ninja Theory (in a bad way) about their storytelling and writing capabilities.

Wow, a lot of my favourite games from the past generation are in this thread.

Alan Wake, Bioshock and GTAV for instance.

I didn't pay full price. In fact, I think I payed only about $10, but I think its probably the worst game I played last gen. Put it in my PS3, played for about 5-10 minutes and never played again. Couldn't stand it.

Worst is a strong word and I got a few stinkers for 5-10e but I knew that they were not good so I'll restrict this to the worst games that I bought at full price.

Killzone 2
Little Big Planet
Fable 3
Darksiders 2
Far Cry 2

There are more games that I regretted getting at full price (MGS4, GTAIV, Gears 2) too but at least I managed to beat them, I couldn't bother to finish any of the games above.

I completely forgot about that one. Yeah that ranks up there as well. Still lower than Sonic 06 because I payed less but definitely there. Won't preorder kalypso games these days consequently.

All that comes to mind is Brink. Second place would be Twilight Princess, but I'm almost positive I'm missing something. Long generation lol.

I've played plenty of bad games, some worse than this, but I got those other titles for cheap. I spent 60$ on this disappointing (and incredibly annoying) piece of shit on day one and since then have vowed to NEVER buy another Tales game on release day. I now wait for the price to go below 20$. That purchase still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I give launch titles a pass as they're usually shovelware and shoddy tech demos. Here's my list:

I actually returned this game to GameStop, along with dozens of others. The employees told me to tell them the disc was broken so they could give me a cash refund instead of store credit. Every 100 steps the game would have to stop and load. I couldn't stomach more than 20 minutes before going back to the store.

I feel you. I was sorely dissappointed since the guy I was talking to in the shop I bought it from was telling me how awesome it was. Not only that, it won game of the year from another forum I visit. so disappointing in so many ways.

No ways, man. Reviews can't be trusted. As far as I recall every site reviewed Skyrim on PS3 really well.

Single player games with severe technical shortcomings that don't get noted in reviews are fairly rare. Skyrim looks like shit anyways so thankfully I never bothered with it.

Worst I've paid full price for: Metroid Other M

Metroid_Other_M_Cover.jpg

Worst I've paid any amount for: Sonic '06

Sonic_the_Hedgehog_Next-Gen_Box_Art.JPG

I bought Sonic '06 used because I knew it was terrible and I wanted to experience it for myself. No regrets.

It's probably gotta be Fable 3, at least when factoring how much I paid ($60) and how much it costs to develop. I feel like I've written enough about to game to last me a lifetime, but simply put, it was an boring, ugly and unpolished turd that retained all of the worst aspects of the series while lacking any of the positives of the previous entries.
