Watch_dogs: Wind, Water, light effects - [PS4 version confirmed]

Interesting that X1 version isn't being talked about much at all... this may not mean good things for the version at this time. prob lagging behind ps4 development.

Less than two months and no footage, no pics, not even a word about it. They even mention the old-gen versions.
No talk of the devil, but this is worrying.

Ubisoft do have a marketing deal with Sony for this game (like Assassin's Creed); outside of that, they want to make sure they put their best foot forward when showing off the console version of the game.

Well, indeed. Probably that marketing deal is what causes the absence of the X1 version.
(the second part is obviously true though)

EDIT: My English is dead right now.

It's a shame that people's excitement for Watch Dogs is purely based on graphical quality. Am I the only one still intrigued by the game's premise?

I was interested in the story as well. A guy that can hack anything, that's a pretty good set-up. I just didn't have confidence in Ubisoft, but after playing ACIV. I think they'll do a good job with the story. The graphics was half the reason I was interested in it. It looked amazing on reveal.

Gameplay wise, it looks like a regular open world game. The hacking looks like it'll mix it up a bit, but I'm not all that excited by it. I might buy it after seeing this trailer. I just have to see how the average FPS in-game is before I get excited about it.

But that's a very strange definition of what is a notable release?

There are many good multiplatform games that someone that only plays flash games or mobile games hasn't heard of either. It doesn't mean those platforms didn't get notable releases.

Sorry, i mean that PC exclusive games (for whatever reason) don't get the people raving about them like console games do, i'm not saying PC games are bad or don't look good. Just that they're not that... ahem... popular as opposed to some console exclusive games.

There should at least be some more options available for pc gamers. I hope.. Not that i'm a pc gamer, but it would be nice to see them go the extra mile for each platform.

I hope so too, but there's so much stupid coporate nonsense going on... You can't shine up the PS4 version 'cause Xbone! You can't shine up PC version cause consoles!

It would be great if developers could devote some extra time on each paltform to develop the best game they cna on each (within reasonable limits - obviously making huge level desing changes might be out of the question) without having to worry about "offending" some segment of the gamer population.

HArdware specs are ahrdware specs. You don't buy consoles 'cause graphics (you're doing it wrong if you are) You buy them for the exlcuisve big budget games (should you like those) and perhaps for the ease fo use.

I bought an Xbone for the home theaer stuff :)

Wonder if, when they release the PC verison tomorrow, should it look better - will GAF implode?

I don't think anyone is assuming the PC version won't be the best looking. My main shock when I watched the video first posted was that it looked no better than any of the released trailers that were running on the PS4 and surprise it was running on PS4. I think we all fully expect the PC version to be the supreme one I just want to see how close that version gets to the 2012 reveal.

Huh? Do you just mean "comfy couch"? What do you mean home theater stuff?

That has nothing to do with the QUALITY of the game, but rather the marketing. As a gamer, and I suspect not the CEO fo Sony/MS, I would expect you would care more about quality than marketing...

YEah, it wasn't spectaculr, except for the water, which was the biggest shock to me when ti was revealed ot be PS4. I'm used to thinking of last gen consoles.

So an RTS and space shooter and a puzzler most in alpha, I would have picked project cars or such like, but none of those games are on this scale or production values. Killzone is basically the equal of crysis 3 (which was only made due to the console sales option), Ryse has some of the best use of motion blur, dof, bokeh etc, second son. In the space of 5 months we have had games that push visuals further forward than 95% do PC games.

Pretty costs money and PC only gamers above all chase visuals which is ironic as the base level is always set by the consoles, why do you think that is if bit for the money/market scenario for the dev and publisher?
And what exactly all games mentioned by You have in common? They are funded by platform holders to promote their hardware.

