I'm no expert, but since STR scaling is so much better, why would you favor DEX in a quality build?

Well it used to be that you only need to put 27 points in STR to get the maximum 40/40 scaling, since the STR increase for 2 handing a weapon in DS1 applied to both the weapon requirements and the scaling value, but I remember someone in here saying it didn't work that way in this game, so 40/40 STR/DEX would probably be a true quality build now.

Those god damn
Ruin Sentinels
are driving me nuts. They must have killed me like 20 times at least. I've used like 5 effigies trying to summon to already.

ugh.

okay, I'm officially at my wits end here. Please someone give me some advice. I can't deal with this many fucking hard enemies. 1? Fine, but 8 not possible. I don't get how nobody is having any issues with this area...you think an area with a shitton of super strong fast enemies would make people struggle. Apparently not.

Is it possible to pull 1 at a time from range?

Well the key is to drawn them out one at the time. Also, the mace guys have infinite stamina so engage them with long range. Do you have a bow or any magic?

No, it's the Drake Keepers and the guardian statues. The drake keepers are never alone and never stop attacking, and the statues are super fast, high HP and always manage to parry me. Even 1 at a time, every enemy here is like super tough. The giant sword drake keepers hitme through my shield, and have good tracking. The only ones that are easy to kill are the shields. But thats the problem, you go up that giant ass stairs andyou have 2 keepers, 2 statues, 2 more keepers, and 2 more statue enemies and a dark spirit NPC.

Man, that's what I'm not understanding about this game. For the last one tons of people have issues with bosses, or levels, but, apparently nobodys got any issue with these bosses or levels because everyones steam rolling through them. Thats whats frustrating makes me feel like I'm doing it wrong. I ask anywhere else and I get "git gud" replies.

Everyones always going on about how the Shrine of Amana is so difficult, but, apparently everywhere else is super easy )=. Shrine wasn't even hard, those magic users were glass cannons.

Can someone help me in Dragon Shrine? These fucking enemies are slaughtering me. The dragon statues are like impossible to kill. They stunlock me to death. Why teh fuck is nobody having any issues at all in this area? Super strong enemies everywhere.
The enemies in that level are bullshit. They seem to have a hell of a lot of HP and attack power compared to anything else in the game. Try and draw them out with a bow if you have one. I was a strictly melee character but put some points into attunement and used pyromancy on the big knights to kill them, and just used my Zweihander +10 on the smaller ones with the stupidly fast attacks and high health.

The boss of that area is by far one of the cheapest in the series too. It's absolutely awful.

What kind of build are you rolling?

Nah dude, Dragon Shrine is like the king of pain in the ass areas in that game IMO. Makes Shrine of Amana look like Disneyland.

Be extremely careful when engaging Drakekeepers as they can basically end you in one combo. Use ranged options if available, always fight them one at a time. Hit and run always, don't rely on them stopping their combos or running out of stamina. Leash them (meaning, get them to move back to their initial positions by moving far enough away from the area) when you can.

The human-sized enemies can be fought normally as they do have finite combos, but don't rely on stunlocks. Hit them when they finish a combo, back off and wait for your opportunity again. Patience is everything in this area. As I don't play with a shield I physically avoid the hits by stepping back far enough or rolling away if I mess up. If your roll isn't great, space yourself to be able to simply backstep out of range.

After losing patience I eventually just got through that entire area by sprinting. It can be done.

It's straight up the most difficult area in the game. If you don't have any sort of substantial ranged damage, you are going to be in for a hell of a fight. I'd even go so far to say that the Hammer Drakekeeper's are the most difficult enemies in the game, and more difficult than 90% of the bosses.

^Did you kill him? In any case, yes. But you won't get the trophy if you killed him without her.

Had a funny experience tonight. I was in I
ron Keep
doing some item mop-up and was getting that item near the first bonfire that's a ways away past a few lava platforms. I'd just gotten the item and was going to homeward bone back to the bonfire when I got invaded. So I just ducked behind the pillar on the platform and watched the invader run around on the bridge for a few minutes trying to find me before giving up.

It was funny.

It's your job to find us Mr. Invader, not ours to run into you hiding behind six mobs with a Soulmass at the ready. XD

The Mace Drakekeepers are straight up nearly broken lol. Those bastards have infinite stamina and do not give any room for a safe counter. I think there might have been a slight error with them.

