Grabbing M&L and Advance Wars right now! Hyyype

Just played fusion on my SP so will hold out on that one a while

Edit: Mario & Luigi looks great! Music is real good as well

Huh, I thought I heard that M2 also made the NES/SNES Wii U VC emulators? I guess not.

If they also do the N64 emulator, I would love if they could include all the region versions, like they do with some of their Sega stuff. But it's Nintendo so it'll never happen.

I need Rusty's Real Deal Baseball impressions.

I haggled him down to $2 and bought the Bat and Switch game. It's pretty fun, it has 50 different challenges based on soft toss hitting practice. As you complete the challenges you get graded and fill a stamp book. I've finished about 8 of the challenges and have already unlocked a 10% off coupon for one of the other games.

It's just mini games, but it'll scratch the itch until RBI is out on PS3.

The most common thing people who've played Rusty's tell me is the minigames just "feel good". Like, they provide stimulating feedback.

I too am curious about Batman. I didn't know it was coming out on Wii U, and I've got a bunch of money on my account right now...is that game supposed to be any good?

I had a really good time with it on 3ds and managed to avoid any bugs. I've already double dipped on Wii U.

Playing the demo, I can see where they're coming from. The game tells you to turn the sound up in order to further get that feeling, as it's a great sound hearing the cracking of the bat getting +3 compared to +2 or +1 points.

There's an OT up & it seems so far, you can haggle the minigames down to about $2 compared to $4. So about $20-ish for all 10 minigames.

That Dr. Mario/Luigi deal just screws early adopters like me. :(

Exactly how I feel. It's not like Dr. Luigi is even that old, and I'd like to have Dr. Mario because there's a few minor things about the original that have just never made it into subsequent iterations (plus save states,) but not for $5 unless it's on 3DS.

LOL I completely forgot about the GBA's shitty, shitty sound.

And if you're playing with the Gamepad, you get this annoying little shit on the bottom left corner!

When anyone else does it, it's a deal or sale. When Nintendo does it, it's screwing early buyers.

Gonna cross-post from the Rusty's Real Deal Baseball OT & mention that the lowest combined total you can buy all 10 minigames is $16. You can see more info here. Haggling is rather simple, as you gain items based on the story and what chapter you're on (which depends on how many minigames you own), so the process is basically "Donut, talk, specific chapter-related item, maybe talk again, cheapest price available".

Since I don't want to pay $8 for a GBA game, I should be more willing to pay more than $8 for a GBA game which could have dirty contacts and a dead save battery?

$8 for GBA games on VC isn't a bad deal when you look at what GBA cartridges are being sold for.

$8 for GBA games only seems like a bad deal when you compare it to downloading GBA games for free...illegally...via roms/emulators.

Nintendo doesn't set prices based on rarity. All GBA games will be $8 whether they suck and can be found for 25 cents at a garage sale or not.

Is there a list somewhere for which GBA carts used Flash memory/EEPROM for saves as opposed to batteries? Thought I read many of them (at least later titles) used flash.

I didn't know where else to ask this so here goes... do we know anything about whether the Ace Attorney 1-3 collection will be released outside of Japan? If not, does anyone care to speculate on the matter taking into account past examples or whatever?

Pretty much guaranteed considering the games are already translated and PW5 did really well on the 3DS. If the collection is not coming retail, it should be a downloadable at the very least.

Got a StreetPass from someone whose last played game was Rhythm Heaven, thought that Nintendo had secretly launched GBA VC for 3DS. Nearly went into shock.

Of course, I forgot that they renamed Rhythm Heaven Gold over here.

And apparently your demand price doesn't depend on rarity or quality either, since you've summarily decided that all GBA games are not worth $8 whether they're all time classics that go for $20+ on the open market or not.

Picked up Advance Wars as it was the only GBA game I hadn't played before. It's pretty fun but I only played for about 30 minutes, I'm hoping I can put more time into it soonish. I'll probably get Golden Sun when that comes out as well. Already own the other 5 but I am open to rebuying some of them in the future. I'm a big fan of the GBA emulator they're using, M2 did a great job.

That Dr. Mario and Dr. Luigi deal is pretty tempting, I may bite on it before the week is up

If Microsoft or Sony were screwing American early adopters out of a deal they gave Europe you bet there'd be plenty of bitching over it.