PC does not have platform holders yet still get games like Arma or Total War and one of the biggest budget titles like Planetside, Guild Wars or TERA.
Sure, the range of specs on PC is wast and lack of formalized specs, and a platform holder to fund something just to showcase a tech, means that moment to moment graphics experiences are lacking on PC, but it does not mean that it lacks big games or ambitious games.
Look for example at Planetside 2 or Guild Wars 2, one is pushing scale and tech, other is pushing content and scale.
Games on PC are budgeted differently, because they are not budgeted to showcase something, but attract userbase with gameplay.

Star Citizen main goal is not to push graphics technology and cinematic experience, even though its doing that and its marketed that way, but to make very deep space sim with tons of different mechanics. Fidelity is very important, is close second goal of the game, but mechanics and vast interactive world are prime.

And we all know what the platform with the best received games are.

Edit: It's mobile, and iOS specifically. Source: Metacritic.com

Huh? Do you just mean "comfy couch"? What do you mean home theater stuff?

The TV guide, the video streaming, the voice commands. My home theater PC was getting long in the tooth (about 5 years old) and I didn't want to splurge ona new one, specially when Microsoft basiclaly abandoned it's home theater innitiative in Windows, and steam mahcines are a coupel of years away, so for $400 on Amazon I figured the Xbone should have me mostly covered. The only main issues I have are the voice commands... they don't work so good. And the fact that it can't find available videos on my network. Sucks. But I'm hoping they fix that.

I don't use it for gaming. Well, I got Zoo Tycoon because I loved that franchise on PC... and the console version is the most dumbed down crap ever, which only solidifed my, no game son the Xbone policy.

I'm not sure if its safe to use Planetside 2 in any argument for the differences between console and PC gaming considering its coming to the PS4 with the same content and scale alongside Ultra level visuals. SOE's games since the PS4's launch have become just as cross platform as most third party developers like Ubisoft.

I also don't quite understand why we would consider Arma or Total War in these discussions particularly because they can really only survive on PC - in Arma's case its because enthusiast PC gamers tend to be very forgiving of unoptimized games that require some work to run properly. My experience with Arma is that the series is often times a buggy mess that requires some serious tinkering before it becomes anywhere close to playable. Its exactly as you say, though - gameplay is the key here.

In Total War's case, its much simpler. The genre simply doesn't work on consoles. The rest of what you said is at least agreeable.

Ah I see. Going to be a long time till either the Xone or PS4 are great streaming systems. I really regret getting rid of my PS3. Was a fantastic media server.

Wait wait wait... i know about Starcraft, Project C.A.R.S, Diablo and all those other PC games, i'm just saying that PC exclusive games fail to generate the same kind of buzz that console exclusive games do on the gaming world. Now correct me if i'm wrong but... if i go out to say... a GameStop and ask a random person about racing games that are new and or up and coming... i'm pretty sure that Forza and GT are going to be name dropped quite a few times more than say... Project C.A.R.S.

A lot of the buzz gets generated by Sony, MS and Nintendo themselves to push their platforms. For example Infamous:SS has the whole marketing power of Sony behind it. This doesn't happen on PC and thus isn't a 'failure' of the games (still the hype for Diablo 3 was enormous).

Furthermore, and that's the main issue with your first post imo, you talked about the 'gaming world as a whole'. But that doesn't really exist anymore, if one segment gets hyped for something it doesn't mean the others will notice it, everything's too diverse. Ask an MMO or MOBA fan if he's hyped for Order 1886 or Watch_Dogs or Halo X. Probably not. And while it has gotten noticeably better the mainstream press is still focused on a very narrow part of gaming.

OT, but this looks like Vincent D'onofrio laughing at Steven Segal while Don Mattrick bites his lip to keep from busting out laughing.

Wow, so many condescending remarks when some posters thought this was pc footage, sigh!...The game looks good guys, Ubisoft have always delivered great looking games with nice IQ. The Pc and the Ps4 versions should look just fine.

Because Planetside 2 was made and designed for PC. It was 'funded' by PC audience, tweaked by PC audience and its out for more than a year on PC already.
Sure, it will launch on PS4 in future, because its Sony property and they think they will maybe win console audience with their game, but main focus will be always PC. Console version is an experiment for Sony.
Same goes for Everquest, expect it to launch two-three years from now on PS4 as well as an experiment.

