Dark Souls II |OT2| Prepare to Vengarl

Was watching my brother play Diablo 3 on hardcore mode, made me think what if Dark Souls had a hardcore one life-pemanent death mode. Would be glorious. The sense of urgency and armpit sweat would be tenfold.
There's a reward for beating the game without dying, so it kinda has that.

No mans warf is kicking my ass in ng+ jeeeezus. The ambush
before the boss door absolutely wrecked me.
it's also rare to find summoning signs there as well and wherever i do get one, i either get a summoning fail or the player decides to leave my game. Am i that bad? Jeeeezus

Zero. I've only killed him the times needed.

Man he is such a joke boss..
You can also farm the memory for infinite Twinkling Titanite and Divine Blessings..

All you need to do is..
Get on the ledge to the left of him and walk side to side near the back right in front of the fire.. Cast at each end after walking side by side to dodge his vertical swing or time roll dodge the horizontal when need be.. You can also hang behind his left leg walking clockwise(similar to Vendrick) and kill him that way with melee.. But the first strat is SO EASY!!

I'm finding the level itself to be the easiest one so far in my NG+ run but the boss...I died to it once and gave up for the night. I just don't know how I'm going to deal with that shit without summoned help. I'd summon someone in a heartbeat if anyone put their signs down there.

I killed him first try. I know he's a cake boss, I just didn't feel the need to farm him.

Tonight I got the "player has returned to their world" a bunch of times when doing pvp, usually right before they die. They dont appear to be using items as their character simply stops taking damage just before the message pops up. Are they pulling their Internet or something else, its fucking annoying.

I had an invader jump into the lava at Ironkeep when he saw me using Dual Avelyns.. LOL!!!

Not 100% sure, but I don't think you can put your sign down in the ship itself. You'd have to look outside for signs.
I found a buddy on my ng+ run. Now that I know it's so barren there, I may put my sign down there a few times.

So I just killed Duke's
Dear Freja, what did I pick up in the arena? I think it said Greater soul or something, but can't see it in my inventory?

Thanks

Any tips for pure melee / str (no ranged attacks except throwing knife, lol) for Royal Rat Authority? I'm getting so wrecked. I have a mace+9, gyrm axe+8, bastard sword+4, large club+4. The hitbox on those things are crappy for the small rats. I can sometimes kill 2 or 3 and then I get toxic and die. The poisonbite ring and stacking poison resist gear doesn't even help. -_-

Also, here is my new STR
Looks like how I'd imagine Barristan Selmy. Very cool.

Okay, I'm gonna relent: anyone have a spare Mad Warrior chest piece they could donate to a poor soul? It's been 4 days and that's his last piece to drop...

Xbox, Lvl 80+, SM around 700-800k.

So... bastard sword any good?

I suppose it's possible. I was using the black knight halberd's one handed R2 attacks.
I walk in from the center and once the rats are onto me I walk backwards. Once all four are within range I swing. If they aren't all dead within 2 swings the boss is onto me and then I can't win.

Trying to get the Shadow Set is the most difficult thing ever. I'm just going to first and foremost, clear out all respawning enemies at the Warf.

Hug the right wall and the rats will charge at you. Take them down using a weapon with good horizontal sweep (bastard sword should do fine here). Meanwhile, the boss himself has landed in the middle of the room, a good way away from you. This gives you time to heal up if needed.

Haha, the Belfry is insanely stupid, I'm loving it. It's interesting to finally see how my INT build performs in PvP. As expected, I can't afford to get hit but Soul Spear and Flame Swathe 1-2 shot most people. When they hit, which is the biggest issue here.

The annoying thing about Bell Keeper progression is that killing invading grey phantoms doesn't count toward it, and the majority of my PVP fights involve getting invaded by grey phantoms.

My highest rated message is " Women ahead therefore try Rear"
Mine is the same except I put Charmer. It felt so adolescent doing that TBH.

The actually informative messages don't get rated for shit (I assume there dozens of similar messages).

MOTHERFUCKER DIEEEEEEEEE

Ah, that Dark Souls feeling haha. Thanks for the advice but I ended up just trying again to fell them in one bastard sword swoop. It worked then I switched to my gyrm axe and turtled with greatshield (the big slam hurts too much if I miss the dodge, I prefer the shield drain stun since he doesn't immediately attack after), one hit at the time. Luckily his defense is low so it's not a long fight after that, but still maddening.

Using Twinkling Titanite to max out my Old Whip was probably one of the best decisions I've ever made, just sayin'.

The Allone set(captain head and chest) is probably the best medium/heavy armor in the game fully upgraded.. It's like Black Knight Armor in DK 1..

You can turtle with a shield as pathetic as an un-upgraded large leather shield, I always block the big slam move.

I swear I've been trying that, but yea great advice. You got me actually trying to keep that bastard in the center against the pole.

Manged to get a single piece, let myself die so I can do it all over again. UGh.

Using bonfire ascetics in Majula can do no harm other than buffing
Licia th Miracle Lady
.. right? I want to float like a buttafly :}

Same here (except Avelyns).
Tried to shoot him with arrows, but fell to lava. =((
I did that when someone was throwing corrosive urns at me. Fuck this I don't want to pay to repair my gear! Even though I screwed up and broke my sword because I failed to rest at a Bonfire before initiating another duel.

More skeletons in the closet basement
although no, it really isn't Death Piggies 2: Electric Boogaloo like I suspected. By that point you have such awesome gear you can just trash them even with NG+ buffs.

What exactly does the Covenant of Champions covenant do?
Tryiging to do ng+ without summoning anyone for help, so it just disables online for me?

There's the goblin's before the Shaded Woods entrance and the Skeleton in the Mansion basement and of course, don't forget the little hogs
.

Cheers! Thank you two :)

On topic: Would it be more prudent (easier would be the more appropriate word here) to use bonfire ascetics to finish all of the NPC questlines in the first playthrough, or complete them in NG+? I missed... well all of of them. Lol.

Probably best to do it in NG, but you're still discovering the game and may make it too much of a pain in your first NG+ to buff them up immediately. I'd definitely get them done in NG+ though before they get too out of hand, but some bosses are easy enough to make that relatively trivial (the only time I had Benhart die in
the congregation boss fight was because he got wrecked by Freja prior, and thus was practically on life support going in anyway. And that was a quick NG++ run with his quest already completed so whatever.

Interesting data about poise breakpoints: http://bit.ly/1hHNpuW

One- handed swing from a dagger breaks through 36 poise. That feels pretty jarring coming from DS1, where the dagger had a whopping breakpoint of 6.

Lovely. If they were going to do it this way, I'd have preferred if they got rid of poise altogether. Now you just have a bunch of people running around in Havel's.

any reason not to sell all the weapons and armor i'm not using to Gavlan

because he wheels. he deals.

He resides in inconvenient places in
No mans warf
and
Harvest Valley
, making it a minor hassle to get to him. His final destination is easy to get to, though. The soul rewards for selling is not great. Even if you are not going to use the other weapons and armors, it is nice to have them as collectibles and to be able to try out their movesets.

So, you either need a shitload of poise or don't bother with it at all.
Even a shitload won't probably be enough, as 35 poise damage (ie. every great sword) seems to be enough to break the highest amount of poise with ease.

So yeah, stacking poise is quite worthless atm.