Donkey Kong had an update. Was this something that happened a while ago and I missed it? What was it for?

"Fixes an issue where, upon completing level 3-3 – Frantic Fields, the path to level 3-4 – Scorch 'n' Torch would not open up, preventing players from proceeding with the game"

Has anyone else been playing Airport Hero Hawaii? I haven't seen much discussion in the thread, and I've been searching pretty frequently. I'm a pretty big fan of the series, and have been having a pretty good time of it. This game is super fantastic. It has several layers of strategy, and isn't for everyone, but if you can get into its groove, you'll find a wonderful, engaging puzzle/simulation. It's a game in the long-running I Am An Air Traffic Controller! series, which started on PC in Japan and has had entries on GBA, DS, PSP, and now 3DS.

I really like the presentation in this version--it's more like the PC games with the 3D view of the planes and airport. The GBA and DS versions worked with abstractions, which were fine for gameplay purposes, but I prefer the simulation feel of this approach. The graphics could have used some FSAA, but given the framerate (the entire island and surrounding miles of ocean need to be held in memory, not to mention everything going on, paths, radio, tower, etc), I can forgive it. Views look better with 3D on, sometimes even heartrending or breathtaking when a plane finally lands during a tight and troubled stormy schedule. You have full camera control as well as a degree of zoom in/out. The airport looks different at different times of day, and sometimes it's really beautiful in its simplicity and utility. The music is nice, and unlike stated above, not only can you turn the music off, but you can adjust the volumes of music, SFX, and radio dialogue. The large variety of planes and their differing airport needs are well-rendered and appreciated. Plenty of low-resolution textures in the environments (even in the high-res promo bullshot art, LOL!), but it doesn't distract from the utilitarian purpose.

The gameplay is going to be where some people have a hard time. As the title implies, you are an air traffic controller. You actually handle Arrival, Tower, Ground, Delivery, and Departure radios. Each can only communicate with one plane at a time, so you have to wait for one transmission cycle to finish before giving another plane an order or clearance on the same channel. As such, you'll need to synthesize the situation and prioritize accordingly. Easy missions don't require a lot of sacrifice and consideration to win or even S-rank, but once you get to Normal and Hard, expect to be making hard decisions and failing often. It can seem like a perfect run, you're surviving in bad weather, with lots of arrivals trying to come at the same time and departures needing their routes and runways as well, and you're just fielding everything along like a pro. However, you'd forgotten that you'd assigned two planes takeoff and landing very near one another, and by the time you realizing they're going to collide in midair, it's too late. Decisions made minutes ago can tank you, and you need to learn why you failed and how to circumvent it to succeed. The feeling of success is incredibly satisfying, and getting S-ranks in later missions takes some ingenuity and patience.

The controls work fine--you can use the stylus to select planes and give orders, but I prefer using the buttons, as you'll also be changing cameras and checking your radar often. There are some good extras included--there are four Extend missions you can unlock, as well as Camera Mode, which gives you an incredible amount of replay value. You take a picture, it uses the data as a seed to generate a mission, including details like time of day, duration, score goal, and arrival/departure schedule/content/etc. You can save the stages you like (up to 18, I believe) to keep your score, or want to challenge again in an attempt to beat your previous score. Personally, I like to S-Rank all the things.

Compared to previous games in the series, Airport Hero Hawaii has only one airport instead of several, though it carries a similar number of missions. However, the Camera Mode, which effectively gives you an infinite number of unique missions at the airport, extends the life of this airport greatly and gives you far more opportunities for experiencing unique situations and strategies than the GBA and DS versions. I should also mention that at $20, this game is a steal. It retails for $50 in Japan. Kind of weirded out that no one's reviewing it, it's a great game in a long-running hardcore series. Hope this helps anyone on the fence!

I'd recommend Bonsai Barber as a freebie. It's a good 'gift I wouldn't buy myself' game.

Lots of character and very charming. One of those games that just makes me smile

those GBA games should be 4.99 :/
bleh or get 3 for 15 or something but oh well

so Rusty is worth spending?

I'll probably get Dr Mario/Luigi now

Are they going with a fixed price for all GBA games like Wii VC games? Because that's weird after the flexible pricing for Game Boy games.
