Mario's moveset makes sense because his moveset (before FLUDD) was an homage to Ryu. It makes sense then that his super move is similar to something Ryu would use.
They are not actual things from their actual games:
Mario
Link
Toon Link
Peach
Bowser
Jigglypuff (unless 'puff up' is an actual move in pokemon that I've never heard of)
Lucario (aura storm isnt a real pokemon move, is it?)
Metaknight (correct me if i'm wrong, but he never uses 'galaxia darkness' in his games)
Could use other final smashes:
Ness (Ness never learns starstorm! Actually, most of his PK moves are very off!)
Pit (After KI:U there are much better Final smashes he could have)
Ice Climbers (Summoning a giant mountain of ice isn't something they actually do)
King Dedede (While he owns an army of waddle dees, there are more creative final smashes he could have)
Oh man, what if everyone has 2 final smashes! Maybe final smashes would be actually good this time. There'd also need to be a way to get them without items, too. Maybe like Ultras in SF4, where if you're over 120% or something you get one. Might be bad though. It would need a lot of testing to figure out a fair way to get final smashes in normal competitive play without them being over powered.
Haha, good point. I had remembered the Double Dash move being more epic, and had forgotten the Hadkoukenness of Brawl's.
You'd think if either Mario or Bowser was going to get a huge transformation for Brawl, it would have been Mario, coming out in the wake of NSMB DS. (Clearly, Bower's correct Final Smash is to make him throw out an endless stream of hammers while he spits fireballs, a la SMB 1).
Agreed on both counts. I'd still like final smashes to be a more core part of the gameplay, because they're fun. Unfortunately they arent anywhere close to balanced, and if you have them on as an item they appear too frequently
I don't mind Final Smashes being made up as long as they reflect the tone of the character. Since the unspoken concept is that the fighters are toys being played with by children, I like the idea of "Ultimate moves" that kids might think of, such as Mario's Giant fireball or Link's Super tri-force slash.
I think some should definitely change, such as Toon Link's being more reflective of his series, or Donkey Kong's being literally ANYTHING else, but I don't care if they're actual game moves or not.

I'll land your master I kind of hope that revisiting Final Smashes means that Fox/Falco/Wolf won't all be using Landmasters again. That really struck me as the most glaring example of time constraints rearing its ugly head. Falco prefers the air - let him use an Arwing or something!
I know the range increases if you hit in tune with the beat. It's still a shitty range for all but the very last beat, startup is too long - allowing foes to run out of reach, doesn't deal enough damage and to top it off doesn't deal enough knockback with the last beat.
Shitty move all around imo.
EDIT: Another negative point just came to my mind after using the move in training mode: Each beat pushes the foe further away from you, allowing him to escape the FS.
Luigi getting a full Final Smash change is so cool because it could mean so much for some other folks.
Bowser: While I'm not particularly opposed to Giga Bowser, ShockingAlberto brings up a good point. I'd love to see Bowser get his Clown Car and just chuck bombs, giant bowling balls and generally troll from afar. If not, Meteor Chucking from the background to the active area in a vague call out to both Galaxy/Galaxy 2 and Yoshi's Island would be great.
Peach & Jigglypuff: I feel like her Final Smash would make more sense on Jigglypuff while hers could be changed to either her hilarious Super Princess Peach abilities or the weird Jedi mind trick powers she had in Bowser's Inside Story.
Falco: Give him an Arwing he can play a left to right version of Asteroid in. Whenever he moves off camera to the right, he reappears on the left and vice versa while firing lasers straight forward. Hold A to lock on, B to shoot bombs and L/R to tilt sideways (double tap for Barrel Rolls) if anyone camps the Arwing itself for safety.
Wolf: Call in a Star Wolf bombing raid. Honestly, his would be the hardest to peg because giving him a Wolven makes him directly similar with my theoretical Falco FS, but him staying in a Landmaster parallels him to Fox even more.
Toon Link: Easy. The Windwaker. Seriously, why couldn't he play Ballad of The Gales and summon a typhoon on the stage in Brawl? That wrote itself. Alternatively, he could get the Four Sword and go all Yun using Geneijin in Street Fighter 3 except it's four Links following in sequence.
Ness: PSI Rockin' Omega: Because Smash needs more trippy as balls final smashes, especially with Luigi losing the Weegee Zone/ZA WARUDO.
Ganondorf: Needs a FS to change into a fully controllable version of Ganon. Trident version would be great too.
Kirby: I'm cool with Cook if they buff its area of effect or do something to make it less avoidable. Otherwise, just replace it with Mic or Crash, or one of the crazy things going on in Triple Deluxe.
Donkey Kong: I didn't mind the Bongo FS, but the throwing barrels down rafters at characters idea is hilarious. Alternatively, DK should go full Jungle Beat and get command grab pummels a speed boost and stretchy arms.
Captain Falcon: Keep his the same in beginning animation, but make it so when he's flying down the track, he pops out of the cockpit forward, flares up and throws an explosive punch with this playing in the background.
Bonus points if he plays helmet less after that point.
Lucario & Mewtwo (fingers crossed): Mega forms. Actually, if the Pokemon Trainer comes back, I think it'd be great if he would just Mega evolve the Pokemon he currently had out but I guess that would require Squirte and Ivysaur to do some last minute grinding.

The range is about the size of Final Destination if you're timing it well. Every third beat should pull opponents in. There's no build-up, you should be able to do a max size beat from the very beginning.

I'd say it's about a second from pressing B to the first sound wave. That's plenty of time to get away from the attack.
And even assuming a perfect scenario - no one manages to run away, you hit all beats, all foes actually die (which pretty much has never happened to me or any of my friends, even when hitting all beats perfectly) you still only have three kills max.
Compared to the Final Smashes which grant more kills (e.g. Landmaster and sometimes Super Sonic) or who also have three kills max. but are way easier to set up (e.g. Ganondorf) you have a pretty bad Final Smash at hand. It just doesn't kill reliably enough.

My friends and I generally pick the smaller stages like Green Greens, Battlefield and Delfino Plaza. Just preference. There's a lot of small-ish stages in Brawl.
I hope Bowser does indeed get his Clown Car, would be fitting for him.
Although, I can totally seem them keeping Giga Bowser, or simply turning him huge - if only because he's done that a lot as a final boss in the series since Brawl.
