Watch_dogs: Wind, Water, light effects - [PS4 version confirmed]

You relaly think these new consoles wiht their small install bases and for which 80+% of sales are still retail will bring in more proft for Ubi than the more established PC market where 90% of sales are digital and atleast some percentage will be direct form Ubi's store?

It would have to sell like 3 times the numbers on consoles than PC. It's not impossible, but I think it's unlikely.

I figure 2-3 million sales on PC 4 million sales total on consoles. That would still likely mean a higher profit from PC.

No way no how. I will bet WD will do sub 1.5 mill on PC and Consoles will easily double that (and I mean X1/PS4 not even going to bring last gen in)

What?

The total war franchise sold over 2 million in a year without ANY new releases, and Rome 2 sold a lot mroe than 2 million.

If you think Skyrim didn't sell severla million units on PC, you're crazy. There are a ton of games that sell well north fo a million units on PC.

The number of PC's that will run the game just fine is something in the 40% of PC gamers assuming Steam stats is anything to go by. That's tens of millions at least. Better than a PS4? Well that isn't required to play the game, yet that number is larger than the current PC4 install base.

Total war is PC only (last I checked Rome 2 sold 800k), Skyrim on consoles was gimped because it was near the end of a cycle of aging consoles (mods community is also strong there.) The recommended specs are much much more than the average PC and the Ultra spec is insane, Steam stats show that the average GPU is integrated HD 3000, 4000 if that's what we're going by. I'm not saying there can't be great sales for PC games, I game on my PC frequently but to think that something like Watch Dogs will sell in those numbers are purely visions of grandeur.

Reading comprehension fail?

I'm talking CURRENT GEN consles here, which is what Iw as responding to originally, witht heir 6 million or so intall bases, NOT last gen consoles with their 90+ million install bases.

Jeebus, it's liek talking to rocks.

Err, analysis fail? Sales in the UK:
MGS GZ
PS4 58%
PS3 15%
XB1+360 27%

Thief:
01 (NE) PS4 THIEF (SQUARE ENIX EUROPE) - Between 24.600 and 28.700
02 (NE) XBO THIEF (SQUARE ENIX EUROPE) - Between 15.500 and 18.100
06 (NE) 360 THIEF (SQUARE ENIX EUROPE) - Between 7.500 and 8.700
11 (NE) PS3 THIEF (SQUARE ENIX EUROPE) - Between 4.300 and 5.000

Multiplats sell better on that 6 million or so install base than the 90 million or so install base. I could go on with more cross gen examples. Watch Dogs on PS4 is getting exclusive marketing and bundles.

There is 0 chance the PC of all platforms is gonna outsell the PS4 version.

You are right. This game looks good but what about the Gameplay ?

Substitute view point climbing and tower climbing for CtOS base hacking.
Substitute feathers and relics/letters of the lost for DEDSEC tags.

Keep the bugs, hand-holding, broken stealth, dumb AI and poor game design and there you have it, Watch_Dogs.

Rome 2 sold 800k units in 3 weeks, man. And the Hd 4,000 is the most common GPU but it's only some sub 10% of users. Not only that but the survey has a had a bug for a while which will not detect a user's dedicated card if they have one of these GPU's drivers installed (like I do) so my GTX 780 ti isn't counted.

And finally, what does the fact that SKyrim is a much better game on PC have to do with the sales? Almost ALL multi-plats are better on PC.

This is the most needlessly nit-picky thing I ever read...

Why do people waste energy searching for "flaws" like this?

The guy you quoted is a graphics enthusiast. He was responsible for various mods for Crysis 2 and Crysis 3. Nothing wrong with demanding perfection. But as we can see, even on a GTX 680 perfect SSR is impossible in an open world game.

O god, just get out. Seriously, this thread is embarrassing enough already.

Yeah that's one thing that I don't get about game makers wanting to wait to release their games on the new consoles. It's a smaller base, but it's made up entirely of hardcore gamers who will buy lots of games, and there is almost no competition for content. Plus, it's wide open to start a franchise on the console, something hard to do later on in the console's life. It's a ridiculous multiplier, and the console base is equivalent to something like 10x comparable to last gen.

How about a ban bet?

