Watch_dogs: Wind, Water, light effects - [PS4 version confirmed]

Now profit? That depends because buying a game on digital gives a dev about 3x more profit than buying retail.
Source?

Various developers have extremely different royalty setups but to just make a blanket statement like that requires evidence.

(This is of course irrelevant to this title, because it's published and developed by Ubisoft where the number you're giving is completely divorced from reality.)

This is so true, the same people who where boasting about how much better it looks from the console version will digress now that they know the truth.

I honestly thought they would go for the super pretty bullshots on a ridiculous spec rig for a video like this... so I was a bit underwhelmed when I saw the video last night.

I'll fully admit to thinking it looked better than the existing PS4 footage, though.

Seeing the screenshots i retract my coment from earlier. Looks downgraded still, nothing groundbreaking.

Will wait and see, can't trust reviewers so I will wait till about a month after release see if people here like it.
Lol. Yeah right you saw PS4 footage and went *gulp*. Lot of you are now on GAF list of flip flops.

This is one of the most hilarious and saddest threads I've seen in a long time. I believe Ubi knew exactly what they were doing with this 'mishap'; hats off to them. Some posters on this forum are just embarrassing.

Best part about it, more fodder for the user ban list function for me.

So wait, it was PS4 footage all along. LOL.

Obligatory:

Well, this thread went places.

What I don't understand is how the videos we saw before and this one look different if its the same console.

Placebo I guess.

This thread is gold. I want to pre order this but unsure til I see reviews. I guess I can cancel if needed right before it ships lol

I thought the video still looked pretty bad (maybe because it was actually the PS4 version? /cheekiness).

So they actually managed to get tessellation into this game, but not other console games?

so the gist of the thread is new video marked as pc graphics, everyone loses their mind pc is savior, turns out it is just the ps4 version. i still don't think it looks very impressive.

I don't think its mind blowing either, but it definitely singled out the PS4 haters, or pro pc guys.

Probably because in 2012 there was nothing that looked anywhere near as good as Watch Dogs. Now it's common to see games like that so it's less impactful. I just watched the old footage and newer footage and I'm not seeing how the old version is any less "bland." IMO the game has never really looked bland. But when you string together a sequence of events specifically for a demo designed to paint the game in the best possible light then yes, gameplay more in-line with what you're going to actually experience may seem a little bland.

Ok guys, I have to say some things to bring clarity to this topic!

First of all, the gameplay IS NOT PC, it is PS4. This is no rumor or my opinion, I absolutely know it for sure!

Secondly, it looks quite good for PS4 Footage :)

You can absolutely trust me about it. Since I´m the game journalist they talk about in WatchDogs Q&A: http://youtu.be/26Z5B8-pOS8?t=26m37s

Also, we should speak more about the gameplay, which is the most imporant part and really "next-gen-gameplay"!
All the talks about Watch Dogs graphics are just complete bullshit, because it´s always like:

"Booooh, PS4-gameplay looks worse than high-end-PC gameplay!!!"

...oooh, what a suprise it is :P

I played the PS4-version for over 4,5 hours now and I can tell you, it´s very nice, the graphics are good and the gameplay is awesome.
I´m absolutely sure the PC Watchdogs will look terrific and really better than the E3 2012 demo. So let´s talk more about the gameplay and wait for the new official PC-gameplay!

Looks like my impressions on the video were bang on.

How about a ban bet?

Care to put your account on the line or are we not doing that sort of thing any longer?
Say, I'll take a 6 months ban if Watch_Dogs does not end up suffering from all the same bullshit that every Ubisoft open-world game has suffered from.

You can take a one week ban if I'm right.

You're being that guy man. Don't be that guy.
We ain't ten anymore.

I was going by these but yeah like you said it is a generalization because devs who publish their own games will be making more money than someone working with a different publisher, and other factors like negotiating licensing fees and minimizing returns (Still less than digital though).

Instead of ragging on childplease, be happy that we finally got something closest to Astrolad in a long while on this forum. He was doing a decent job until this post which just went over the top (and of course his further unwillingness to acknowledge his mis-step after the truth was revealed).

Very well you can remain delusional if you choose but we digress.

This thread is about the new Impressive PC watchdogs video and how much nicer it looks than the console versions.

Anyone else glad they finally opened up about the pc version ?