Speaking of invaders. I had one guy try to constantly lure me away into a trap, but since the Gunbound days of games lagging/freezing for more than 20 minutes, I have the patience of a saint lol. Just waited until he got bored and ran back to me and then I killed him lol.

Praise the fucking sun! I finally finished the game tonight. Can't imagine people playing this beast on even harder difficulties.

Good luck to you all, we'll meet again when the PS4/Xbone versions launch.

I found it significantly easier on NG+

Sure, you'll meet a few Phantoms here and there, but that's about it.

You have to keep on. Go for that NG+, sir~!

So can anyone please tell me if the
Giant
Souls play into effect in NG+ for
Vendrick?

They do. That's one of the reasons
I found Vendrick easier in NG+. In NG I fought him prior to killing the Ancient Dragon and only had 4 souls. In NG+ I had 5 already and his defense was even more lowered. I think it caps at 5 though.

Anyone else find the
Pursuer boss fight
arena very beautiful? I wish there were more like it. Also, where is our snow environments?!

My dream for the next Souls games (or area DLC) is a snow area where your equip weight matters, and the heavier you are the more you sink into the snow drifts and the harder it is to move quickly/dodge. Then that gives From the option to add miracles/sorceries that make you weightless for a certain amount of time.

I think a really cool area would be a trek up a mountain during a light snowfall, and you can see some sort of castle/structure built into the mountain further up and you have to make your way through snow-covered mountain passes and icy caverns, and the boss is some sort of Yeti-like furred creature that harasses you as you move up the mountain, crawling around on ledges and in and out of holes in the wall until the final confrontation before the castle.

EDIT:

Don't think I don't see your username. Like I'd expect a fair fight from a guy named Yurt.

anyone had this weird bug where
dragon
aerie was flashing white and black. As if it failed to map the texture..

The same thing happened to me in
Harvest Valley
. A lot of the textures on the
windmill
were flashing black and white, like a strobe light. It happened once and then never again, so I thought that it had something to do with me playing the digital version and some textures just not being loaded in correctly from the harddrive.

edit: here you go, looks kind of funky in motion ;-)

The giant mace wielders at the Dragon Shrine are straight up the most bullshit enemies in the series. INFINITE STAMINA

I've noticed that pretty much every heavy weapon wielder acts completely differently than player characters that use similar weapons. The hammer guys in E
arthen Peak
have really quick recovery time (and the fact that their strikes have a small AoE on top of that just make them unfair).

They do ;)

And I had x8 at that point. Though I'm sure it caps at x5?

I would be down for that. Snow environments are always a huge favorite of mine. One of the reasons I fell in love with Skyrim.

Yes, I think it's a glitch. They are very unfair.

I had an experience in
Lost Bastille
where an invader came in. I didn't hide, but I didn't run around either (I was expecting him to be waiting near enemies). So I just stood at the top of the stairs near
McDuffs
and kept panning the camera to see which way the invader would come from. After a few minutes I saw this red phantom jump from a platform, roll right off the edge and die. Gave me a good laugh.

I honestly didn't have any problems at the Dragon Shrine. I'm not bragging, I'm fucking terrible at the game. Don't ever scrap with the dudes with the big hammers, they never let up. Just use poison arrows and let them leash. Gavlan has an unlimited supply. As for the others, just fight them one at a time, keep one close using cheap wood arrows, the other guy will leash and go back. As for the little guys, that could be an issue depending on your equipment. I was using a great sword so I could keep them stun locked. Your mileage may vary.

First time I went through Dragon Aerie/Dragon Shrine, I "beat" both these areas in one run like a boss. Probably my most skilled moment in the game. This whole area looks great too.

heh, mine was the entire ground area

Those are the weapons that interest me - looking to power stance katanas and whatnot.

My first character was a quality build. Started with warrior, stats at SL150:
VGR 50
END 20
VIT 20
ATT 13
STR 35
DEX 40
ADP 15
INT 5
FAI 5

Dex was an early focus. Put Str at 25 early on for the weapons which required 50 Str.
End and Vit to hit 20 early. Adp to hit 15 early too. Vgr can come later.
With Str 35 you can power stance a lot of weapons.
The Att is for 2 slots so you can still do some pyromancy.

From SL150 onwards just do whatever you want. I increased End and Vit to 30. You can go full havels with weapon and a shield and still keep below 70%. I also brought Str to 50 so I could 1 hand more weapons (as well as power stance) and Adp to 20. That makes SL200
