Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

I honestly never liked that an item was basically another character's move. They really need to get rid of it. The only exception is bob-omb, because even though it's a bomb, it's not the same as link's bomb. Screw attack is literally what samus has as her up b.

That said, I can't really think of anything in the metroid universe that could be used as an item that isn't already one of samus's moves. I didn't really play hunters well enough to know if there were any items in there. I'd like to see some more metroid reps as assist trophies. Mother brain was a good start.
For assist trophies, I could see Kraid, Rundas, and Anthony Higgs being popular options. Kraid's always been popular and his huge size would make an interesting assist. Rundas is one of the more popular Prime characters and Smash could always use some more ice attacks. Anthony is basically the only character people liked in Other M and his plasma cannon would be neat.

I don't really mind the reused assets, but the animations are something that have always irked me. That Super Scope pose just looks silly.

Everyone in Brawl carried Bonsly like it was a fucking crate. I know it'd be a little more work to make special animations for a few items, but come on.

"The game is still in development."

I know that. Everyone knows that. I'm not disputing that fact. I'm pointing out that the animation looks silly and I have reason to believe something like that would actually be in the finished product because it's happened before.

That being said, I love this item. That's a really cool idea, and it looks beautiful.

Yeah, I don't seem that animation changing at all for the final release.

With that said, I don't care. It's not gonna affect the game in any significant way, and changing the animation wouldn't seem like some cool little bonus to me like some certain taunts and stuff would, so yeah, I'm gonna let it slide.

It's a shame you let Fi get to you. She was annoying for sure but she didn't take up that much of my time or actually interfere with the game's content. And that content was one of the best Zelda games; some of the best dungeons in the franchise and great use of items and combat. The plot and characters, Fi notwithstanding, were also among the best and did a good job of turning franchise standards on their head; Zelda turning out to be extremely manipulative and in control for most of the game, Groose defying stereotypes and turning out to be an awesome heroic character. The only part of the game that really felt like padding was the return to Skyview Temple. Everything else the game had you do introduced new gameplay elements and were generally challenging. Even if you didn't like them they still didn't take up that much time. The only issue I had with the tadtone thing was that the flooded forest looked meh. That was probably some kind of holdover from Twilight Princess; remember that TP trailer where Link was swimming in a flooded forest?

I could seriously go on for hours about why I didn't enjoy SS, but I don't want to turn the thread into a huge SS debate so I'll just post some brief comments:

-Again, the Timeshift Stone dungeons were pretty great. Everything else except for maybe the Ancient Cistern was either uninspired (two fire dungeons?) or just generally shitty (Skykeep)
-My memory of the overall story is somewhat vague, but while I enjoyed the characters I was irritated since the "Finding Zelda" portion didn't have much investment aside from the actual goal so it felt like I was being continually baited by the bigger picture. Wasn't impressed with its handling of series lore/backstory either.
-Beetle aside, items were either copy/pasted from TP or were just lamer versions of Minish Cap stuff (Gust Jar FTW). My dislike of the swordplay was more personal taste though I had issues with the learning curve.
-There was too much of those sequences, though! Stuff like finding Kikwis and riding a boat with a stamina meter just served as weak segues into dungeons, and I don't think I need to say anything about the Tadtones.
-Which TP trailer was that?

Skyward Sword is my favorite 3D Zelda. The controls were sublime, and I'll be disappointed if I have I press a button to swing the sword from now on.

I hope we don't get any more Skyward Sword items. The Beetle is cool, but the rest of the items in the game are to dull to deserve to be in Smash, including the Gust Bellows. The gust jar or the deku leaf would have been better options for a wind item.

So, if we don't get a character tonight, it'll tie for the longest period of time between character reveals previously (41 days between Marth and Rosalina & Luma), and it'll exceed that if we don't get a character by Friday...

In this gap between character reveals, has anyone's personal roster predictions changed any? Mine's been the same, and I'm so eager to update it with a newly confirmed character, it's driving me crazy! lol

I don't know who to expect as the next character reveal...

I can think of a couple of Twilight Princess items that would be great. Once you add those, Zelda already has quite a few.

Hopefully, we can expect a newcomer, that would also means no reveal until the next Nintendo Direct.

That's kinda what I'm expecting, too. However, I thought that we'd be getting a Nintendo Direct this week... Doesn't look like that's happening now. Maybe next week? lol

If the next reveal is in a Direct, I'm guessing it'll be either Palutena, Mii, or Snake.

Everyone in Brawl carried Bonsly like it was a fucking crate. I know it'd be a little more work to make special animations for a few items, but come on.

They could also have carried it with the standard animation of the Pokeball, capsules and other smaller items, but I think the intent was to show that it was heavy.

True, though Directs don't typically happen on Fridays. It's usually on a Wednesday, and that's today. I suppose it's still a possibility, though.

March's Direct was a Thursday, though yeah, we would have known if there was a Direct tomorrow by now.

I'm just hoping the Direct is Friday or next Thursday. I'm gonna be busy every other weekday next week, and I want to see the Direct live.

I knew that I forget to post something yesterday to celebrating April 1st.

Here it is.