You relaly think these new consoles wiht their small install bases and for which 80+% of sales are still retail will bring in more proft for Ubi than the more established PC market where 90% of sales are digital and atleast some percentage will be direct form Ubi's store?

It would have to sell like 3 times the numbers on consoles than PC. It's not impossible, but I think it's unlikely.

I figure 2-3 million sales on PC 4 million sales total on consoles. That would still likely mean a higher profit from PC.

What the hell are you smoking? It would be impressive if Watchdogs broke 1 million on PC.

According to numbers from Pachter and which I ran by Nirolak and he didn't object to except to point out that licensing cost can change depending on title the above chart has retailer cut and distribution way higher than him.

$50 on Steam vs. $60 on console retail is a very similar end result for the publisher moneywise.

The objective from Ubisoft is clear: Get PC prices up to $60 and sell them only using uPlay. Those margins are boss.

If you want to make publishers happy about releasing great ports on PC, buy them on the publisher's store.

So it was the PS4 version. Looks like it didn't catch me out though on anything I said. Looks fine, nothing spectacular. Also about the differences between versions. Yay me.

did i say something that was untrue?>

lol bruce, you take this stuff so seriously bro

You quote a poster talking about the difference between a true wind simulation as opposed to objects just being effected by a random physics systems and people assert that this feature is indeed in the PS4 at which point your contention is:

"dont even bother, some ppl want to live in their bubble where consoles can hang with PC"

-video is shown to be on PS4-

You don't get why that makes your post a bit ridiculous? I agree that this stuff can get a little over the top and everyone needs to step back and relax. Myself included, but as a poster I always feel like you have some type of agenda in any thread I find you in. I am sure its not true and is just bad timing but thats how it always seems with you.

It's pretty funny how low the PC sales figures are compared to their console versions. You'd think with that massive install base and constant discounts the sales would be much higher.

Makes me wonder why there's so many anti-console people who wants the market to die. Don't they want those big budget games ambitious games that can show off their shiny graphic cards? I'm looking forward to getting a nice gaming PC in 3-4 years and I'd love to be able to take advantage of it.

Like someone said, Placebo effect in full swing where the illusionary platform allowed unhinged biases to be put on display.

The thing is the experience the majority of PC gamers are looking for aren't cutting edge tech. LOL is the most popular fucking thing right now, and all my friends have an account. A lot of them also play DayZ, which is an experience and creation that I think works better on PC. Most of the PC platform are not graphic enthusiast, and the stats show that.

I think some of you are going too far with it.
I don't think so. Seriously, the footage wasn't impressive to begin with and apart from the first few pages where placebo PC-superiority was getting dat hype, there were multiple folks without rose-tinted glasses on seeing and stating just that. It's quite obvious that this is the exact same build we've seen before in this past few weeks after its release announcement.

Too many of you focused on the graphics. It looks fine. Like, what parts bother you about it? You must not enjoy games if by every second you are looking at textures and polygons and resolutions.

Sure I agree that developers should max out the power of console to the best of their ability with their game but this is getting ridiculous.

True, but the people who look down on console gamers are the one's who have high-end PCs. It's like they attack the market that allows them to take advantage of that great hardware that they bought.

I fall in that group when it comes to PC games. Used to be some MMOs/shooters, LoL, Hearthstone, and some Steam games that I can run on my PC. You're right, most of the PC market aren't enthusiast, but I see many people refer to "PC" as high-end by default. I guess that led me to believe the market was bigger than it really was.

Tessellations are in COD Ghost iirc. It was one of their early bullet points. "When you look at things closely or bring up iron sights the edges become smooth and very round!"

It's a shame that people's excitement for Watch Dogs is purely based on graphical quality. Am I the only one still intrigued by the game's premise?

Good question. Personally upon the initial reveal I was pumped for both the look and the story, especially the hacking and what story-lines that could open up plus I am a big open world fan. Fast-forward to today and I am still definitely intrigued by the story/premise and possibilities of the open world environment, but my expectations on how it will look have been diminished. I am not one to give up on a game like this just based on its graphics and looks alone though, so I maintain most my excitement for launch day.

Bullshit. TONS fo devs AND publishers have said that a PC digital sale is better than 2 times more profitable than a retail console one. And it's almost pure profit if the publisher can sell a digital copy directly (no steam).
