I thought Shenmue was awful, but I find it pretty funny that both Sony and MS have dragged the name out for interviews to rally what's probably a fairly small portion of the internet that would buy a console based solely on the announcement of another Shenmue game. Let's be honest, even if it was just an "HD Remake" of Shenmue 1 and 2, those people would still buy the console just for that.

Want to get me excited? Announce a new Freedom Fighters, or a sequel to Alpha Protocol that keeps the atmosphere of the game but fixes the issues it had.

Might lead to some HD remakes of the first 2 games and maybe a part 3 like 4 years from now that probably will disappoint everybody.

For now name dropping Shenmue means, "hey look, see how core oriented we are!". The same is the case for Sony.

Not necessarily in terms of sales, but as you can already read in this thread they would get a lot of support from the hardcore gamer front and a lot of good publicity. Heck, even I would consider an Xbox One, if they would drop Shenmue on it.

No....people who would watch E3 would know what Shenmue is. They may not like it or played it...but I think us fans have shouted enough that people know what it is.
