Why am I the only person in the world to seemingly have trouble with Velstadt? I'm googling it and it seems nobody else has issues with him. Any advice? He's freaking fast and has a super long range. If I dodge I get hit by a swing, I can't attack because he counters me. I honestly don't understand, how everyone says he's super easy.

I just fought him tonight in NG+ and was having a bit of trouble with dodging his attacks. My issue was that the windup on some of them is quite slow but the actual attack comes out really quickly. I ended up summoning in the NPC to distract the boss which helped a little bit, but if you decide to do that don't expect the NPC to deal any decent damage.

Yeah, his attacks have insane range and tracking. I dodge, but, he manages to hit me still.

Try taking off your armor and circle him. Also try to block his hits instead of rolling away.

Can anyone give me a hand with this?

Also, it would have been sweet to be able to obtain his armor, too.
Pretty sure there's some art of him in the CE artbook, I'll take some pictures later when I get home if someone hasn't already.

Freja doesn't seem too rough except for the minions and that beam. That beam is a killer.

Time for Round 2.

The beam is killer but also easy to dodge once you know its tell. Once she raises her legs just dart straight to other the face (don't run around the spider) and you can get a ton of free hits while she's shooting the laser. I don't even bother killing the adds in this fight. Haven't done it in NG+ yet though.

Wait until you try her on Round 2 heh. That beam might just insta gib you. I had a ton of trouble finishing her off without help after using an aestetic

I played through Demons and DS1 and loved both, but neither grabbed me this way. I'm at that point where I finally identify with the crazy people who say it's hard to go back and play any other game. Never felt that way, but I do now. Looking at all the other games in my backlog is like looking back on homework from elementary school. I don't have time for AAA baby games right now.

Currently rocking a dex/int build with
fire blacksteel katana +10
and tons of pyromancy with a shield/another katana in offhand depending on situation. Just reached the Castle. I think there are many more viable builds than ever before, and being a jack of all trades actually works (for me) this time. Think I'll have time for another run or two before the PC version drops and it all starts again. Can't remember a game I felt this obsessed about in years.

On the topic of infusing, I read that infusing with, say, fire isn't necessarily as good as it sounds.

On my strength build I had a halberd +10 with something like
350+100 dmg
and fire infusion gave me about
275+40 (correction: these are both 245 not 275)
275+20

So obviously I thought that against any enemies that don't have insane fire resistance that's way better. 610 vs 450. But then I read that the enemy's defense stat would be applied twice because I do 2 separate types of damage. Is this the way it is? I didn't really compare how much damage I did before and after so I don't know if it was worth it or not.
Yeah, that's exactly how it works.
I tested this on my NG++ sorcerer and sure enough longsword +5 (168+120) did more damage than fire longsword +5 (117+52, 117+42). But then I removed the fire effect from my NG strength build's halberd and the damage actually dropped quite significantly. This makes no sense as is because my strength build has every reason NOT to benefit as much from the fire infusion as my sorcerer. I guess what causes this is enemies having significantly higher defense in NG++ and so infusions lose their edge. But at NG they still seem more powerful than regular weapons even on a build and weapon that should be more suitable for regular upgrade path.

I'm really disappointed by this is if it is the right conclusion. What's the point of raising DEX and STR if you're better off dropping the bonus and going for fire/lightning instead? Assuming you're not going to NG+.

Saw the video of the gaffer who fought 2 pursuers with just his fists and I'm getting slammed by one of them... I want that ring tho...

Wish my build had some int or faith. I'm currently mostly dex with pyro as my only magic. I pack a few arrows though. Sorcery/miracles are crazy powerful as always. Whenever I summon a miracle/sorcerer they deal CRAZY damage to bosses.

I'm curious how I will do against the A
ncient
D
ragon
in NG+. In NG, I was able to beat him within a few tries. My fire resistance this time is much larger and hp much bigger now too. Of course, I expect him to do so much for damage now. Won't get to that for another day or so most likely.

My mage/hexer would keep getting insta-gibbed, was on NG+ after using an aestetic on it in NG. First run in - was trying to clear out the smaller spiders, and one got me in a back and insta-gib.

Second run in - lazer-beam insta-gib.

Third run in .... well, sun bro's did most of the work and I felt a little bit ashamed/guilty.

2nd try wrecked her. Barely took any hits. Had trouble when I got swarmed but got out backed off and Estus'd.

Wanna know what beats the shit out of her? Mastodon Halberd 2H running attack. Dodge beam, use that on her face butt. Its over after a few successful hits.

I think he's one of those bosses that won't get much harder, independently of difficulty. This guy was designed to be beaten without taking any damage, so it really comes down to having a lot more patience and restraint since the fight will probably last 2 or 3 times as much as in NG. That guy had so much HP, can't wait to see what it looks like in NG+.