So you're paying for Live while only using it as a media center? Most modern TVs have their own Netflix apps / TV guide etc. why wouldn't you just get a new TV or a PS3?

Everyone told me I should've gotten a PS3 instead. I know. But I thought the voice commands would be helpful to the wife snce she has to carry our new little one all over the house. And it supports live TV passthrough which she still wants for some reasons. But the voice commands don't work and it won't see my ripped blu-ray collection.

Stop rubbing it in my face, I know I should've gotten a PS3!!!

:(

An experiment? I think DCUO was the experiment. Blacklight and Warframe are the F2P experiments in the console space as well, something that'a also inherent to Planetside 2's identify. SOE's quick dedication to a PS4 release of EQN suggests to me that they really are committed to the console space alongside their traditional PC gaming roots. There are still more F2P games and MMO titles coming, which to me suggests that there's some serious belief that these traditional 'pc games' can find an audience on the console side because many of them already have.

I expect EQ Next to launch very close to or alongside the PC release. We already know they're working on it pretty heavily, and with the rumours of a 2015 release, there's more than enough time to reach a point of close development parity between the two platforms as time goes on.

I see what you're saying, though. PC appears to be the bastion of new ways to develop, fund, and release games. In every case, from kickstarter to VR, those new ways are being co-opted by the PS4. What this means is that the difference between 'PC game' and 'console game' will continue to erode.

Are you sure you translated that correctly? Can anyone disprove this do we have any screen caps of two cloned NCPs? If not this really is next gen.

Why want to debunk so quick, It was done by a member of my forum, who is reliant and german.

Regarding the link posted a couple minutes ago. http://www.videogameszone.de/Watch-...denn-das-Video-mit-den-PC-Szenen-hin-1115902/

Watch Dogs: Where is the Video with the PC-Footage?
"Watch Dogs: Wo ist denn das Video mit den PC-Szenen hin?"

Yesterday we published a exclusive Video which we unfornately had to take down for now. Because it was PS4 Footage instead of PC Footage. We're currently working on a new, improved and fixed Video. We will also add Interviews of the Developers of Ubisoft Montreal to the Video. We will publish the video at the very latest tommorow forenoon.

This video will be offline as well very soon. Why you even post this and spread this WRONG information? :P It´s so silly...

Calm down, there's nothing wrong with spreading the video. Anyone who's kept up with the thread enough to see those links will be up to date with the situation and won't care that it's mislabelled. People just want to see the video.

I'm fluent in german and it says:

All NPC appear superficially as unique but in reality we're just winging it and if you expect them to behave as two unique creatures you're out of your mind.

Is that still the case?

I remember the HD 5000 and 6000 series' being weaker when it came to tessellation, but I thought they were on par by the time the 7000 series came out.

No, the 7000s are still extremely weak with tessellation.
With Crysis 3, a AMD sponsored game that they gave away with the higher end cards drops the framerate in half (down to 20 FPS) when near some tessellated objects in game, a GTX 680 on the other hand has no problems keeping 40 FPS in the very same spot.

I don't expect them to be their own person but if they all dress fairly differently and they have enough VAs that adds a ton to the game.

I don't get the downgradeton rhetoric. The game looks far better than GTA IV or V (unless we're talking about bullshots). I think when people remember GTA V character models they remember Michael or Franklin's models from trailers. The average NPC on the street wasn't impressive (in the context of next gen for last gen it was great).

More importantly where did this come from. If the game doesn't look as good as the E3 2012 reveal ok but it doesn't look dramatically different from the 2013 trailers. Did people forget the year 2013 happened and they went straight from reveal in '12 to the trailers from today?

This thread has been an amazing afternoon read.

This was a masterclass in April fools trolling on Ubi's part whether they will ever admit to it or not.
