KI seems to be doing pretty damn well for what it is and what they put into it.Crimson Dragon was a game that wouldn't succeed today and they put it out. Heck even KI.

I would leave my house immediatly and go buy a xbox one. No Kidding. And I dislike microsoft a lotjust imagine... xbox conference rolls to a close. Phil Spencer thanking the crowd and walking off stage.
then utters "and one more thing".
*shenmue theme comes on"
cue the montage of scenes from shenmue1+2
epic narriation "Ryo Hazuki continues his epic journey in the next installment of the Shenmue seires" fade in of Next Gen Ryo Hazuki set in Hong Kong running around the streets collecting mini capsule toys, and playing old sega classics. Ends with Shenmue 3 logo.
audience goes nuts grown men in tears, with raging boners. the cheering is deafening.

Yes so big that they didn't make a sequel for a while now due to its sales. It's a niche franchise that people love in websites like gaf and Japan.A Wii U exclusive?
Shenmue on Xbox would be big, but would also make kinda sense.
Who's he referring to? The average consumer doesn't care about Shenmue, which is why the franchise is dead. It seems like a waste of resources to fund such an expensive game just to appeal to a handful of forum dwellers and bitter Sega fans.
Why would MS, after spending 400 million on NFL, 100 million on the controller, and say 50 million for titanfall, now want to fund a game with a budget of at least 50 million that will sell fewer than 2 million copies? Everyone loves to talk about how much money MS has, but that aren't idiots with it, they aren't just throwing it away
Shenmue 3 wouldn't sell as much on the XBOne as it would on the PS4 though. It's a matter of demographics. See Final Fantasy XIII sales.
What with a extremely niche franchise? You cant be serious.
A blow to what? Shenmue 3 is not going to sell anything and it would be extremely expensive, not to mention Sega owns it. It would score them points with certain messageboard posters.

Go for it, Spencer! Bring us Shenmue III
These. A franchise like Shenmue is more fitting with the Japanese audience than with the American audience.
KI is a fighting game that's been asked for by fans for years and years, not really something that's a hard sell.
Crimson Dragon was a Xbox 360 arcade game exclusively for kinect ported to the Xbox One and given controller support...not exactly a huge money sink there.
Hahahahahaha what?
Shenmue was a 100 million dollar affair. Do you really think KI came anywhere close to that as a free to play fighter developed by Double Helix?
They funded another dead rising when Capcom had no desire to do so.
Did Capcom really say that? I thought DR did alright?
This will make me buy an Xbox One.
So you know what you have to do Phil.......
So you would rather the game didn't exist rather than it existing but just not on the console you own?.
I'm pretty sure if Shenmue 3 did end up being exclusive to XB1 it would be because Microsoft are funding the game.
Of course. Go ahead. And if you succeed, you will have the internet at your feet and you can ride the popularity wave for awhile until you blunder it all in an extraordinary faux pas.
Haha. Yeah. I agree with this assessment. Mine was more of a rhetorical question (I'm sure you knew that).

Also, I've never played Shenmue so could some kind soul explain to me why everyone's gaga for this series
Crazy If it will be an XBOX Exclusive.
I hope it will be multi platform if it does come :/. Or at least on PC.
Question for people who'd like to see this, because I want to know if I'm alone here. More or less, I'd happily accept a new Shenmue title at low production-values. Heck, clean-looking PSP level visuals would make me happy if there was thought put into the story and mechanics.
Am I alone on this? In a weird way, matching the original style, with all its quirks and nightmarish faces intact, might even have some charm to it.

If at E3 they announce :
Shenmue III for Xbox One
The Last Guardian for PS4
Half-Life 3 for Steam OS timed-exclusive
Does NeoGAF crash ?

Hopefully, I'd rather see it on both platforms though