I'm sorry but that statement is somewhat wrong. Yes, it happened on Wednesday pretty often but they can decided whenever they want to host their Direct on. Last Direct, it was on Thursday (Europe and USA) and Friday (Japan)

Imagine this E3.

Nintendo has an actual conference.

They show a Smash 4 trailer which shows some boring characters like Mii and Pac-Man.

Then, the hype as fuck "CHALLENGER APPROACHING" appears.

And fucking RIDLEY is announced.

The crowd goes wild, tears of joy are shed. The TP reveal looks tame compared to this.

Then Nintendo hits them when they're most vulnerable with a hype as fuck Zelda U trailer.

Still wouldn't beat it. This video's title says it all: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Boyynv4FgaQ

I know you already mentioned the Twilight Princess reveal, but getting the unexpected 'realistic' Zelda after Wind Waker just cannot be topped, I can feel the hype of the announcement in this video

Hilarious enough, that's my prediction.. I'm afraid that they would pull trailer where they shown Ridley in action and they ended up saying that he's backstage character which would interact with the stage.

I think Pac-Man, Ridley, and then Mii after the show (like they did with WFT) would make a lot of sense actually. A cool newcomer that's relatively expected for the initial trailer, then BAM, FUCKING HYPE AS HELL WHEN YOU THOUGHT THE TRAILER WAS OVER. And then while you're constantly refreshing GAF in the hours after this happens, suddenly Mii appears as a bonus.

I can't imagine this, because that would mean that fans actually get what they want, which Nintendo hasn't done since 2010.

Pac-Man will be revealed, their will be fireworks, and then the conference will end.

that's too much hype for a Nintendo conference

No I'm pretty sure your hypothetical trailer would still be tame compared to TP trailer or the Melee one.

I never noticed the reuse of that animation because it worked and looked fine- Bonsly is meant to be heavy anyway, but I do have to say the fact that this item is floating midair does make me raise an eyebrow. It's a minor detail, but seems a bit unprofessional, especially in a game where you can take custom screenshots and see the ins and outs of the game.

You might be overestimating Ridley a bit, lol

That Cruis'n thread has got me thinking that a Cruis'n Exotica stage could be cool. Maybe riding atop three cars as they drive through Atlantis or something, sometimes flipping the fighters off if they go over ramps.

Considering how much of a reaction the press attending Nintendo's conference at Melee's reveal were super excited when they showed Samus fighting Ridley in the CG trailer. It would be hype for the enthusiast crowd, not so much for the "casual" crowd.

Generating more hype than Pac-Man is not going to happen though.

As a huge Metroid fan, there's something WIERD when Ridley generates more hype than motherfucking Puck Man.

You can't ever overestimate how big Ridley is.

I could seriously go on for hours about why I didn't enjoy SS, but I don't want to turn the thread into a huge SS debate so I'll just post some brief comments:

-Which TP trailer was that?

-The worst dungeon in Skyward Sword is Skyview Temple and that's only because it's the first dungeon. It's still better than most first dungeons. The game has no bad dungeons. They were all very inventive. Yes, two fire dungeons. Just like Ocarina of Time had two fire dungeons, two forest dungeons, and two water dungeons. The dungeons have fire in common but are very different in execution. Earth Temple focuses on bombs and riding a ball through lava and Fire Sanctuary focuses on spearing and tossing water plants with your sword, using water on fire and lava, and digging through the ground.
-You should have felt baited. You were being manipulated. That's the whole twist. My only problem with it setting things up is that they didn't do a really good job with the Gorons and Zoras.
-Gust Jar, Deku Leaf, Whirlwind, and Gust Bellows are all similar but different items. The new bomb mechanics were pretty awesome. Skyward Sword made more effective and consistent use of its items throughout the game than most Zelda games.
-The Kikwi thing was a quick simple mission that gets you used to the lay of the land and dowsing. The other regions were much more interesting, of course. How could you not like the boat? The Sand Sea was an awesome concept. Tadtones were fine. The swimming controls were great and it was challenging but short.
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSdV0ijEeno I remember people speculating about why the forest was flooded thinking it might have something to do with Wind Waker.

Which got the biggest reaction when they showed the CG intro parts of Ridley and Samus fighting.
Samus' portion of the gameplay trailer also garnered a pretty big reaction, so the people who cheered for the Samus/Ridley CGI bit were probably just Metroid fans in general. Ridley was relatively obscure in early 2001; the Metroid "revival" of the GCN/GBA era did a lot to bolster Ridley's popularity.

What about the comics/manga

What about the comics/manga

It's not that well known, which is sad since it establishes Ridley as a cartoonishly sadistic mass-murderer. (He remembers that Samus is the daughter of the couple he killed some 15 years ago and proceeds to rub the fact that he ate her mother's corpse in her face.)

real life reactions:

"who is that purple dinosaur"

"their big reveal was ridley? who cares? wii u is doomed"

"does anyone care about pac man anymore"

they had their chance to get a huge crowd pop last year with megaman... and they decided to reveal him via a laggy online stream, presented by an old japanese man in a white room

Helped that Ridley is one of the first things you see in Prime.

Speaking of which, I still believe noody working on Brawl played past the tutorial.

Like anyone read those.
