I'm not used to it :(
plus I've never been a fan of pokemon

Wait hold on a second, I just checked the Smashboards thread on this and someone said that Kamiya retweeted the direct information.

SOMEONE GET PROOF PLS

If this comes this Summer, I will be ecstatic and it could jump start the Wii U.

Only question is what the big fall title would be. X is kind of niche relative to current gaming trends (grimdark shooters), unless they have another unannounced game for the Holidays.

Either way, I'm hyped.

Super Smash Bros Brawl Development Schedules

  • After E3 2005 (May 2005), Iwata asked Sakurai to be Director of Super Smash Bros. Brawl
  • Character Roster and Design document were finalized on July 7, 2005.
  • Development of Super Smash Bros. Brawl began somewhen during Oct 2005

  • Super Smash Bros Dojo ended on April 14, 2008

Informations:

  • Nintendo opened a new office in Tokyo just for Super Smash Bros Brawl production.
  • New office aka Sora, LTD was established in order to Sakurai to be freelancer. Sora, LTD only have two members, which is Sakurai and his assistant.
  • Nintendo and Sakurai enlisted several companies to helping them out with Super Smash Bros Brawl Development. Those following companies and members that joined the team to assist Sakurai; Game Arts, Monolith Soft, Paon, and several smash veteran staff members.
  • Game Arts is the main team for preliminary development stage
  • Hal Laboratory gave the teams all accesses to original materials and tools from the development of Super Smash Bros Melee.
  • About 100 members worked on the project full time.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS Development Schedule

  • Iwata announced Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS during Nintendo E3 2011 conference in order to attract new team members

Informations

  • Sakurai expressed his interests that he intended to bring back old Nintendo characters for the games.

My takes on Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS Schedule
  • Sakurai probably started on brainstorming phase in Jan 2012, and finalized his roster plan and design document in March 2012.
  • Namco Bandai and Sora, LTD probably started working on the games somwhen during April or May 2012, which would explain that they have completed prototype in their hands during June 2012.

angry Luma is still here to give everyone in this thread dehumanizing stares, I haven't made any avatar bets :P

points to those who get the reference

Yeah... about that. I made a couple of ludicrous bets on your behalf, something to the effect of 6 newcomers and 7 veteran reveals. Hope you don't mind ;)

Just taking the time to say that I was clearly wrong in my earlier prediction about very few reveals until E3.

Honestly, it's a good thing to be wrong about.

This could be similar to the previous developer direct they had. Too hyped anyways. Deflating the hype and I'm honestly expecting this to be for mostly 2 things:

1) Using this to announce a worldwide simultaneous release like Pokemon did. Playable cast would be officially hidden for everyone unless the game got sold early or a leak happened.
2) Showcasing gameplay that can't be done via pic of the day. A lot of the pictures we have we haven't seen in motion, and there's a ton of characters we haven't seen either. Going over how characters have changed like done with Bowser and how some of the items and stages work.

Expect one new character and one veteran. Unless it launches somehow in June/July, this won't be a blowout of information- but a sneak peek at how the game is coming along. I can also see them announcing a special edition with both the 3DS/Wii U game bundled together with some neat extras.

I was really hoping Nintendo's next direct would focus on introducing new games that we haven't been getting endless updates on for the last year, but I guess they are saving that for E3. But the Smash Direct is overkill in my opinion.

I'm expecting a release date that means nothing because I'm sure the game will be delayed until Holiday 2015 and a trailer introducing a new character. What I'm hoping for is the reveal of a robust online multiplayer and leaderboard mode and a far more fleshed-out stage builder. Smash 4 is an extremely safe sequel, but those two improvements could really make it stand on its own in a way I feel Brawl completely failed.

We know nothing about Smash 4 outside of its battle engine and trophies still being a thing though, in spite of all these daily pictures. There's still a lot that could be done with game modes and such.

this is going to be a long weekend
I'm ok with that :D

I'm just glad this wasn't announced sooner. The more days I have to read about this at work, the longer till it gets here. Time off flies by, since I'm playing games n' stuff.

C'mon direct, announce a 5 player mode where the player with the GamePad can screw with people on the stage and change things around

fuuuuck I start my new schedule next week and don't finish work till 7:30 damnit!

On another note, a lot of people want and/or are expecting pacman

A serious question: would the art/model style of pacman seem out of place in smash bros to any one? I'm not saying he shouldn't be in but i'm just genuinely curious. For some reason a yellow ball with arms and legs seems like it'd be strange to see (but I guess if kirby feels like he fits then anything could really fit) I suppose I'd have to see actual gameplay to really see how he would possible fit in

That would be am amazing mode. Especially if they can spawn items.
Blue shells for everyone!
And that would be a great item for Smash. It'd be especially nice to see iIn free for all or teams. It would even validate the (normally completely silly) way that time matches exist and don't show your score always. "Should I pick this up? Am I winning, and it's just going to hit me?"

We really don't know how he'd look. I'd expect something between the art for the arcade game and the version from Pac Man world, but I don't know.

Smash Bros. has been able to realize Ice Climbers, Pit, Mr. Game and Watch, and others in impressively believable ways, and represented characters as serious as Solid Snake without making them feel out of place. It could work.

I'm really excited what they going to show us on Monday. I wonder if they going to share the details of the single and adventure mode on Monday.

Wow I did not expect to see this happen. Does this mean the game could be earlier than expected?

it could seem that way. but like others have said, pokemon direct happened in jan, and was released 9 months later in oct.

but then again that was a reveal of a game, this direct is more just updates on gameplay and possibly characters. so who knows. im hoping it does come out earlier than expected. im thinking late summer release

OMG... just woke up to see an adorable pic of Isabelle and then I came here. Always had a feeling that the game could come out in the Summer by July for some reason.

On the Rainbow Road Hype Train!

Yeah what's interesting is that MK8 is next month and Smash got a Direct before it. Man, what a loooonnng weekend this is going to be.

I agree, it would be a great addition. Do it Sakurai. Final Destination, blue shells only.
