Watch_dogs: Wind, Water, light effects - [PS4 version confirmed]

The only way it can look worse was if it was made to look worse on purpose, something console Gamers fail to understand.

Or you have a PC not good enough say?

All this PC superior crap is beyond me, much crow was eaten today by these people and many "true" stance's were outed by this thread.

WatchDogs seems to deliver laugh,Hyperbole and embarrassment in equal measure.

There was nothing special about this video, PS4 version or not, Xbox One version will look the same but at 900p, and PC will definitely have extra effects on it as well as be able to run at 4k, everyone believing otherwise is just plain stupid. While ubisoft games aren't the most optimized for PC, they always look better than their console counterparts.

My rig is getting a bit old though (dual gtx 580 and core i7 socket 1366) so I might go console with this game as I don't feel like upgrading right now and my brother and his friend are getting it in console too so it'll be fun having a few multiplayer sessions together.

However, while the video looks good, we are still far from the reveal trailer. Ubisoft said it was running on high end PCs, really hope PC gamers can get that version.

It can be, that during the storyline you will be forced to kill people. But as far as I could see and play, you have always the possibility to sneak and neutralize enemys indirectly through hacking... it´s really cool, because there are always many things you can activate or interact with via smartphone.

I played a side-misson (gang hideout) where I really could neutralize every gang member without getting in the building personally, which was really cool. Only with hacking cameras, moving virtually through cam to cam and activating explosions or other kind of things.

So yes, I can imagine you can play almost (!) without killing someone if you want to, except some story-missions of course, since Aiden is really up to take revenge...

Cool, thanks for answering. I guess the determining factor will be if your actions have any effect in the world because if it doesn't matter whether you slaughter people or go all stealthy then I'll just go with whatever gets the job done more efficiently. Which is a bit of a bummer.

But you are just surmising, PC will have Better Resolution and AA options, and it will have the same "Extra" features for Nvidia owners that ACIV had which is HBAO+ and a better AA solution for thin objects like ropes etc, this hardly pales the PS4 version or X1 version does it (And I have it on X1 & PC), Jonathon Morin already tweeted that he thinks (or is nit sure) that PC have special GFX.

BUT this game is more than GFX, it genuinely looks amazing and different but all we get is GFX bashing and the game will be crap, based on nothing but a pre-determined view.

It has become such a polar dividing game.

4k is pointless as long as it remains tied to LCDs, though.

The best gaming monitors are LCDs, have you ever heard of motion strobing LCDs? They have better motion resolution than even CRT, the contrast depends on the panel but you could achieve very rich blacks too. This not 2005 anymore, LCD technology have improved significantly the past few years, plasma is dead and OLED has it own share of problems too. Nothing is perfect.

Now I have hope again that the PC version will be closer to the 2012 reveal. If it does turn out that way, I'll probably sell my ps4 copy and get it on the pc (as long as there is a controller input option on the pc version)

I'm so glad i love my life and gaming. Just confirmed around 100 npcs on screen in certain areas at once. Each npc has there own brain and reacts differently.

This just in, games have gameplay.

Who cares if ISS looks better you cant do much in the game with interacting with world or its citizens and there is no side content that grabs me at all. #Isthisreallife

Well, you've never played Watchdogs, so you can't really make the gameplay argument. That said, what I've seen hasn't grabbed me. But that's not even the point. The point of the graphics discussion is...graphics (weird, that). While it's true that Second Son is lacking in content compared to its predecessor, it's still a very fun game and the level of interaction is what you would expect, given the core gameplay elements. It really sounds like you're just making excuses for a game that you want to like and the only way you can make it sound appealing is criticizing another game for not having features that may not even make sense. I could do the same thing by saying Watchdogs is total shit just because you can't
fly across the city
in a matter of seconds. That would just be stupid of me...

Watch dogs will never look like the 2012 footage on any platform, it might have if it was a next gen exclusive but the assets were designed around the limitations of the last gen consoles. I don't know why people can't understand this, it has nothing to do with the PS4 or the XO being weak or powerful.

I apologize then, it's less noticeable than before. Still the biggest downgrade I've ever witnessed.

Haha suuuure. There isn't even any evidence of a downgrade. Surely if there has been a downgrade somebody can produce a comparison showing exactly what has been downgraded.

In a game like this where so much of the world is dynamic, scenes can look dramatically different just depending on the various weather and time of day factors. I have a feeling that when that same spot in the game is shown again (unless it has been cut or changed) it will look pretty much the same as the 2012 demo.

The game still looks impressively detailed and realistic in any case.