A small question: I'm just wrapping up things before moving on to NG+, but I'm a little low on twinkling titanite. I can still buy three from a merchant, but I would like to know what's the best place to farm them? I know I can use an ascetic in two places and refresh their spawn but I'm not too sure if that won't backfire on my next playthrough. The enemies at S
hrine
of A
mana
are almost extinct..

Goddamn you
rat bastard

Can't recognise the tells for when he does the unblockable swipe attack. Had to buy Lingering Flame as well since the trash mob were giving me such a hard time.

Thinking of tweaking my hexers build a bit. Forget the exact stats right now, but I currently have 40/40 int/faith, fairly high attunement and a few points scattered around for weapon requirements / equip load/etc, at SL150.

I find I'm just not using sorcereis at all right now, so no need to be keeping my int that high. Thinking of something along the lines of.

* Vigor - 20
* Endurance - 17
* Vitality - 18
* (above 3 could use some tweaking - figure out what armor set I want to wear and try and get things so I can be at the 50% mark)
* Attuenment - 40
* Strength - 20
* Dex - 12
* Adapt - 4
* Int 22
* Faith - 50

Gives me the stats to use the defenders great sword, sunlight staff and chime and/or chime of want. Can use some spices to knock down the int requirements on a few of the hexes that I use that wouldn't meet the int requirements with this build.

Depending on the hat / rings I decide to wear - could shift around a few points. Then focus on miracles/hexes and using the defender great-sword as my weapon. I'd be getting some agility from Attuenment - but wondering if it might be worth allocating a few points into Adaptability still.

Are the belfry areas optional? I guess what I'm asking is, what do you get for clearing them?

For one you get a pretty nice key and the other you get to skip a boss a lot of people have trouble with.
Worth doing once but I'm not sure I'll do them on subsequent playthroughs.

Yeah the best way to fight him is to just get naked and Max your damage. Getting hit is an OHKO anyway. As for farming, the only way to get more is ascetics or silky stones, assuming you farm the enemies to extinction.

Heard of people having pretty good success with
Dragon Arie
- lots of lizards,
dragons
don't re-spawn, no boss in the level that you need to kill before using another and the
dragons
are not that hard to take out - and if you do have a hard time, it's very easy to cheese them with poison arrow/etc.

Read up on it. Looks like I don't really need to do the belfrys, especially now. Might go back to them sometime later though.

By the way, whats the deal with cracked blue orbs? They never seem to work for me and cracked red orbs are dodgy at best. The blue sentinel ring has never gotten me summoned either.

I can not fucking believe the only boss I was unable to defeat was Mirror Knight. I can not fucking believe it. I have stomped through every boss so far. I'm kinda ashamed I had to use an NPC.

Regular game or NG+? I beat him solo no problem in a regular game.

Mirror Knight gives me more trouble then he should every time. It's his huge shield which blocks everything and his super delayed attacks in his 1-4 hit combos. He's an interesting boss.

regular. His NPC butt buddies kept destroying me. Mirror Knight was easy, but, he summoned his NPCs and by the time I killed one I was already getting killed by him. Once he summoned a player, and another time 2 NPCs. Everytime I wasted fighting his summons, was a moment he could attack.

Welcome to the Blue Sentinels.

And on that note, seriously, looking over all the covenant rewards I'm not convinced there's a genuine point to being in any of them. FROM dropped the ball here again.

He's actually been nerfed as well if you ask me, was tougher when I played the pre-release build at Eurogamer Expo last year.

What do I have to do to increase spell charges for my Soul Geyser? I reduced the intel of it over a dozen times and it still only allows one use.

I've beaten all areas and have reached a dead end. I think I'm supposed to through shades woods or whatever (foggy area) to get to some wintery place ? I've been through that fog area before but never found it. I have three flame souls now (beat iron keep, sinners hall, black gultch, Pharros area).

Any advice?

Bastille key I think. You use it in sinners hall. It's important for boss fight there but I wasn't sure how or why. I may have made that fight harder than it was despite having the key

There is another path that's not Doors of Pharos that leads to Tseladora, and another big boss. I think the bonfire where the path branches is called like Gryms Respite

I dunno, his attacks always seemed slow in pre-release videos. I thought he was super weak. I always thought he was going to be a super weak boss. I was wrong )=

I beat Belfy Luna....what key? Where does it go?

It does two things.

1. It allows you to light some fire to illuminate the Sinner fight;
2. You can unlock the doors above the water in the part before the Sinner fight so you can bypass that whole area with the exploding bellyfloppers and the water beasts.

So I finally Platted the game yesterday.. I feel a little dirty getting all the spells in NG++.. I thought this platinum was just like the other Souls games.. Grindy more than anything..

What if one of the rewards was a ring that let you invade people without them being notified that they were being invaded.

Otherwise, yeah, the devotion rewards seem weak.

YEa this was me as well with my sorcerer, I eventually figured out how easy it is to dodge her attacks, but it gets really tough that last 20% of health when she starts spawning more spiders, and if you leave the safety of the side for too long, you get lasered.

I found firestorm was a terribly efficient mass spider killer :)
