Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 6: Final Destination confirmed for not fun

So, the embargo is apparently due to end at 4PM JST, i.e. around the same time as the Smash pic usually goes up.

Naturally, I expect Smash GAF to take this coincidence with sense and rationality.

Nintendo lied to IGN about the Amazon leak

Believe

That's the big news tonight, the game's actually being released in April instead of May

Not really, but I can dream

Coinciding a reveal with an embargo lift is a ridiculous stretch.

They're on media blitz mode now, no reason not to cross promote when they've got nothing else in the short-term.

Not saying it's happening, just that it's not as big a leap of logic that you seem to be making it.

It's so perfect lol. Not expecting a vet from sakurai but I would't mind being surprised.

Yeah, I'm just going to have to disagree. I don't think an embargo lift has any impact on Sakurai's reveal schedule.

When there is no precedent, it is a leap of logic.

lol
That's a weak blitz.

They did the same thing for 3D World and everything else they showed off at E3 that year, relative radio silence aside from reusing the E3 demo everywhere, and then a month before they go on a blowout.

It's shit, but it's what they've been doing for a while.

WHAT

That was one of the most awesome, creative dungeons in the series.

Whatever creativity it had was muffled by its context within that point of the game's plot:

]All right, time to collect the Triforce fragments in...a collection of dungeon rehash rooms..with no boss...and the pirate robot captain guy for whatever reason...uh, yay.

It felt really contrived and underwhelming for something that was supposed to set up the game's climax.

-The worst dungeon in Skyward Sword is Skyview Temple and that's only because it's the first dungeon. It's still better than most first dungeons. The game has no bad dungeons. They were all very inventive. Yes, two fire dungeons. Just like Ocarina of Time had two fire dungeons, two forest dungeons, and two water dungeons. The dungeons have fire in common but are very different in execution. Earth Temple focuses on bombs and riding a ball through lava and Fire Sanctuary focuses on spearing and tossing water plants with your sword, using water on fire and lava, and digging through the ground.
-You should have felt baited. You were being manipulated. That's the whole twist. My only problem with it setting things up is that they didn't do a really good job with the Gorons and Zoras.
-Gust Jar, Deku Leaf, Whirlwind, and Gust Bellows are all similar but different items. The new bomb mechanics were pretty awesome. Skyward Sword made more effective and consistent use of its items throughout the game than most Zelda games.
-The Kikwi thing was a quick simple mission that gets you used to the lay of the land and dowsing. The other regions were much more interesting, of course. How could you not like the boat? The Sand Sea was an awesome concept. Tadtones were fine. The swimming controls were great and it was challenging but short.
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSdV0ijEeno I remember people speculating about why the forest was flooded thinking it might have something to do with Wind Waker.

-I disagree. Outside of the desert dungeons, the rest certainly weren't that inventive; the first two dungeons in particular were relatively short/cookiecutter in comparison to the others and I'm still struggling to understand what was so amazing about the Ancient Cistern (outside of an awesome boss battle, nothing about the Buddhist themes were that captivating).

You mention OOT sharing dungeon themes but I feel those have more obvious differences than the SS fire temples. You could make an argument for the Fire Sanctuary's outdoor portions but there's still lava everywhere and stuff we've seen before (cooling the lava with water to make platforms...) and nothing about them are particularly inspired except for maybe the ball rolling. They're just boring, safe dungeons.

-Ah, yeah, I don't think I can provide a fair argument since I don't remember the manipulation thing (
did that have to do with the Zelda being Hylia?
). Mainly from what I remember that portion of was heavily invested with that single goal of finding Zelda and almost nothing else so I started to get irritated when the game's world wasn't really opening up plotwise. I guess I'll need to refresh my memory with a video or something.
-The Kikwi thing was because of the dowsing (which like swordfighting was just personal taste; it grew tedious imo). The Sand Sea IS a fun concept but the boat section felt like a weird spin-off of the TWW sailing, just with a stamina bar (which I already didn't care for) and a strange visual disconnect between the background/water that constantly distracted me. The Tadtones just felt out-of-place for that portion of the game and not fun (compelling argument, I know lmao).
-I recognize their differences; I just feel they're inferior follow-ups. The Gust Bellows was just used for puzzles and I didn't care for this game's version of digging.
-I remember that trailer but I was more invested in other portions of the trailer (cats <3), so no I don't remember that part.

(While I'm excited to engage in a SS debate, I have a crapload of homework to finish off and I'd rather not the thread be cluttered with this lol. Plus I don't think we can really argue with "That was awesome" or "I didn't care for this". Can we call it a draw?)

I started to avoid posting in the gaming forums outside of a handful of community threads specifically to avoid lame arguments like those about the Zelda series

sigh... /noescape

I feel legitimate guilt about this, lol.

Skyward Sword makes me do things, though. Not any of them are good things. :(

Silent Realms could scare the shit out of m at times.

SS as a whole could be described as such: some of the highest highs and best innovations in the series, but also some of the lowest lows

I mostly agree with that (except I'd give lowest lows to DS games). Some of the stuff in skyward wad epic and gave me the first true adventure feeling in a game since OOT and parts of WW. Then other stuff was awful like Fi and the first five hours. It was alright the first time since it created an interesting story and made you care about Zelda but subsequent play throughs sucked

The Silent Realm tests are literally the only things that are more enjoyable the second playthrough. SS has by far the worst replayability in the series.
-You know that the sky has nothing in it unless the chests are unlocked, so their is little incentive to explore it again.
-You already replayed the same three areas over and over again in the first playthrough, so by the second playthrough you have pretty much memorized their layouts.
-The motion controls aren't as enjoyable once the novelty has worn off.
-The text boxes are much more noticeably long the second time around.

Glad to see all the Silent Realm supporters :')
Making it into a tense situation where you have to be careful but also quick at getting about was a great change from TP and "kill X bugs in Y location"