The comment by the PCGH editor reads strange though:

I could very well imagine that the footage is in fact the PC version, but they aren't allowed to show anything else than Ps4 footage(Sony has a marketing deal with Ubisoft for Watchdogs), so they have to say its the Ps4 version.

What Sony makes with Ubisoft or what not, is a whole different topic. What I can say is just the normal thing between publishers/pr and gaming journalists all over the world. We can only work with stuff which is given by the companys. So we can´t show PC-footage if we don´t have PC-footage. So simple it is. If we get footage and they tell us "take this, it´s PC" we can´t do anything about it but believing it. Because it was a missunderstanding and it was in fact PS4-footage, we had to put it down and will upload a new video during the next 24 hours. It makes no sense for anyone to have a video online with PS4-gameplay, but telling it´s PC. Not for us, not for Ubisoft and not for you...
...ok, it would only make sense for haters and for pushing massive shit storms ;)

I'm in the same boat. Pretty disappointed to see games like Dark Souls 2, apparently with PC as the lead platform, producing games that don't take advantage of a users hardware in any meaningful way. The games are still great though, just a shame to see so little being done from some games despite the hardware and scaling that are easily achievable.

We'll see how the PC version does

I said closer not exactly. There are still many things not related to the assets that can make it look closer. Lighting techniques, reflections, atmospheric effects, the blur effects (I think it's called bokeh, not to knowledgable about the technical terms) that aren't being done on the ps4/xbone verisons which can get the pc version to look closer to the original e3 2012 reveal.

I wonder what system warrior GAF will be like in 3 years when PC's have left these consoles in the dust?

Another round of "720p is good enough!" Humans can't see more than 720p 25 FPS anyway!

What sorts of weird shapes will they twist themselves into in order to downplay the PC?

* Note, I'm tlaking abotu system warrior GAF, not console gamers in general, who usually don't care about this kind of stuff anyway.

Probably a lot like your posts. Petulant.

Wow, so imagine how much better the PC video will look once it's released :p

I think we should all bookmark this thread and come back for even more laughs and plot twists when the game is actually released.
Be careful what you wish for. This is a Ubisoft title and their track record with optimization isn't stellar. But as long as the screenshots are pretty. ;-)

the water looks non interactive. notice how no waves are created as the boats pass by

I noticed that, but other trailers show off some good interaction. I'd assume it's just part of the simulation of day-night/wind being the focus in the trailer and not indicative of the final product. That would be too jarring. It may be that NPC boats don't do much

Yes, this was present in all previous videos also.

Water is interactive it seems only when player is piloting a boat [or maybe it is only a LOD issue, if the player is closer maybe the procedural waves will kick in].

I think water interaction with boats and Aiden uses tessellation. So it will be invisible at a distance. You can see water interaction in other trailers.

What you can see in that gif is wind interaction with water, so I guess that effect doesn't use tessellation.

Well they got Black Flag running at 30 fps locked after having it only run at 0 fps during an E3 2013 press conference ;)

Infamous has really good iq. I havent noticed any shader aliasing at all. You can see some aliasing in the background in dense environments and thats it

Why is it so hard for people admit infamous looks better than this game??

You're probably also one of those people that somehow doesn't notice the judder from the unlocked variable framerate right? Personally, I'm really happy that Sucker Punch is patching in the option to cap at 30fps.

As for your question, if I really thought Infamous SS looked better than Watch Dogs I would say so, but I think both games do some things better than the other and overall probably look more or less equally good. I'll reserve judgement for when I actually have Watch Dogs on my PC to compare the two, but that's what I am seeing now.

This also helps no one ^^ You guys are spreading wrong and incorrect information, in bad video-quality due the compression... That video will be deleted anyway and there is no easier way of getting youtube-strikes than this. So if you want to loose your youtube-account, go for it XD ...ooooor, you could just wait some more hours to see a new correct version of the video.

Anyway, the most impressive thing about this game is the wind interaction.

The wind interaction in Crysis 1 was also very impressive.

I was fine with the unlocked frame rate. Pretty much all open world games I have played on PS3 or PC ran at an unlocked frame rate. When I played Sleeping Dogs on my PC and the frame rate was all over the place. I chose to play it with unlocked frame rate instead of locking it to 30 FPS (in game option btw). Same goes for Red Faction Guerrilla or GTAIV

It was just a missunderstanding at Ubisoft. Not a April fools troll or anything.

Sorry but l can't believe Ubisoft keep shooting themselves in the foot. We got trolled here and Ubisoft are no doubt having a right old laugh over a glass of red. "We fooled them in thinking it's PC footage ha ha actually it's PS4 surprise!!".

well well well. I can't say much, since I kept my thoughts to myself last night, but this thread has made for very entertaining reading.