Care to put your account on the line or are we not doing that sort of thing any longer?
Say, I'll take a 6 months ban if Watch_Dogs does not end up suffering from all the same bullshit that every Ubisoft open-world game has suffered from.

You can take a one week ban if I'm right.

If that game is truly multicore,it will be the first real MC game made by Ubisoft. Other ones just sucks as far as CPU usage and optimisations..

i'll never understand.

No more, no less

Because these are all flaws that people have pointed out in more recent footage to claim some kind of 'downgrade' from the initial reveal trailer (from which this gif is taken), and MaLDo is pointing out that the flaws have always been there.

I like how Watch Dogs looks. A lot.

Hahaha thanks. By the way, I never get tired of linking childplease aka gibonez aka socomnick's NG4 comments since he was a massive 360 fanboy there who always trashed anything Sony/PS. Then when the PS3 started to get more appealing by mid-end of last gen he switched to PC.

Here are some of his comments on N4G. Behold at such brilliance.
I remember this guy back before N4G turned into Playstation Zombieland and when it was fun to hang around there.

It was really impressive footage when I thought it was from the PC version, but now I know it's actually from the PS4 version, the graphics are still pretty shoddy.
This is so true, the same people who where boasting about how much better it looks from the console version will digress now that they know the truth.

1. those were the only sales numbers I can find
2. than why quote steam hardware at all? you cited it first.
3. elder scrolls traditionally sells well on PC due to the modding community and relatively modest spec requirement. Also no not all or nearly all multiplats are better on PC so stop spreading that shit, a lot of PC ports are buggy and ill optimized.

oh, fair enough. my mistake and apologies.

Here I was thinking what is wrong with these people talking about it looking better than previous trailers and it turned out to be the PS4 version afterall. Embarrassing.

I was thinking the same thing. It looked exactly the same as the last trailers and yet people compared it with the 2012 reveal. Embarrassing indeed.

The sad thing is that you're probably right.

Although before it turned into PS Zombieland it was plagued by 360 fanatics. However, even then, it was a better place to hang around indeed.

So I read the first page and just now watched the video. Did they watch some other video or something? Apart from the good looking water tessellation part (the water at the start of the video looked kinda bad) I didn't see anything special that would make this so called "PC version" look better than what I would expect from the PS4.

N4G converts are very special. Gaf just gets better and better with their efforts.

LOL

Shocking turn of events.

I asked about the nVidia stuff on the first page before watching the vid. I knew they had some deal in place so I figured it was just a trailer for that. The usual suspects made some posts that are amazing in retrospect.

Are you fucking serious right now? Of course I won't do ban bets, what are you, 12?

I'm saying that perhaps you should wait to judge gameplay until, you know, you've played the game.

Step up, son. It's just a week.

Protip: I waited to judge the gameplay on Ubisoft open-world trash enough times lose 300 bucks on it.
Reviews didn't help me make an informed decision. Neither did Ubisoft's own E3 demos of those games.

Worked out so well with the last dozen Ubisoft open world games am i right.

Maybe we get lucky and the story is good. Would be a nice way to not make it feel like a clone.

I think the % of gamers that actually do that theses days are in the single figures :(

This whole thread has been great, it pays to have confirmation.

Not happening bro, the PC may have a bigger install base but the console crowd tends to be the one that eats up AAA games more, that and it's coming out late May which is a time when there's another semi-drought.

That tends to be the way games sell on consoles, it stays relatively quiet, until an AAA games come out, sales are great, and then it goes back to quiet until the next big one.

Now profit? That depends because buying a game on digital gives a dev about 3x more profit than buying retail.

BTW, according to Nvidia before the game got postponed, this is what the PC version looked like:

watch_dogs_4jus2w.jpg

I cannot wait till someone loads up the game of that exact area and we get screens of it. I am betting that the screen is vertical slice ubi soft trickery as always...

That's one of Ubi's obviously photoshopped screens. I don't know why they even release them. They don't even look like supersampled shots. They look like concept art, not a gameplay screen.

What have you got to be afraid of if it's surely not like every other Ubisoft open world game? Take the bet.

Pure gold.

It took me a good half an hour to read the entire thread, every minute was well worth it.

We got the full service here.
